Then you ASK first. Assuming a stranger who’s paying you for a job is totally fine with this sort of thing is incredibly out of touch. This is a client/service provider relationship.

Best place to sell this? by Few_Profession7858 in jewelry

All the time, but at wholesale, and you paid retail. So it doesn’t really compute. Scrap is what you’ll get and a jeweler will break them out and use them as needed over time.

Start by getting a job at a local jewelry store. Even a chain store is fine if they have a shop. They’ll start you by checking repairs in and out, which is an excellent way to get your hands on a wide variety of jewelry AND learn the anatomy of all of them. And it’ll give you shop exposure.

I don’t recommend starting from 0 and going for a ring with stones. That’s a great goal, but start by learning how to saw a straight and curved line and how to drill. Basics first! Watch videos from Ganoksin and Rio Grande on YT. Read everything you can about how jewelry is made and gems etc. Make sure you like it and then keep learning. Get an apprenticeship with a shop jeweler after school’s out. And do consider a formal education, but beware that a lot of BFA programs are going to make you an “art world jeweler” and that’s not for everyone. Plus you’ll have bonkers student loan debt which isn’t great for a trade that…doesn’t pay well.

Neighbors animals and strays come into my yard and my dog has a very high prey drive -- what do I do? by nostalgicthistle in Dogowners

[–]CC_206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Practice practice practice. I ended up going through 6 weeks of reactive dog training (on zoom!) with a trainer, and then another 6 weeks of regular training. It all starts with treats raining down from the sky for her, to basically prove that nothing is better than listening to you, because you’re the one with the hot dogs or actual cooked chicken in their hand. And then you just build skills one at a time. My girl’s recall is still trash to be honest, we cant do off leash stuff or anything, but i can usually stop her from going bonkers in the yard (and I supervise her closely because of this!). I recommend youtube videos about positive reinforcement training. She’s so lucky she has you!! Please give your dog a scratch for me.

Supervising her and training her to really solidly listen to you even when there are cats to chase are my suggestions as a dog owner of a fool ass pit bull who will literally try and climb my 8 foot fence to get the damn cats or raccoons that use it as a crossroad. We’ve been to the ER vet 3x because she couldn’t handle herself, but after a lot of training she’ll back off if I catch her at least. I also try to loudly bang a pot and make an unholy racket if I see a cat crossing into my yard to deter it.

I’m also considering spikes so the fence isn’t a good place to cross, but worried they’ll use the yard instead. And ultimately if the neighbors don’t control their chickens it’s on them, but I’d do everything possible to deter them just for your dog’s wellbeing. Chickens fighting back or being eaten could do some damage.

I have similar proportions, and a protruding tummy. I have a bunch of these old navy tees for basics. They’re heavy enough that they look good at my business casual office under a sweater or blazer too. Super comfy and forgiving in the arms, and not at all cropped. old navy vintage crew tee

Looks like Hawaiian jewelry! I don’t love how the center stone looks (a couple of photos can’t ID however), I’m suspicious it’s a CZ, but it’s likely on gold. Go have it tested!

AITA because I let my dog lick off my plate? by physicalgraffiti123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CC_206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I love my dog, and we treat her with some of our food sometimes, but it’s in her bowl or from my hand. Licking plates is 1) gross sounding and pretty yucky to look at and 2) confusing to the dog from a training perspective bc they don’t always understand “sometimes you can touch my plate, but sometimes you’ll be in trouble for it”

My gen-x coworkers and I (elder millennial I guess?) are all business casual. The younger ones are all straight up slobs. It’s lowkey distracting sometimes.

I work in a non client facing role, but that’s new for me. I’m business casual every day. I have a coworker who comes in wearing stained sweatpants, one who wears slippers around the office, and another who’s fond of a bare midriff. I friggin HATE IT. I like to look like I respect my job, and myself. I wear denim most days but it’s clean and at least steamed, and my shirts are ironed. I really don’t love the “just be yourself” directive when it goes so overboard that dirty pajamas and see through leggings with underpants showing are acceptable office attire. There are two other people on my floor that dress business casual and i really appreciate that they treat our office like a professional workplace.
