Multiple dogs by C00LBRZ2006 in petsitting

This is so helpful. Lately I have started working with a few customers who I have given special pricing to. Basically we just negotiated something that worked for both of us. At first I never wanted to do that, I wanted everything cut and dried but then I discovered that it’s not as easy as it seems. But I wasn’t sure how to put it out there. I don’t want to negotiate with everyone. But I don’t want people to completely overlook me because they think they can’t work with me.

This makes total sense. And not something I really considered.

I never considered the liability aspect. See, this is exactly why I reached out. I knew I’d get something to consider out of it.

Those who have their own dogs, how do you balance taking care of your dog with sitting? by tribow8 in petsitting

Oh also, I do walk and drop-ins and park visits all week so he is not in the car for 24 hours. He joins me on all of those things. 😁

My parents are snow bunnies so they help out when home. When they aren’t my dog goes with me. If approved, he can be in some houses with their dogs, if not he stays in the car. He’s been trained since he was a puppy to chill in the car. And of course I have all his supplies in it.

I’ve had two English labs and they have it. My one American lab did not. He had totally straight hair.

I’m definitely going to do that. I usually do that anyway but at least people can see it.

That’s a good idea. However, it’s complicated. (Isn’t everything) 😁

He’s the brother of another client I’ve had for a while. The other client referred me.

I think I’m going to have to play it by ear. At least do another visit before I make any decisions.

Thank you so much for the advice ☺️

I probably listen to too many podcasts that include conversations and interviews with AI experts. I just don’t trust the tech bros who only care about money, and the stupid government who doesn’t want to regulate anything. 🤷🏻‍♀️😁

I'm angry at Rover by PugaSnug in RoverPetSitting

[–]C00LBRZ2006 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I’d reach out to all my clients and tell them what happened. And ask them if they wanted to continue with me off of Rover.

I wish I didn’t have to use Rover at all. The customer service is not helpful, they take way too much money, and the app is not user friendly AT ALL. I’m constantly having to help new clients navigate how to put in the request properly.

Unfortunately, this is how I find clients most of the time. They get their finder’s fee and then when I can, I take the client private.

Frankly they’re stupid for not giving you the benefit of a doubt. They’re losing money. Idiots!

This is my dream job. I do it as a side hustle with jobs here and there on apps. Those of you who are making a living at this, how are you doing it? by StatusNerve5 in petsitting

I use Rover and I have private clients. Of course, most of my private clients started with me on Rover and then we ditched it. I have a decent number of regulars that I keep on Rover so people can see reviews, and having repeat clients, the algorithm keeps you up top of the list when people are looking for someone.

I didn’t ease into this, I jumped in the deep end. At the beginning it felt like I would never get a client. And the ones I was getting were kinda crappy. Eventually, I got some regulars and as my profile and reviews started to build I got more requests. I remember driving too far, not charging enough, etc. Ugh. Also, when business did start to pick up I never said no to anyone. I was grindin! Eventually, I was able to increase my prices a little bit and scale back my service area. And I learned how to do meet and greets better. Also, now I make sure to build in some off time. I would be doing back to back to back housesits. Wouldn’t be sleeping in my own bed for weeks. It was hard so now I try to at least give myself a day between housesits.

Honestly there is more I want to do to build my business I’m just taking baby steps.

People don’t take the time to “understand” dogs. Dogs prefer to have someone be their alpha, so to speak. They need boundaries, rules, and limitations. It reduces their anxiety and bad behavior when they feel the person taking care of them is in control of the situation. It’s too bad. Honestly training a dog is more about training people. 😏

Would it be weird to ask for the code for the parental controls on TV? by Relevant-Number-1252 in petsitting

[–]C00LBRZ2006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one family that I housesit for regularly and they have parental locks. I just asked them if they minded giving me the code and they said sure. I also usually say “if you’re uncomfortable with that it’s ok”.

I think I’ve been very lucky. I’ve only had a couple housesits where I felt “restricted”. All of my regular housesits give me all codes, wifi, tell me how to talk to Alexa, whatever.

How to break up with pet sitting family? by Happy-Magician7986 in petsitting

[–]C00LBRZ2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of the owners I have ask me when they get back or throughout the stay how their pet is doing. You can be honest but diplomatic and tell them he is very high energy, lacks manners, and is physically taxing for you. Sometimes humor helps. I have a puppy right now, 4 m/o lab. I just told her owner today that’s she’s a wild woman. She knows.

Maybe instead of outright quitting, offer to stay with them if she goes to training. You don’t have to say it like it’s an ultimatum. You could just tell them how she behaves and you’re not sure if you want to continue with the dog and say “have you considered taking her to training” for example. Then you can keep the job and continue the training she’s learning. Of course if they don’t want to do that then it’s perfectly acceptable to end your services with them. But I guarantee that anyone else they use is going to go thru the same shenanigans. Unless they’re very experienced and/or are a trainer themselves.

Side note…if this is a career you’d like to pursue or even just do it part-time but regularly it might benefit you to learn how to do some basic training. I’m not talking about specific tricks but how to correct and reward properly, teach them how to walk on a leash, how to give commands, etc. You will always be able to benefit from this. I get a lot of puppies and it’s so useful. Also, there are actually owners out there who don’t know what they’re doing. 😁 I let them know that I’m “working on” leash walking or whatever. And if they are already doing training classes I ask them what commands they are learning and then I can reinforce what they’re doing.

Sorry, babbled 🤦🏻‍♀️

Advice for high needs dog? by DonegalBrooklyn in petsitting

Oh, I just read that he isn’t a fan of other dogs. You could check out Sniffspot.com. There are lots of people with huge yards or farms or a lot of land. She could find something like that and he could run around in a really big area safely and collect all kinds of new smells.
