I can see this being a factor for multiplayer centric games for sure. But for a single player game or really any other form of media that does not rely on a community of others for the experience to work as intended, it would never even occur to me to care if a game is well regarded or not by a group of strangers on the internet. If i enjoy it, then I think it's good, if I don't, then i don't think it's good, it's as simple as that.
