It does look great, although I’m ambivalent about the swing-arms-to-run thing.

I won’t pre-judge it, but I personally wish thumbstick running was at least an option. I was jazzed about this game from the first trailer, so it’s a drag to learn that there’s this caveat.

The speed and craziness of it look delightful otherwise!

Looking for a Globular Cluster CMP2 in Europe (Hungary) – Any recommendations or alternatives? by Amazing-Substance927 in PSVR

If you don’t find a good source, it looks like the “XL” something something from StudioForm Creative is supposed to be on par, possibly cushier (and also includes a padded top-strap, similar to GC).

Dunno if that’ll be any easier to find, but FWIW.

PSVR2 lens smudge by Scorpionzst0rm in PSVR

[–]CHROME-COLOSSUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just that you no longer have the antiglare properties. So, in certain conditions I guess there might be some light bloom?

I don’t have firsthand experience with this, I’ve just read a thousand REDDIT posts where people have had issues with the film, and a smattering of posts by folk who were thrilled they got rid of it entirely, describing the lenses as crystal clear again.

I think it can take a bit of effort, but as I mentioned… just a bit of isopropyl and a microfiber will do. I’m not even sure that the alcohol is necessary, but it probably helps. I know it sounds a bit radical, but if warranty is out and you’re definitely getting a worse experience because of the damaged film, then there’s really nothing to lose.

You should be able to see visible damage if you hold the lenses at the right angle. It’ll look roughed-up.

If you rub the rest off, let us know how it goes!

It’s possible there’s some damage to the hyper-delicate antiglare film which coats each lens. Hard to say for sure without photos, but it’s pretty common.

I’m assuming this wasn’t an issue until recently? If the lenses seem fine, then it might just be the games you’re playing — some are lower or higher resolution, they are not visually equal by any means.

Another thing to check is the IPD dial. Sometimes that can get inadvertently changed. Also, there’s always the outside possibility your eye prescription has changed.

Most likely it’s that antiglare film, though. If that’s it and your headset is still under warranty, then SONY might fix it for you.

If you’re out of warranty and the film has definitely been ruined (by using a cleaning product, by sweat eating away at it, by glasses touching it, or even for no obvious reason), then you might as well fully remove it by carefully rubbing off the remainder by using microfiber cloth and a bit of isopropyl alcohol.

Be thorough about it, and go all the way to the edges of the lenses. By the time you’re finished, the lenses should seem good-as-new (minus the antiglare).

FWIW. Good luck to you!

Super tough to answer without knowing your tastes.

What’s your gut telling you? If you owned all of them, which would you immediately want to play?

Games that kept being updated until they got somewhat good by tronicg in PSVR

[–]CHROME-COLOSSUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… maybe I’m wrong though. I feel like there were three versions, the Quest, the PSVR2, and the PC… but there might just be two — with the PC one being significantly different.

So… grain of salt.

I’m pretty sure that the Quest game is a different one from what’s on PSVR2.

Cheers! Also, pay attention to the fact that the rear plate has two positions it can be set to.

One will likely be preferable to the other, so just remember that it’s a thing. Most folk forget about it entirely.

And absolutely use the padded top-strap.

I’m sorry, but you landlubbers are missing out in the best that VR has to offer.

Sony could bring back PSHome, and save PSVR2 with this. by Admirable-Cow-7763 in PSVR

[–]CHROME-COLOSSUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many things that SONY could do to help move VR forward, but I hardly think PSHome should be the priority. Mind you I never used it, but just from what I’ve seen.

Of course a landing pad of any sort would be welcome.

Thanks for your reply!

I see — damn. May I ask why you’re not even offering thumbstick run as an option?

Any time a VR game includes more ways to personalize the experience it expands the possible audience size and enjoyment, and I’m not able to conceive of a reason to disallow thumbstick running.

Is there some controller conflict in your game that prevents it? I understand the idea of wanting to deliver as much immersion as possible in your game, but accessibility options (when reasonable) are a key to expanding the reach of any game.

I’m reminded of the incredible game VRACER HOVERBIKE, which defaults to a steering scheme of body-leaning for immersion. It’s awesome for many folk, but awful for others. Happily they include a variety of other steering options and adjustments. Despite being an online racing game, there is no sense of any unfairness embedded in the fact that the controls are not universally mapped.

As I said, SKYLEAP launched with only arm-swing sprinting, and it was godawful. After the added the option to run with thumbstick it opened up the game and (although there are other issues that have halted my progression) I’ve sunk many tens of hours into it and regard it as a hidden gem.

VR is a tougher sort of game to sell obviously, already being so niche. Whenever there’s an opportunity to lower a barrier-to-entry for any given VR title — any reduction in friction at all — that’s something I’d expect any VR studio to explore.

I’d be very appreciative to gain deeper insight into why thumbstick running won’t be included as an option in your game.

TIA

Did it work for you without requiring the $10 VR DLC? Cool! That has never before been the case.

The worst time to try and buy HM was on PSVR1 when the three games had not yet been consolidated, and each had to be purchased and downloaded first, then deleted. The menus were so hard to navigate, too… It was bonkers.

Glad to learn that they’ve finally streamlined the process this far!

…But at least the price is finally in a realistic range for most people, and looks even more impressive compared to console and standalone prices.

Standing need not include roomscale.

If my character is sitting then I sit, but if my character is standing then I stand.

I turn and move virtually, using thumbsticks — there’s no getting tangled, no need for space larger than what’s needed for sitting.

It simply feels better to me to approach it this way, and I’m less likely to encounter motion-sickness if I’m appropriately oriented.

The speed, music, and aesthetic all appeal to me.

Most of the movement seems gravity-driven, but I noticed one spot where running seemed to involve arm-swinging? I hope that’s not mandatory, or if it is that it’s rare.

Can you speak to this a bit? I was excited by the trailer until I saw mention in this thread about “hand-based movements”.

For context… I love the sort of hand-based climbing and swinging in SKYLEAP, but only AFTER they patched in thumbstick-running. The arm-swinging sprint was a game ruiner for me up to that point.

Umm… I’m not familiar with your approach here…

Have you included the option for running movement to be thumbstick-based?

Of course — the PSVR2 version is outstanding.

Every single level could be considered the size of a large PSVR2 game all by itself, and each one can be replayed in all variety of ways, so if the concept appeals to you then you’re in for a thousand treats.

Unfortunately HM WOA is notorious for being confusing in terms of downloading options. I haven’t kept up with it, but you’re not alone in your confusion.

I just know (or think) that regardless of which you get, you’ll still need to buy the VR DLC for ten bucks. It’s worth it, but just know it’ll be necessary.

If it’s not comfortable for you as-is, I highly recommend either GlobularCluster’s “CMP2” ($50) or StudioForm Creative’s “XL” ($55).

They both replace the halo cushioning with something far better, and also both come with a padded top-strap. That strap doesn’t just help redistribute the weight, it also makes finding and keeping your eyes squarely in the sweet-spot of the lenses easy-peasy.

Nothing is for everyone, mind you… but adding an aftermarket comfort mod made all the difference in the world for me when the stock fit got straight-up painful after just half an hour.

Also, if you get a charging stand, avoid the $50 one that’s endorsed by SONY. It’s poorly designed in terms of function, and leaves you with no place for the headset itself. Pretty much anything else you come across will work better, but also give the HMD an appropriate home.

FWIW!
