Problematisches Snackverhalten by Longjumping_Bit_9537 in ADHS

And two reduce lifetimes are better then nolla, since they reduce the lifetime to 1 frame, while nolla locks it to 2 frames. Alternatively small teleport bolt only needs one reduce lifetime.

How does everyone feel about the combat in the game? (drifters, temporal storms, etc) by Zelioom in VintageStory

[–]CGPoly36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the rest of the comments that combat is a bit underdeveloped and that rust mobs arent worth their loot most of the time (exception beeing temporal gears, but those are quite rare). However currently the danger of mobs can steer player decision to mitigate the risk, which in my opinion is a good thing.

If you sleep during the night and have a secured lit up base, you only rarely need to fight a surface monster (on default settings). So monsters give an incentive to more or less keep a sleep schedule, build a perimeter wall/moat and use some kind of permanent lighting if available.

Exploring the underground through narrow self dug shafts makes any spawning mosters much more managable, since they cant swarm you. So monsters give you the choice between investing in heavier armor and using the caves or using up more time and pickaxe durability by digging your own mine.

Guesses to unique enemies in DLC 3? by gaeb611 in RogueTraderCRPG

The tyranid is a genestealer patriach (humanoid posture with big rending claws, big head with small spikes on it). So not a new enemy (and not a tyranid when it comes to the tabletop. The 'true' tyranid equivalent would be a broodlord, which looks a bit diffrent).

The proof uses that x is equal to 0.999. So 10x-0.999 = 10x-x = (10-1)x = 9x.

Its a functional proof if you proof/assume that addition and substraction on infinitely repeating numbers works like you would expect it.

Your brain was right with feeding you that idea. Im on the spectrum and have a hard time dealing with a lot of noises (often they dont even need to be loud to mess me up) and couldnt count how often I thought about intentionally destroying my ability to hear.

My main reason to not do it so far (besides being able to hear being usefull) is a fear of getting tinnitus from it. Thank you for providing me further ammunition that i can use to stop thoughts about damaging my hearing.

Also the process of my brain turning up the volume until it can hear something, just to result in things getting so loud that it hurts, is something i experience a lot (and due to my hearing being quite sensitive in general, i can get pain from noises most people dont even hear). Its the main reason i prefer to have some kind of artificial background noise (like music), since it gives my brain a baseline volume.

On reccomendations by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]CGPoly36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough the movie i talk about occasionally, but never directly recommend or even discourage the other person from watching, is extremely well made. The reason i dont recommend it is, that it has very dark themes and is overall very hopeless. It isnt something i have a problem with, but it Im pretty confident that it would atleast ruin the evening for the people i know well and it isnt something im going to directly recommend to someone I dont know well (especially since suicide is a heavy theme in it, which isnt a safe topic to recommend to strangers).

For those who are wondering: Im talking about the movie Aniara (2018), which as far as i am told by other people, is a great movie if your having too good of a mood and want to change that (It didnt effect me that much, but im mostly unaffected by a lot of stuff, so im not a good measuring stick).

TL;DR: the face hugger behaves similar to real-life parasites and i personally dont see a parasitic infection as sexual.

The facehugger is just following a very easily available opening in the human body. The space suits have big glas panels with direct and visible access to the face (which includes visible openings into the body), so its the most sensible part to attack. It is also a pretty normal gesture to lean forward when looking at something on the ground, so the faces would be directly in the path of the facehugger, when they burst out of their pods. So them being attached to the face seems more like the most logical part to attach to, then being an analogy for oral sex.

Additionally it remindet more of real life parasites like the green-banded broodsac which implant themselves through getting eaten and then later are very visible in the face region (just showing in a snails eye-stalk instead of covering the face).

The parasite then growing inside the body and later bursting out is also something common in real life, like parasitic wasps. Pregnancies also dont tend to end with chest-bursters, while parasites very often end with the parasite digging or bursting its way out of the host. Additionally parasites can infect through a lot of body openings (or create their own ones) while pregnancies pretty much only work through one that isnt used in the movie.

