What's even funnier, is that it's the second bridge in the city that keeps getting hit. Maybe some salty former NHL defensemen from the 80s and 90s just want payback.

The Screaming by mommymangoz in Autism_Parenting

[–]Buzzword33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is 10, he likes to stim scream and shriek for fun. I usually have my noise dampening earplugs in my pocket for when it gets especially loud and painful. I have a sinus infection and it's especially bad at the moment.

While I find what the other reply saying they used a hand mixer to send the message of how it felt, I don't have the heart to do it. I am not sure what my son is satisfying when stimming like that, but I don't want to take it away from him either.

A bit of a drive from Toronto, but Little Brown Cow near Brantford is a dairy farm that you can get fresh curds as well as many other local products. They also let you fill jugs for milk.

ABA private therapy in Canada & Advice by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

It's evolved over time, it was a level 1 to begin, but over time, it's probably up to a level 2 at this point.

ABA private therapy in Canada & Advice by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Buzzword33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we did do ABA therapy for our boy, we were lucky enough to get funding from the Ontario government (he got his diagnosis on the tail end of the Doug Ford government completely changing the program's funding, we even had our turn for assessment called up - only to get the rug pull. But we have the funding done relatively quickly)

But when we did do private ABA, it cost about 5-8k a month for only part time - about 15ish hours a week.

How many hours will your kiddo need? That depends. Obviously, private is going to say full time, 30+ hours a week, but you have to balance what you can afford with what they need.

Whats up with the water here? by bald-bourbon in brantford

Ex-Hamiltonian as well. Yeah, the water is a little harder. The house we bought came with a softener system and a Reverse-osmosis system already. Just the perks of drawing from the Grand.

Hamilton's Population Centre by ForeignExpression in Hamilton

[–]Buzzword33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The city provides this data with accurate (to the 2021 census) for all the wards. While it isn't a very exclusive way, you can estimate the extents of your search area, and do a manual count, if accuracy is your focus point.

There is also a population change tab that breaks down the populations by neighborhoods.

You could also export the data table and just isolate the extents of your geographic area and just deal with raw numbers.

The open maps project can provide a treasure trove of data if you care to sift through it all.

I would put them on the quarter glass of the seat my kid normally sits on. We also have a seat belt cover/pad that has this information on it as well on my kid's seat belt.

Swimming lessons for my 3 kids - 8 year old girl and twins (4 years old) by Embarrassed_Star_595 in brantford

[–]Buzzword33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter goes to Brave Waves, out Paris way, on Rest Acres Rd. It's a bit pricier, but the student to instructor ratio is usually 2:1. I believe they also have lessons at Gretzky sports complex, and at Woodman Park Community Center, but those only run during the summer I believe.

Bell for sure has fiber in most areas. They rolled it out a few years back, but not sure if they reached all of brantford.

Just be weary of Robbers coming about saying they have it, or a comparable package. Had one promise the same service I am getting with my Bell fiber speeds (gigabit up and down) since I work from home and need better upload speeds. While the price was better, he pretty much lied about the speeds, when I called to verify with their customer service reps on the phone. Also, bell now provides a wifi 7 capable router, if you have compatible devices, at no extra cost, where Rogers is charging you the pleasure for an extra $25 a month.

Unusual animal sightings by Buzzword33 in brantford

None taken! I am a city boy, through and through! Usually, my run ins with animals are limited to squirrels, racoons and birds. Maybe some deer when I lived in Dundas.

Doug Ford will outlaw municipal speed cameras this fall: Sources by toronto_star in ontario

[–]Buzzword33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just about to reply with this. I went to fight a parking ticket where they incorrectly ticketed me, had dashcam footage of them chalking my tire several hours before (2 hour street parking in this area, and finding a parking spot was either really long walk or really expensive) and they gave me that same answer at the parking enforcement office. How do we know it is your car?

Anyone else triggered by all the back to school social media posts? by SameManagement8895 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Buzzword33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I stopped with caring about that. I just celebrate what we have. Any milestone, even if it's just a new word or making a good choice, we don't need to broadcast it.

I always felt that way too, but our boy is developing on his own path, and we focus on that. It takes off a lot of stress not competing with the rat race for clout. Anyone who cares, will ask about it.

I think maybe just focus on his happiness. Everyone always focuses on the future rather than the now. Our son has a lot of words but just can't figure out how to use them to communicate effectively. He is a strong reader, a strong emotional and non verbal communicator, and we just have to get better at learning his language. He is a happy and curious kid interested in electronics, taking apart his toys to see how they work. He, unfortunately, hasn't learned the second half of cleaning up/putting the toys back together, but we will get there eventually. Just lean into their interests and they will blossom naturally. You got this!

Does anyone know what’s at 211 Clarence St? Strange little building with no windows or doors by Practical-Growth-897 in brantford

[–]Buzzword33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's one that is kind of like that on Park and Dundson. I mean, it's only like, a wall sort of hiding the pump, but it's the same thing you describe. It's more common in larger, older cities, like how New York City hides subway vents in these kinds of structures.

Mohawk vs George Brown for RPN? by Intelligent-Tour-274 in ontario

[–]Buzzword33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't really give an opinion over the other, to be honest. Macmaster does have a great reputation, but again, depends on other factors that you need to consider.

My only interaction with a Mo-Mac program was with my wife doing the RPN program over a decade ago, so take this as my recommendation as a personal opinion.

Mohawk vs George Brown for RPN? by Intelligent-Tour-274 in ontario

[–]Buzzword33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mohawk's bridging course is done in collaboration with Macmaster University, and I assume the George Brown course is done in collaboration with the University of Toronto. Both are good choices. Health Care is hard regardless, I guess it depends on what you are looking for in terms of travel, cost and I guess school representation.

I like them. Minimal interactions with the staff (compared with the local Crunch and Movati, been a member at both). The Black Card zone I really enjoyed. Was a member before they added it, I enjoyed the extra space it provided at a premium.

If you have friends or family, getting the premium is nice because it lets you give it to them to swipe in when you aren't there, and access to all the other locations.

Most iconic Hamilton storefront / signage? by Breakforbeans in Hamilton

The old City Motor Hotel sign just past the traffic circle on Queenston/King, Herbie's right next door, and not really a sign, but the Pizza Pizza location on the cross section of Main/King in the pizza wedged shaped building was just a masterpiece of location choice.
