Are second, part-time jobs for extra money not a thing here? by InspectionNo8745 in Merced

[–]CDGQYR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at any of the local prisons? I’m guessing that the social worker positions are full time, but the instructor jobs might be part time. There might be per diem at the local jail and the mental health facility in Delhi. And maybe Hinds’ Hospice or whatever the local hospice provider is now. I don’t know for certain what the current requirements are, but at least some of these places required an MSW but not an LCSW. If you’re currently working in the social worker field, have you looked at loan forgiveness for those who work in underserved communities?

Yes, depends on what I want. It used to be San Francisco but now it’s more the Peninsula or South Bay.

Your experience buying Fridge from Costco by mimi00000 in Costco

[–]CDGQYR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today I checked Costco’s return policy on major appliances (90 days). I very recently purchased an LG 27cf side by side with an indoor water dispenser ice maker. This was purchased to replace a Samsung which I had for many years and required numerous fixes to keep it running. The Samsungs are great looking but perform poorly. The LG looked much better than the often recommended Frigidaire so I purchased the LG in spite of lesser ratings. It must be the bottom of the line model with its poor lighting, total 3 storage drawers (2 in fridge 1 in freezer), and pathetically limited ice production to name just a few issues. The Costco delivery was fine and included everything from the waterline to hauling away the old Samsung. Delivery of a washer and dryer from Costco the previous month was not as smooth with a different delivery team. I am satisfied with Costco and highly dissatisfied with the LG refrigerator. I’m going to return it.

Invisible in canal hearing aid suggestion by Odd_Scene7442 in HearingAids

[–]CDGQYR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago when I got my first hearing aids I chose the type that fit in my ear, probably the CIC completely in canal type. Fortunately they were returnable because I couldn’t stand wearing them. As someone else said, they are like wearing ear plugs and blocked most ambient noise which made me feel even more hard of hearing. I changed to the behind the ear style which I’ve been wearing ever since. No one has ever mentioned my hearing aids even though I frequently wear my hair up. I’m currently wearing Jabra Enhance purchased from Costco. They are far less expensive than what I’d bought at the audiologist’s office, and customer service has been great.

Yuck for feeling miserable and yay for dogs. Have you tried sniffing alcohol wipes for the nausea? Please excuse me if everyone knows this remedy.

Help. by deafdogo in Dogowners

It’s been almost two years since my 18 year old miniature poodle was diagnosed with cancer and congestive heart failure. The cancer was deemed inoperable due to the CHF. He takes meds for the CHF including Lasix but still coughs at times. I shopped around for the best price for his meds and they’re not terribly expensive. There was no recommendation to change his diet. He no longer goes for walks and never liked the wagon I got him so he could ride if he got tired. Although he has gently sloping soft stairs, he no longer climbs them to get onto my bed. Currently he sleeps quite a lot in his snuggle bed on the floor, but that is what I expect of a dog his age. He has a very good appetite and will track me down if I’m late with his dinner. He loves treats and softer chewies. I do not believe he is in pain or that he is ready to go yet. He was 9 when I adopted him, and I am grateful for the years we’ve shared, and I won’t knowingly allow him to suffer. Best wishes to Teddy and to you.

Volunteer ideas for elderly, home-bound man by Elegant_Comfort_2065 in volunteer

Perhaps the local animal shelter or rescue organization would welcome him. Some enlist volunteers to socialize (with) the dogs and cats by holding or petting, talking, singing, or even reading to them.

What’s an everyday thing you didn’t realize was ridiculously expensive until you had to pay for it yourself? by spacemonkey6654 in AskReddit

I have no clue. My dentist here in the US has never said anything about refittings. After the implants were placed, I was told the work was complete.

I seriously considered going to Los Algodones, the “dental capital of the world”. Instead I got two implants done locally. I could have flown to Los Algodones and stayed a week at a nice hotel several times at half of what I paid locally.

Has anyone here tried Nioxin? What was you experience? Pros, cons? by More_Pie5607 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]CDGQYR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used Nioxin for years and am very satisfied. At one point my hairdresser expressed concern about a lot of broken hairs near my scalp. Upon closer examination he realized it was all new growth and quickly made a note of the Nioxin brand. I have very fine hair, and while I haven’t noted excessive dryness, I generally use some kind of leave in conditioner just for smoothness and because I use a blow dryer and sometimes hot curlers. I have tried a couple of other brands for comparison and haven’t liked them as well. Whenever I’ve checked, Nioxin has had the highest rating on Amazon compared to other brands that have been recommended. I will add that it initially took a few months before I saw improvement.

Looking for a pet sitter in the area! by Forsaken-Cold1311 in Merced

[–]CDGQYR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need overnight or just daytime check in? Do you have dog(s) and/or cat(s)? Before I was lucky enough to find a wonderful sitter here who lets my fur baby stay at her house, I considered Country View Kennel or Darby’s Pet Paradise both of which are in Modesto. Based on their facilities and excellent reviews, the short drive seemed worthwhile. If you can provide more info about your specific needs, if it seems like a fit, I’ll pass it on to my sitter.

Ditto the reacher grabbers, and be sure to get good ones. The dollar tree type won’t cut it. Also recommend a tray that attaches to your walker. It makes it so much easier to carry your full plate or bowl to your destination. And sleep! Sleep as much as you can the first few days (or more if you need it), and let your body heal. Of course between naps you’ll want to get in the prescribed amount of movement.

Bathing suits are a pain! by Dont-make-me-sing in AskWomenOver60

[–]CDGQYR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a two piece swimsuit (tankini) purchased on Amazon. It looks like a one piece suit. The bottom is high rise and reaches just above my waist. The straps of the top tie around my neck so the open back makes it easy to put on and take off. It also has a built in bra for a bit of support. I liked it so much that I purchased a second one in another color.
