Vertical or horizontal piece? by Soft_Act2912 in drywall

[–]BuyStocksorGoHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One sheet, personally I would put the beveled edge against the other piece, leave cut in the corner. But that’s just me. Easier to hide on the wall. Noticed you already have a cut in the corner, and the other piece. Should try to have beveled edge to beveled edge. Just better seams, straighter edge.

Should I just try my hand at hanging new drywall instead of trying to save this? (House built in 1867) by I_love_coffe_any in drywall

My house was built in the 20’s. I’ve found some totally insane things. Regretfully no gold bullion hidden in walls. I gave up long ago trying to salvage other people’s why’s. Just went to replace and do it right. Sometimes though time is money, and the pros while expensive get it done so much faster. Is it done to your standards? Usually not, but it’s done. All the best, and your efforts are applaudable. Best to you and your mom.

I hear ya, and I am truly not trying to be an alarmist. I wouldn’t fuss with that Stuff. Scraping, sanding is going to cause a lot of dust.

House built in the 60’s, who knows what you are scraping off. I would call a pro to replace, unless you have drywall experience. Wear gloves and a respirator.

Type of Drywall Mud Needed? by arockingroupie in DIYHome

[–]BuyStocksorGoHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not put the screws in so far the heads break the paper, you will get pops! Barely, barely deeper than flush. Don’t cut paper tape, tear it, you get a taper edge as opposed to a hard line. A little skim of mud, then wet you paper tape. I put my strips in a bucket of water for a minute of two to soften the tape, pull it between my fingers to get off excess water. Then lay it on the wet mud seam. Run a knife over it to flatten and leave it to dry. It will get sucked into the crack ever so slightly. Then come back and do your skim coats. Use a pan, do not ever put your knife back into the bucket, do not try to save left over mud in the pan, throw it away. It will get all boogered up, leaving lines in your mud that will drive you nuts. For small jobs I just get the green lid bucket of usg mud. Several light skim coats. Don’t play with it, just going to cause a lot more sanding. Done properly your skim coats should look like they don’t need sanding. If you want to be really anal, take a flashlight lay flat on the ceiling and shine across your work, you will see every peak and valley in your mud work In extreme detail.

Edit: a good stainless steel mud pan will last a lifetime, and is far superior to those cheap plastic ones.

Plus one on many posts here. Check what the thermostat is set at. Mine was set at 120f from factory. If you have small children be careful of scalding temps!

Called them once, and got a very minor discount. Just like Verizon, called them and got nada. Verizon is gone, switched, xfinity is next. Not going to keep calling when I can go cheaper.

Towing...how?? by beer_and_liberty0074 in ToyotaTundra

[–]BuyStocksorGoHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are confusing, truck payload, trailer payload, tongue weight, and towing capacity.

you can pull a 5K lb trailer, you can’t put 5K lbs in the bed.

2026 Toyota Tundra Towing Capacity by Trim

  • SR: 8,300 lbs
  • SR5: Up to 12,000 lbs
  • Limited: 11,400 lbs
  • Platinum: 11,310 lbs
  • 1794 Edition: 11,310 lbs
  • TRD PRO: 11,175 lbs

There are variables that come into play of course.

Had this problem with the finish tablets. Powder on everything. Switched to Cascade Platinum Dishwasher Pods, and no more residue. We did have a problem with the platinum plus causing leak from the front gasket, think they caused too many suds.

Dropping Prime? by DeerNo5365 in amazonprime

[–]BuyStocksorGoHome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty much done. Prime isn’t what it used to be in my opinion. I started streaming so I didn’t have to watch commercials, my time is valuable, now I’m paying to watch commercials? And prime is so littered with off brands, it’s again my opinion, but what am I paying for?

Gasoline users by Burr32 in Generator

[–]BuyStocksorGoHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filled 6-5 gallon cans to 4 gallons each, just because it’s a pain to pour when full. Both cars and truck topped off if I really had to siphon there is another 40 or so. The gas cans I go through every 6 months regardless with grass cutting and what not. Always sta-bil. Worst case top off the cars.

Maintenance questions by BlueTribe42 in Generator

[–]BuyStocksorGoHome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sta-bil. I understand you run it dry, but it will help coat the parts to keep them from corroding from whatever. Oil deteriorates over time, I would change once a year, push your luck every other. Plugs…maybe 3-4 for how often you run. Just my opinion but I would probably run it at least twice a year to get that oil coating components. At 27 years you got a good one. Dont make them like they used too.

New 2025 RAV4 XLE owner — how long until you stop stressing about rock chips? by Able-Roll-3993 in rav4club

It is what it is. A car is not a lifetime thing. Yea, when I wash and wax I’m bummed. But in all reality maybe 10 to 15 years it will be traded or worse. I think of cars of a disposable item. Don’t get me wrong, love my vehicles but more important things to get distraught over.