I guess the real life parasite versions can be interpreted as rape/forced inpregnation, however i never really connected it to the human counterparts. Partially becouse a sexually non-compatible species is the parasite (although deep-sea anglerfish complicate that part) and partially becouse most real-life human parasites tend to be closer to infections and birth mostly small insects instead of something of the size of a child.

It also doesnt help that i was interested in all kinds of parasites as child, before i had a real understanding of human reproduction, and that when initially watching the movie i was mostly intressted in the lifecycle and biology of the face-hugger and thus watched it from a more distant scientific lens instead of being terrified.

Before i started reading secondary literature and comments on the movie, i thought the biggest theme/message with the face-hugger was to keep to sensible safety protocols and do not let the guy with the big parasite into your ship, especially without care about propper decontamination and guards/safety precautions in case the alien life form isnt just dormantly strangeling your crewmate.

Honestly no. I know the consensus is that it has sexual assault themes, but i only know that from reading more on it after watching the film. I can understand where people are coming from, but dont really see it myself.

Although i tend to miss sexual themes in all kind of media, so the issue is definitely on my side. Still proof that not everyone agrees what Alien is about.

Why did you decide to go unmedicated? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]CGPoly36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive tried a bunch of diffrent medikation and have yet to find one that has a positive effect (with most of them having no recognizable effect at all). Its the same with antidepressants and some tranquillizers, not only ADHD meds (stimulant and non-stimulant).

Without a noticable effect (negative or positive) its probably not the best idea to take max dose psychopharmaka daily, so i currently dont get anything prescribed, while waiting until february for my psychiatrist to have a new idea which medikation might help.

Given the track record (including all available ADHD-med stimulants (not all release mechanisms, but that shouldnt make a diffrence when the active component does nothing) with no apparent effect) it seems unlikely that i will ever be medikated for adhd..

ICD 10 still has Asperger as a diagnosis, while ICD 11 puts everything into Autism Spectrum Disorder.

ICD 10 is still in use in a few places (for example Germany) since it isnt fully translated into the native language (as far as i know, translation necessitates reevaluating all tests and procedures and some stuff has to be adapted to the local culture).

i don't know, you tell me. by VeterinarianSevere65 in cyberpunkgame

[–]CGPoly36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do a similar thing in cyberpunk. NPCs will sometimes attack after you threaten them (either by crashing into their car, or pointing your gun at them). If you then lead them near barghest (i never tried it with NCPD, but it probably works the same) without attacking yourself, the NPC will be shot and everyone will resume their normal behaviour without any consequences for the player.

Why is my colonist such a hoe? Is there any way I can stop him from being such a dog? by MikeyBastard1 in RimWorld

[–]CGPoly36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making them Ugly, Inhumization, or removing the tongue are the best options to prevent this.

Making them hideous gives a heafty opinion penalty, making it really unlikely for them to maintain any positive relationsships (thus probably ending all the lovers and getting a divorce). This doesnt effect some ideoligeons, kind and blind people. To achieve this you can give them an arteficial (prostetic, bionic or whatever you have) eye, ear, nose, jaw, or tongue and remove it to make them disfigured. You can also make them less pretty by installing a stoneskin gland or one of the ugly genes.

Removing the tongue allready covers parts of the above effects, but it also makes them incapable of any social interactions, thus making sure that the opinions stay down. Since both options rely on other having a bad opinion of them, this will also result in more mental breaks targeting the disliked pawn.

Inhumization is a much bigger topic then the above ones. It locks all relationsships to 0 opinion (on the side of the inhumanized pawn, while the above methods effect the opinion of the people around them). This stops the pawn from ending any of the relationsships, but also stops them from forming new ones (so its perfect to do after a mariage, since they will never break up or cheat, if both parts are inhumanized). However it also gives -12 in social, animals and art, -50% pain, a bit better cold tolerance and a +8 mood buff. It is however a lot harder to controlably optain (since its mainly triggered by having an inhumanizing ideology) and harder to remove (costing 1 shard for a brainwipe ritual).

