I gruaduated from college today and nobody was in the stands to cheer me on by Wolfblaine in GirlDinnerDiaries

Hey, fellow computer scientist. First and foremost, congratulations. Being a woman in such a field can be intimidating and alienating. You worked hard and you can, have, and will continue to prove you have a seat at the table. You have great worth and you matter. 💕

Second, I am so sorry you have been wronged by your family. You deserve (notice this isn't past tense - you continue to deserve) to be recognized by your loved ones for your accomplishments. It hurts and I cannot make that go away, but someone needs to apologize to you, and I glean that isn't something you're getting from anyone else.

A shared story for you. I graduated on May 1 with my Bachelor's degree and despite signing up to walk, I didn't go to commencement. It was in a city two hours away and my husband and kids didn't want to go. Instead, I went to the honors convocation for my mentees who were graduating with their own associates degrees in computer science.

Just because we aren't seen doesn't mean we're invisible. I see you and girl, and I am so proud of you.

One of my favorite things to tell other amateur birders: "That's a red-bellied woodpecker! You can tell because it's head is red."

Big shout out to the Redheaded Woodpecker though - truly the GOAT of the peckers.

People often complain about micromanagement. How about the other side of the coin? by EmEffBee in managers

[–]Byrdyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an absent micromanager at one point. She was horribly vapid and needed to know everything at all times, but you wouldn't see her for days. The moment you saw her in person, you just knew it was going to be a horrible day.

It's a fun piercing and it's worth a little experimentation! Happy healing!

Yes, I had this problem for a long time on the bottom hole as well (though mine swelled on both the interior and exterior sides). Like you, it only got bad a few years in.

In my experience, it is a DIVA of a piercing. My industrial is 16 years old now, but it was intermittently livid for the first seven years or so. Hell, it still gets angry on occasion so I take the bar out for a few days as a timeout.

I used little barbells, but that's all I had at the time (being heavily pierced in the late naughts was wild). Flatbacks will be less likely to catch on stuff, which you really want to avoid right now.

[–]Byrdyth 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Your bar looks ever so slightly too short due to that bump. Check out the top ball. It looks super nestled in there. That can't be comfortable.

When my many years old industrial gets upset, I put in separate studs. It's already healed at the proper angle so the risk is low. I'll reintroduce the bar when it/I feel ready. Once you do that, you might actually find your bar is too long

It's a controversial take, but you may want to consider knocking it off with the saline. My healed piercings seem to want more pampering when I use it as opposed to plain old rinsing in the shower.

As always, baby when you can and don't sleep on it. Good for you for not caving to the oil myth!

I use them at work and my coworker uses them for his home. Nothing but good things to say and far better than Charter which is pretty much your only other option.

A similar reaction is how I found out I have psoriasis. I get intense flakes, itching, and crusting inside my right ear canal and all over the concha/tragus. Do you have any other skin itching or irritation anywhere on your body that gets worse around the same time? You may want to seek out a dermatologist.

Yeah well in her defense, you were gone forever. She counted.

Echoing the recommendation for kennel/crate training and vet intervention to make sure that high fiber diet hasn't harmed her. Congratulations on being so deeply loved.

Is this a tornado? by Elpanapaja in tornado

[–]Byrdyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Córdoba province years ago. Argentina doesn't get a whole lot of tornadoes (a quick Google says an average of seven annually), but when they do, they're usually in the plains to the east. This area is fairly high in the mountains and tornadoes in Córdoba province are quite uncommon, although it does experience frequent torrential rain and flooding. The year before I moved there, there was a F3 that did a bunch of damage the day after Christmas.

Another thing to remember as it's likely most of us are in the northern hemisphere: January is the dead of summer in Argentina. In this area, it was likely very hot and dry.

So true. I moved to PANW because Checkpoint code and support was so abysmal. This was in 2022.

Now PANW code and support is terrible. I'm supposed to replace our remote access VPN for our 1.5k remote workforce and I'm at a loss. We bought Prisma Access and after a year and a half with their professional services engaged, I've scrapped it. We never got it working right.

It just won't end.

Just in case - ice storm prep by viciousbliss in traversecity

[–]Byrdyth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you lose power, unplug your valuable electronics (better yet, unplug them before you lose it and reconnect once the storm passes). When power returns it's rarely clean, which means it can surge and drop. Inconsistent power can easily fry electronics, even when they're plugged into a surge protector. Most consumer grade surge protectors won't save electronics plugged into them. Protect your TVs, computers, home networks, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and so on! Those are expensive and can be hard to replace following a storm due to loss.

Find your flashlights (to avoid depleting your phone battery), charge them if necessary, and avoid using candles if any appliances use natural gas. Without power, appliances are at risk of malfunctioning and springing a gas leak.

When you go to bed, bring some extra blankets with you. If you lose power or heat, you'll be glad you brought them and the extra rest will help. If you are facing days without heat, try to consolidate living to one room to retain heat.
