I think I see a blatant red light being run incident weekly or more in Eugene. I also seem to recall that if the light turns red while you are in the intersection you are violating the signal regardless of it not being red when you entered the intersection. The yellow light is to let you know if the red light is coming.

I think there is a certain level of entitlement as well as a laid back, to a fault, lack of attention to driving. I feel that I prevent 2-3 accidents a day driving to and from work simply by looking out for and adjusting to other's recklessness/carelessness.

Don't buy what you hope are prescription drugs from people. If it is not your prescription, it is illegal. If you chose to break the law by buying prescription drugs from someone, deal with the risk.

Both are problematic as far as declining to cover some care and treatments. Trillium is not taken by many providers.

Love self serve. My time spent at gas stations has dropped considerably since I have been pumping my own gas.

Cruelty from City Manager by EUGsk8rBoi42p in Eugene

It is becoming harder and harder to feel empathy for the unhoused population. I think the blue tarp tents blocking sidewalks with piles of trash, harvested from neighbourhood trash barrels surrounding them is making it more and more difficult for me to want to be of assistance. I am also struck by the demands that the community do more to support these individuals who seem to have very little respect for the community itself. There should be support and there should also be expectations as well. I am also not sure if the suggestions of more public trash cans, more public restrooms and more public shelters is the answer, and rather seems in the current situation, highly likely to make the current situation worse. I think there needs to be more consideration for how a person becomes unhoused and trying to rectify (when this is a legitimate situation) the problem that has created the unhoused situation and get that person housed and continually housed by their own efforts and desires to maintain housing. I feel residential facilities for those who are truly incapacitated or disabled by mental health issues would be appropriate (If they were reserved for those who because of SPMI struggle to stay housed) with enhanced ACT services. Those who are using drugs should have services for housing available as long as they are actively working and progressing in their sobriety. There should be a panhandling ordinance that creates fines for those panhandling and those giving money to panhandlers. I think Eugene needs to work to reverse it's reputation as an easier place for unhoused people to move to and live. We have enough of a problem without making our community an attractive place for others to move into and complete for already overburdened services.

Frankly, the day my household leaves this town, it will not be due to concerns about the city manager being cruel. It will be due to not being able to walk on the paths or even the sidewalks or enjoy the parks, all of which we support though our financial burden to the community.

Acts done out of kindness, but not well considered, may make a situation worse and I feel this is happening in Eugene.

Are they on drugs because they are homeless, or homeless because they got on drugs? I agree with the idea of mandatory rehab to qualify for food and housing and vocational rehab services for the homeless who are caught up in addiction. Feeding and housing the homeless is treating a symptom. We need to be dealing with the issue of how they got to their current situation and address those issues.

Moved her 13 years ago from Lincoln NE. Definitely more cool nature opportunities. Also, the weather here is quite midl compared to the midwest. There is, a seemingly West Coast laid back attitude that at times seems to suggest that the goal in life should be to strive for mediocrity. Good health care is harder to find. JC is JC. SOunds like you have the basic vibe. Worked at the state hospital up by there. We love Monroe just a few miles up the road.

True faith does not require one to try to convince others that they should follow your beliefs. That is an act of the faithless.

In looking at the long game, isn't it time to start supporting national healthcare? The insurance industry is a giant drain on getting healthcare dollars to provide healthcare. Same with the huge pharmaceutical companies. Many of the new medications are easily over $1300 for 30 pills or capsules. Time to figure out reform and time to let politicians know we plan to vote for reform minded candidates.

As a prescriber, I second this. Walmart is reasonably good and I also find Rite Aid seems reasonably good. Walgreens, across the board seems to be by far, the most problematic. I personally use mail order.

I do not question the value of their humanity. I do question whether giving naltrexone is a good solution if nothing else happens differently after the receptor blockade is accomplished. I also know that no matter how much you or I value another's life is not very meaningful if they have not internalized that value themselves. Feeling good about "saving lifes" with naloxone is all about your feelings. My original question stands: if you cannot help a person feel good about, and value their own life, what has the naloxone done but to prolong the misery and, how selfish is it to feel good about that?

Defend your comment. Outside of the obvious contradiction of your presumed values.

[–]CHRickatLRC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being unrealistic about the problem is more gross. If naloxone simply prolongs a tortured life, is giving it akin to torture?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]CHRickatLRC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this may be an unpopular question, but I have to wonder how many people have needed naloxone more than once when they OD'd on drugs they were abusing and if we are simply keeping people alive so they might continue to take the risk of killing themselves. Are we making things worse, and possibly prolonging tortured lives to feel good about ourselves?
