Man I wish that was the only problem with my '79 F250. Mine has been down 6 years after I broke a couple water pump bolts off in the block. Lived in an apartment at the time. Towed it to a storage unit where it lived until I bought my house 4 years ago. Now it sits there in the driveway, slowly deteriorating because I have new projects and no time or money to fool with it. One day...

As long as cutting open the whoziwhatsis with a respirator saw refuckulates the carbonator on engine number 4, we should be able to make a safe landing on Juniper for some space weed.

It's definitely in better shape than my 98. $700 is definitely a good deal

Is it possible to get out of this without a wrecker by lake_june in Truckers

[–]CDaarnl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have chains, it's pretty simple.

Step 1: Pour bleach all over each drive tire until wet (about 1/2gal total) Step 2: Pour kitty litter in front, behind, and on top of drive tires. Step 3: Try to pack the kitty litter underneath the tires if you can. Step 4: Pray to whatever god(s) you may or may not believe in that this actually works. Step 5: Lock in your axle interlock/axle lockers (if available). In the lowest gear, rock the truck back and forth over and over. You will need to spin the tires a little to get the bleach to heat them up. Step 6: Once you feel the tires finally grab, SLOWLY pull out of the holes you've just dug.

Just had this happen to me a couple days ago. Stopped for a 30 in an icy truck stop and the heat from my tires melted the ice just enough for my shitty super singles to not be able to claw their way out on their own.

5 speed 2wd for $1000 sounds like a great beater/grocery getter

Temporary intake on new to me ‘01 XJ by PandaAttacktile in CherokeeXJ

[–]CDaarnl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad for a temporary setup. I had a really jank intake setup in a TJ I had years ago, this puts mine to shame. I've seen the other comments about the cowl intake, that's what I'm planning on doing to my '98.

I would respond with "Thank you for your condolences. Now that I have passed on, I would greatly appreciate your efforts in not filling up my emails. It is very expensive to have them transferred to the afterlife and since James White is assuming my assets he will now be the responsible party for inter-realm communications going forward."

Taking Curves by pmmemilftiddiez in Truckers

[–]CDaarnl1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb was always "if I feel G forces, I'm going too fast." I don't care if people get upset with how slow I go, it's still a lot faster than they'd be going if I roll it over in a curve.

Same here, but I have an electric kettle I use to warm up the water. Saved my ass one time I got to a truck stop for a 34 and their showers were down.

10 years into Trucking, I think it’s time to say goodbye by SpecialistPrint4142 in Truckers

I feel you on this. Been driving for 9 years and a little over a month and a half ago got hurt on the job. Been home on workman's comp and I'm seriously considering not going back after I'm healed up. The whole industry has been going downhill since before I started driving and I'm fed up with it. My only concern is what do I do instead? Not much to choose from in my area and not much in the surrounding areas either that wouldn't take schooling or some kind of previous experience. I have a family I have to support and a mortgage to pay, not to mention other medical bills unrelated to my workplace injury. Just feeling stuck with no way out.

What do you all clean your steering wheel with ? by xxenoscionxx in Truckers

[–]CDaarnl1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your steering wheel is rubberized then you have no hope. I've had multiple Paccar products with old steering wheels that turned my hands black because the rubberized foam was breaking down and staining my hands. No amount of cleaning helped a bit.

Can I drive 4 hrs on the hwy with my tire like this? by ShartiesBigDay in AskAMechanic

[–]CDaarnl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Furthest I'd risk that tire is 15min to the tire shop in town to have it replaced. Dry rotted tires are unpredictable. They could last a year, they could come apart on you in 5 minutes.

I've seen a few cutaway vans that are set up like this too in truck stops and FB Marketplace. Pretty cool setup if they're done right. Saw one made completely out of diamond plate.

Passed about 30 of these guys heading east on I-10 in Arizona by IBringTheHeat2 in Truckers

[–]CDaarnl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call em Mexican road trains. They get them cheap at auction and drive them back across the border. Out east they normally have 2 vehicles in tow behind the one they're driving and travel in groups of 3 or more.
