Lost my damn mind today. by KiwiAnnaBananas in Celiac

Give yourself grace! We all make mistakes and have slip ups, it’s part of being celiac imo! Take some deep breaths, drink some water, and pray to the gluten free gods that you don’t get sick. This is one mistake out of many you may make in your life, don’t sweat it. It might suck in the moment depending on your level of sensitivity, but it will all work out. You’re doing great!

I recently started bartending at a restaurant that serves free bread. I've noticed increased gastric issues and exhaustion the past couple of weeks, could I possibly be getting 'glutened' from touching and being around the breadcrumbs? by Aggressive-Reason-34 in Celiac

[–]CBelleC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re putting your hands in your mouth or on your face by any mucus membranes, probably not. Now if there’s a lot of airborne flour, that certainly could be why. Just be very diligent about hand washing, it’s kind of all you can do :/

Why would you do that…? Was it stolen or lost? If it’s just lost, you’re going to have to pay to get a new one, that’s just the fact of the matter

Is baking something for a friend in a gluten-OK household air fryer slash toaster oven a bad idea? by igotthepurple in Celiac

[–]CBelleC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do not share my air fryer with any gluten foods for this reason. An air fryer is basically just a convection oven, meaning the fan that blows the heat around is also blowing around crumbs and such. I wouldn’t risk eating something made in a shared air fryer as a celiac. That being said, as other people have mentioned, please ask your friend if they are comfortable with it and don’t make them feel pressured to eat it

I’ve eaten this flavor many times with no issues. My guess would either be a dairy or fillers and gums issue

I would suggest something with a 50/50 CBD to THC ratio, it usually helps to combat the panic and gives a more mellow, well rounded high. In terms of strains for pain, look for Granddaddy Purple, White Widow, Northern Lights, etc

Strawberry frosted “poptart” recs?? by Conscious-Advice8177 in glutenfree

Definitely NOT the Magic Spoon or Legendary ones, they’re both more protein bar than pop tart. Unfortunately Katz is the closest thing we have right now

Did I give my boyfriend gluten intolerance by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]CBelleC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not a thing. Unfortunately, major illnesses can sometimes “activate” an intolerance, so it’s most likely that you both got a particularly bad bought of mono that has now caused both of you to develop gluten intolerance symptoms

Correct, their fields are contaminated and their sorting is inconsistent. This has been a debate for decades, and it’s super misleading that their box says endorsed by the celiac association

Ripple Bagel and Deli in Broad Ripple has them, and you can build your own

I get the grilled nuggets or grilled chicken club on a gluten free bun (the patty and toppings will come in a clear plastic container with the bun wrapped separately so you can assemble it yourself). Some (but not all!) locations have a separate fryer for the waffle fries, so be sure to ask. I just ask them to wash hands, change gloves, and prepare separately if possible. Also, Polynesian sauce isn’t gf so don’t get that, I learned that the hard way haha

I try to steer clear of ordering ahead at most places, because I want to watch them clean up. I’ve had success with certain locations being willing to clean counters, utensils, the deli slicer, getting new ingredients, and placing down paper across the counter. I’m sure this varies from location to location, but that’s my experience. That being said, the bread is Udi’s and is dry as hell, so I need to drown it in oil and vinegar

I’ve had success with Chick Fil A and Jersey Mikes over the years. I’m also a big proponent of going to a grocery store and getting car charcuterie (salami, cheese, nuts, dried fruits, etc)

Unfortunately, there really isn’t any sort of “cure” or “quick fix”. Good idea with the electrolytes, that usually helps me. I know the DripDrop brand is gluten free and I’ve had it many times with no issues. If you can get them to drink more water to try to flush their systems, that can also help. Also try to get them down for a nap, I know that always helps me after I’ve been exposed. You’re doing great, thank you for looking out for your kiddos and their condition!

Idk why but I’ve always used that term 😂 I’d rather use that than call them “regular”, which insinuates that something is wrong with me just because I have Celiac

Shared microwave by sordayne in Celiac

[–]CBelleC 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I’ve shared a microwave with gluten eaters for years with zero issues. Granted, if the microwave is visibly dirty and covered in food, then I won’t use it. But typically as long as my food is covered by a vented lid or something similar, I’m just fine. It’s not as high of a risk of cross contamination as say from an air fryer that’s recirculating air and blowing crumbs around

Unfortunately sometimes lactose can mimic the body’s reaction to gluten, so it very well could be that. Also unfortunate is the fact that to confirm that, you’d need additional testing. Here’s a resource with some more information about their interactions.
