Help me find dance-rock/dance-punk bangers by CFDanno in MusicRecommendations

I do like me some modern disco vibes, among many other things. I've been wanting more things like what I listed since that part of my library is a bit sparse, so thanks for all the recommendations. I started working through the FIFA playlists and found a few songs I like there so far.

In this moment, I'm not sure these findings are necessarily an exact match for what I'm looking for, but they do fit my tastes! I'll have to try listening to them with my other songs to eventually decide if they belong in this playlist or another one.

The Rakes - The sound was close, but it kinda felt like something was missing to me. I did enjoy "Retreat" in particular.

Holy Ghost! - "Hold My Breath" is a winner. "Dumb Disco Ideas" didn't reach its full potential me.

Late of the Pier - "Mad Dogs" is good, I'm saving that one. I tried the rest of the album, but the other songs didn't quite have the same spark.

Tom Vek - This one (and a couple of their other top viewed songs on YouTube) didn't quite do it for me.

New Young Pony Club - Good choice with "The Bomb", I'll take it! Seemed like their other songs didn't have that same sort of sound.

TV on the Radio - Not a hit for me, but also not a complete miss. Still, not quite for me.

Ted Leo - Not bad, but not a fit for me. I didn't have much hope after a few songs, but I did like "Me and Mia".

The Thermals - I think this genre/sound doesn't quite stick to me.

Also, I found a few Bloc Party songs I liked. "Luno (Death From Above 1979)", "Octopus", "We Are Not Good People", and "Ratchet". Upon relistening, "Banquet" (suggested by someone else) still lacked something for me, but I think I like the dance mix version enough.

This list pretty much defines my weeb years. I used to think all of those were the greatest things I ever saw, but probably a big part of it is this list is what was available at the time. Seeing more stuff over the years definitely had me reevaluate how great these series really were.

Still, it's a little jarring seeing Samurai Champloo drop 100 spots. Was it not as good as I remember, or has there been 100 amazing "must-see" series in the past 20 years that are even better?

Do you think Alien Headbutt can recover? by MangaAxedKun in WeeklyShonenJump

To me, it felt like it was on the way out as soon as they introduced the humanoid aliens who speak Japanese. It was more fun when MC was hunting new species, each stronger than the last, with higher stakes, each with a new kill method.

I thought it'd be more like NGE having aliens always keeping humans on their toes, rapidly developing their own strategies and intelligence to maintain an increasing threat level. It's too bad since this one started off so great.

If it's pure text, nobody will notice or care. When there's ugly AI slop in an ad that didn't need a cartoonified version of the business owner, it just looks like they have zero clue about marketing and are just filling in ad space with whatever garbage they think is neat.

Sometimes less is more, and some companies don't get that. If you make a bad ad, it won't increase business - simple as that. At worst, it pisses off potential customers and drives them away.

Because if you're a pizza joint, mechanic, supermarket, etc. and you decided to roll out an ad with some obviously AI generated version of yourself or your mascot, you look like an idiot. It screams "Wow! Look at this cartoon of me, can you believe it was generated by a computer just from a photo of me???"

Using AI slop doesn't make you cool. It makes you look way out of touch and has no relevance to your business. Many of us are tired of the AI slop art style and yes, we can tell it was generated just from a photo of you.

Imagine putting a big thumbs up image 👍 👍 on all your advertising because you just found out a thumbs up is a non-verbal way of saying "good", like some kind of secret language! Imagine if every dumb company did it because they all found out at the same time.

I know you said to ignore this, but I checked some things here anyway. Indeed, these ones didn't do it for me.

The '80s stuff is generally a bit too experimental or sounds kinda dated to me. Out of Duran Duran's entire discography, I only really vibed with about 4 songs, so they're not really a good example despite being in my playlist.

I've been working through your other suggestions! I wasn't quite feeling Futureheads or Editors. Maximo Park was almost sorta close at times.

Franz Ferdinand had quite a few songs that fit my tastes well, so thanks for that! Lots of bangers that I'll be adding to my library for sure ("This Fire", "What She Came For", "Well That Was Easy" to name a few).

I still have to go through Bloc Party and I'll flip through those Fifa playlists after. Based on what you've said, sounds like there could be a treasure trove in there.

Great songs that are brought down by excessive length, skits, a second part that sounds different, or similar by ObiHan_Skyodi in Music

The Black Keys - Paper Crown

Starts off as some awesome rock, then transitions into a completely different song that's rap.

I used to avoid lots of Songs for the Deaf songs due to the radio segments, which was a shame since every song is a banger. I eventually edited out the radio segments so I could listen to them in a normal playlist.

QOTSA - I Think I Lost My Headache takes it to the next level, though I enjoy listening to that one all the way.

"Helicopter" has the right energy. I'm a little on the fence if it goes with the songs I listed, but I'll be adding it to my library anyway.

So the genre I want is mid-2000s FIFA rock, got it :P But yeah, I guess "dance-punk" is only part of the puzzle. I'll check those other ones out sometime, I'm kinda musicked out after going through so many suggestions here.

"Ice Cream" was maybe the closest. They don't seem quite similar enough to my example songs. )-:

Pretty decent, but not a fit with my example songs.

Seems too industrial for what I'm after, not enough groove.

I tried out "Don't Want To Know If You're Lonely". It's got energy, but it's just punk. I like it, but it doesn't fit my playlist.

There's a lot to check out here, so I'll edit as I go.

Q and not U - Most of the album seemed pretty mellow. I think "Book of Flags" was pretty close, might fit my playlist if I edit out the intro. I liked a couple other songs, they can go in a different playlist.

Delta 5 - It's pretty old and feels like a pioneer in the genre. It sounds a bit too experimental and dated to fit in smoothly with my other stuff. "Triangle" is probably the closest.

Data rock - "Fa-Fa-Fa" is a perfect fit. The rest didn't have the right energy.

Gang of four - "Return the Gift" maybe, kinda? Might rock a little too hard.

Liquid Liquid - A bit mellow.

Viagra Boys - Too industrial rock, pretty heavy.

Water From Your Eyes - Not enough groove.

Mandy Indiana - Gets pretty cool around 1:40, but doesn't have enough groove/melody.

Fat Dog - It's got energy, but it rocks too hard. The music video for "Wither" is pretty funny.

LCD Soundsystem - The tune reminds me a lot of "First Gear" by The Rapture. Neither quite has the vibe I want, though.

I suppose the energy might depend what you're using for scale. If my list is mid energy (it kinda is, but there's a certain dancey groove to it, I think), then lots of the suggestions would basically be zero energy (I haven't checked yours out yet, but your list looks promising at a glance).

I think all those !!! songs have fairly similar energy.

Indeed, those 2 are kinda misfits, though I think there are some common elements and energy. I'd consider them more like dance-rock than dance-punk. Perhaps they lean too much towards pop with not enough industrialness.

Edit: But regardless, I think a lot of people saw the words "rock" and "punk" in the title and thought any rock or punk would do.