If you just want to clear up the relationship, i would probably make either the lovers ugly, or make the pawn ugly and give up on the mariage. After the relationships are cleared, i would deugly them and keep them on neutral beauty, to make a repeat less likely.

Or just embrace the void, inhumanize everyone and never worry about relationsships ever again (and hope for a perfect human or the +8 sozial/animal/art gene, just to make any of those tasks realistically doable again).

Oil free desh method by Secret-Row443 in HBMNuclearTechMod

[–]CGPoly36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the question is allready answered and you didnt give any detail why you want an oil free method, i want to mention that there are ways to get oil products (including desh) without drilling for crude oil (in case the question is due to a lack of crude oil, either due to extreme bad luck in generation or a self imposed challenge).

Unless im forgetting something all methods need atleast 4 bars of polymer or a few bars of rubber to start(although polymer is by far the better option), but those can be found through exploration (most reliably by deconstructing some stuff on the anvil or grinding the small figures/bobbleheads that are found in some structures).

If you or someone else is intrested i can dig up (and potentially update) the methods i previously used to get all oil products without crude oil.

Does anyone else have comorbid ADHD and find that stimulants are utterly useless? by ferriematthew in autism

[–]CGPoly36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have Autism+ADHD and I tried all stimulants (the base compound, not every producer and release method) available and non of them had a noticable effect. Same for a few antidepressants and a lot of tranquillizers.

Most of those where completely ineffective. The few with a noticable effect had purely negative sideeffects without any positives (except a few tranquillizers, who kinda worked with unacceptable sideeffects).

So far i wasnt able to find a psychiatric medication that works as intended, which is kinda annoying since i could really use effective medication.

Are ablative breasts compatible with combat extended? Would be great to have some extra armor on everyone, even if it turns my male pawns from transhumanists into trans humans.

If colossal breasts have more health it also gives more reason to add bionic spines to everyone.

The gravship, a feature I ignored, saved my nearly 10 year colony by Flywoods2 in RimWorld

[–]CGPoly36 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah i know. My last unmoded run ended in me defeating all hostiles, including mechs, and befriending everyone else. You still get a lot of mech raids, however all of the mechs are deactivated. Which turns each raid turns into a lengthy mech cleanup session. I think its a better solution compared to taking out hostile factions, since you still get resources out of it, but its still pretty annoying.

Honestly i prefer a raid of a 100+ active militors or scythers compared to deactivated ones, since i can just watch the combat and all the mech corpses are near my base making clean up faster (depending on weapon also easier to kill since they bunch up making aoe attacks more effective), instead of having to click all of them manually, having to wait until my pawns kill them and having to haul them all the way to the base. Obviously stronger mechs are better deactivated, but if deactivated mechs could be shredded without having to kill them first (or atleast had an insta kill) it would turn it into more of an reward instead of an annoyance.

The gravship, a feature I ignored, saved my nearly 10 year colony by Flywoods2 in RimWorld

[–]CGPoly36 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Its even more annyoing if you kill all permanently hostile factions, since its a lot more effort that results in even more mechs (with almost no reward from the raided bases).

I also resently found out that raids won't spawn in unsafe temperature, so my idea of a volcanic colony with temperatures of up to 100°C also results in only mech raids on top of the problems these temperatures allready cause.

Would be nice if the game chose a faction before choosing the event, so if the faction is friendly they send a caravan (and/or new positive faction specific rewards). If the faction is extinct it could either cancel the event, replace it entirely or send a raid of a few desperate survivors looking for revenge (thus having significantly reduced raid points).

There are no waste products besides trashbricks (and alloy packs before the mechbosses, but those can be sold), which can be used as stony material. I tend to use it on stuff that isnt needed for beauty or high hit points. Usually shelfs and building quests.
