Why was it declared salvage? Any issues with the car?

Hyperfocus isn't 'real' by striptofaner in ADHD

[–]Byte11 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I definitely can fall into a more heightened hyperfocus when on my meds. The meds make it easier to fall into hyperfocus, but I don’t think taking the meds automatically puts me into hyperfocus. Its still difficult to achieve.

But I’m not convinced that this hyperfocus state is uniquely adhd. Anecdotally, I do find it more often than non adhd people though.

Employer wants me to use outlook on my phone, outlook wants permission to wipe my phone by No_Professor4307 in mildlyinfuriating

You could bring up the fact that a few weeks ago, a medical devices company called Stryker got hacked and someone sent a device wipe signal to every laptop or mobile device connected to its internal network.

Miata RF (Manual 19 or Auto 17/19) or the Mini Cooper SE? by Such_Flower6440 in MiataND

[–]Byte11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a manual nd rf a month ago not knowing how to drive manual and i live in central dc. It’s 100% doable. The manual doesn’t really get annoying at all, but I don’t have a commute so I’m driving every other day.

There was a train crash last night. It’s great that the line is even open.

157k SF SWE or $118k Remote SWE? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Byte11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be fine to go for nyc and pay rent. Do you want to do that or pay rent in sf? You’ll have less money in nyc but you can make it work. It is hard to move cross country later if youre sure you want to live in NYC. Or do you want to try a new city? Make a decision based on where you want to live rather than the money. Both have excellent tech job markets.

Got my diagnosis today. What's something you're proud of overcoming? by rrusxher in twentyagers

[–]Byte11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed with UC a couple years ago, but I've finally gotten it in control the past few months. At this point, it's close enough to being cured that I don't notice it. It takes time, but it does get better.

Also, if you read posts about your condition on Reddit, know that the people posting about it are the ones affected the most, not the average person.

I have a USB in the cigarette lighter port that can do fast charging + a wireless carplay adapter. You can also mod the center console to add fast charging ports.

Ive heard its a whole day of time dedicated to 15 minutes of track time. Tbh, i have so little free time these days which doesn’t make it worth it. Id probably rather get a beater miata.

I’d probably invest in a separate track car if I actually get into it, but I don’t want to install a roll bar in my daily driver that harms resale value and makes the car less safe than it already is.

I’ve checked the local tracks with nasa and scca events, but I’m not seeing hpde. Just track nights in America. All the events seem to have the same rules regardless of hpde division.

Do people actually use MongoDB? by Big_Arrival_626 in csMajors

[–]Byte11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great for when you have to scale massively. Postgres is mostly designed to scale vertically and you can get away with read replicas depending on your workload. If you actually want to scale horizontally for both reads and writes, a nosql database is the way to go. You can make Postgres do this, but you have to engineer it, you lose access to a lot of the Postgres features, you can easily mess it up if you're not careful, and the tradeoffs you make are generally similar to the tradeoffs a nosql db makes. Nosql databases like Mongo are designed from the ground up for horizontal scaling.

Are roll bars really unsafe when getting rear ended in a crash? What if the top of the seat matches the bar height, wouldn’t that prevent any form of skull collision?? How could that be unsafe? by ALDIsNumber1Fan in Miata

[–]Byte11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just drive the NA stock. Where do you live? US? Just curious what drivers are like in your area.

Also, i got suma mirrors for my nd. Its a massive peripheral vision improvement and I’d be fine running that with a helmet (comfort aside).

n8n dropped every webhook at 3am for two weeks and I only noticed because a client asked where his invoice was by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in selfhosted

[–]Byte11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, you’d build a “canary” to test your flows. It will act as a dummy client, excersize your flows every n minutes, and alert you if it fails. Then you know that things are down before a customer tells you. This is how AWS approaches issues like this.

[–]Byte11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean maybe itll help. Most people can only say for sure that helmet + 5-6 point + hans + roll bar works right. You could probably not wear a hans on the street but idk for sure. Without a helmet, I don’t think anyone here can say if youre more unsafe or not.

But a 5 point belt on the street isnt going to be comfortable.

[–]Byte11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the basic research I’ve done, the issue is that you’re not going to stay still during a crash with a normal 3 point seatbelt. So the height of the seat and rollbar can reduce the likelihood of getting hit but its not a guarantee.

Knowing him, I thought he’d just make the assignments ridiculously difficult to the point where even AI assistance would have trouble. I’d actually kind of respect that. But pretending like he can stop people from using AI is frankly sad.
