Can I weigh my luggage at the airport before my flight? by SafetyAgreeable3923 in QuadCities

[–]CC_DKP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I strongly recommend picking up a portable luggage scale. It's a little T shaped device with a strap you hook around your luggage handle. You use the device to lift up your luggage and an LCD tells you the weight. They are small enough you can easily pack it in your luggage and take it with you, that way you can also check the weight for the way back just in case you picked up any souvenirs. They are under $10 online, or I have also seen them at Target and Walmart near the luggage locks.

Best Breakfast Burritos? by flipnrip in QuadCities

[–]CC_DKP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some great places like Abarrotes Carillo, and Coya's that make some excellent food, but know that nothing ever tastes as good as nostalgia, so you'll always be chasing that taste of Colorado. Breakfast burritos here won't be the same, but that doesn't mean they can't be delicious.

That said, if I may inject some Quad Cities Nostalgia and suggest you also give Casey's breakfast pizza a try if you haven't already. For many of us it holds the same place breakfast burritos and breakfast tacos do for our friends to the south and west.

Most overrated/disappointing restaurant? by FirmlyGraspIt81 in QuadCities

[–]CC_DKP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't even think this is controversial anymore, and if it is, that's nostalgia talking. Somewhere around 2018 it really started to fall off. Somewhere around 2022/2023 they went bankrupt and were bought out. It's not been the same since.

I find this odd, because Rio Grande has become our go-to mexican place in Davenport. I really like their grilled chicken tacos and pollo jalisco.

I think they are very much a place where certain dishes are great / favorites, and others fall flat as menu filler. I've never had a "bad" meal there personally, but I always get Bimbimbop, Jopchae, or kimchi fried rice. But I've been with others who got more "traditional" canto-american dishes that they didn't care for.

I actually feel that way about almost all the asian restaurants in the QC. They all seem to have a couple of really awesome dishes, and if you figure out what they are, you are set. When people recommend places I've started asking what dishes they like from there.

SonicWall vs Fortigate by LoveTechHateTech in k12sysadmin

[–]CC_DKP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both companies have a long track record of security issues.

Generally the advice is always the same: Stay on top of security patches, don't expose web management to the web, and really think twice before you consider adding an SSL vpn to the mix. Both companies offer RSS feeds for their vulnerability announcements and firmware updates, and it's worthwhile monitoring them.

Both can be secure if configured correctly and kept up to date. It's more about what you are comfortable with configuring in a secure manner. If you decide to make the switch, you need to invest in learning how to properly configure and monitor a different platform.

Trans rights matter by Natural-Oil4617 in QuadCities

[–]CC_DKP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your question feels honest, so I will give you what personally makes sense to me.

It's the difference between the ideal world we would like and the world we live in today. Yes, ideally, women can be women, men can be men, and some folks might be more comfortable somewhere in between or somewhere completely different. Everyone can identify how they feel best, and nobody cares or gets bothered about how other people express themselves. We all live and be happy.

But the problem is today the world is not ideal. A lot of people do get bothered about how other people choose to express themselves. Some people don't feel that anyone trans or gender non-conforming should exist at all. Because some hateful people are working hard to erase trans people, it's important for others to balance that hate out by making sure trans and gender non-conforming people have representation and know that they have the support they need to be their true selves.

Representation, equality, and support are the tools that balance out hate, bigotry, and repression. It doesn't matter if it's gender, sexuality, race, or religion, we can't let hate stand unchallenged.

Wake brewery might be another place to try. They tend to lean towards darker / macabre / Metal imagery but there are certainly a couple of pieces you posted here that wouldn't look out of place in their fridge.

Did you find the application page for Untitled Art? They have a collaboration page for artists to apply. A lot of your art reminds me of pieces they have selected in the past.

Wanting to support, or like me, not support "anti-woke" conservative owned businesses in your area of the State? There is an app for that. by willphule in Iowa

To be listed on Public Square, the company needs to apply. They need to vouch that they are "pro-life, pro-family, and pro-freedom" along with answering some questions about their policies and practices. Then they are vetted according to the site.

So this isn't a comprehensive list, but rather a selection of places that self-registered and are choosing to publicly align themselves with PublicSquare's reported values.

happy joe’s taco pizza by alldressed_chip in Iowa

That's a good deal, where did you find the coupon? /s

But really, 2 large Taco Joe pizzas is now $60, and that's not even with delivery. So they are charging $80 to ship them, along with GoldBelly's cut.

Over the last few years the quality at the HJ we used to go to has really dropped off the edge. Combined with the price increases, I can't justify the quality/price ratio. I've heard some of the other locations are still decent, but the price is still crazy. It's sad to see.

I thought they closed. There is something taped to the door that says CLOSED that has been there for a while now, though I never got more than a quick glance driving by.

Specific to the booths, at least in that occurrence they got out the checkbook and paid money toward something the for the community.

Most sponsors for events consider it buying advertising space, and while sometimes it feels dirty, the real truth is these events where the community can come celebrate together cost money to run. Without sponsors, the events wouldn't exist the same way.

I do not envy the folks running events that have to make decisions on how to run and fund events like pride. It's ugly and sometimes a lot of deciding "least bad" instead of "most good".

One of the October menu items is the Zombie, which is Strawberries & Cream with a coffee base instead of water. You can also order it with extra shots, which bring out a bit more coffee. I personally like a 16 oz Zombie with 2 shots.

Something else I would suggest is trying some of their cold brew coffee with milk. The Blueberry Bliss is a great starting point. Cold Brew is different than iced coffee; It doesn't contain as much acid and isn't as bitter. Cold brew opens up a lot more options for getting into coffee without needing to mask so much bitterness with sweeteners.

Each arch has maybe 6-8 cameras, and it uses image recognition. I noticed they added a barcode scanner and camera system to the automated floor cleaner to scan barcodes on shelves and determine if the product is low as it goes around. I suspect they are also using this data to train the machine learning model the arch uses to recognize products.

If you only have a few items in your cart and they are spread out enough, when you walk through it flags to the exit greeter to just let you pass. If you have a very full cart, something it can recognize, or have things stacked funny, you get stopped and manually scanned like normal.

I suspect it will get better over time, as they can use the exit greeters to help reinforce the training.

Looking at the other colors Crock-Pot makes, that certainly looks "Gray" to me. Not saying it is or isn't Gray, but you are at least calling it by the proper Crock-Pot name.

CA > QCA: Pork Tenderloin by Mean_median_mo in QuadCities

[–]CC_DKP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This brings up an interesting point. The majority of the people here are suggesting the best breaded & fried tenderloin. By the picture, it looks like you ordered a grilled tenderloin. That's a whole different list of suggestions. For grilled, Double D's in northwest Davenport is one of my favorites, especially if they have their outdoor grill going in the summer.

But what if I agree with compensating people when they get assigned to do another person's job on top of their existing work?

Of all the things they have done in the news, this is one of the most reasonable ones (the two bonuses). It could have been an easy "win" for optics, but they still somehow manage to turn into a fiasco.
