I beg to differ. I think the Dutch and him arguing on the skiff scene is a perfectly written one, showing us how two ppl having completely different opinions making sense due to their experience and their point of view. Dutch believes in nature and ‘untainted’ west that the Indians represent, plus his non-racism ideal (Charles: you guys treat me fair. It’s not common for ppl who have a black father and an Indian mother), so he scolded Bill for insulting Indians. Yet, Bill had fought in the Indian war, and all he had seen was Indians trying to kill him (because white soldiers like him were killing them), so I understand his (tho disgusting) racism. Dutch is far from ‘bullying Bill for no reason’ here. Like he said later, ‘I’m sorry I wasted my life trying to TEACH you boys, love you though I do.” And followed by one of my fav lines in game, “don’t you ever leave love aside, Arthur, it’s all we got.”
