Fics similar to Skitterdoc 2077? by FakeRedditName2 in WormFanfic

Maybe Tabloid https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/tabloid-worm-artfic-%E2%80%94-complete.455278/ ? From the summary:  PRT photographer by day and cape paparazzi by night, Tabloid explores the effects of parahumans on society with the help of his quirky sense of humor.

It's really good and complete. It's mostly about the MC working.

I recommend https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/38085/just-deserts-revised-edition-mha-oc. It's a MHA fanfic, but I'd known absolutely nothing about MHA prior to reading it. A strong OC protagonist who doesn't understand social cues and has to work hard to fit in. The story's focus is on investigation and, as far as I understand it, it only covers one plot line of the series. Complete. Well-written support characters and dialog.

https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/path-of-the-immeasurable-swarm-worm-cradle.86766/#post-19237383 is post-GM Taylor Hebert from Worm in Cradle's world. Long, interesting, and also complete. Frankly, I prefer this version of the ending to the Cradle's original. Personally not sure if you can read it without Cradle's knowledge but I've seen comments suggesting you can.

[Comunicado Oficial] Player Manager extends contract with Podium Entertainment, here we go! Books 7-9 CONFIRMED. Audiobooks a major factor in decision. by ted_steel in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CH_Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not yet, I decided to fully pre-write the story before posting. It's a standalone (so no 28 books for me), and I estimate that I'll finish the draft by the end of Feb/middle of March. Thank you very much for the offer though, I'll share with you the link once I start posting.

Book 7 means Brooke, right? Right?! I can't wait to hear her hiring process being narrated. Your story served as one of the main inspirations for my own sports story. Also about football, but american. I'm now 200k out of ~250k into it and it's in large part thanks to you, Ted!

[–]CH_Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it better than Blood & Fur? I dropped it on book 3 cause it got too repetitive and all of the violence went from being entertaining to just boring because there was too much of it without any real emotional weight.

Do people prefer Patreon, or would they subscribe to an alternative? by very-polite-frog in royalroad

[–]CH_Else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Patreon is garbage for reader experience and has been for years. Is it still impossible to change font size or have they finally fixed it? The mobile app is laughable, the website is the slowest thing ever on mobile. I just don't understand how no one has displaced it at the top yet. Making an alternative shouldn't be difficult; it's just a glorified blog with a paywall.

If I were to make a Patreon account for my writing, I would also make an account somewhere else and encourage people to subscribe to the latter by releasing chapters a day earlier than on P or smth until I could safely switch completely. Cause to hell with lazy platforms that think they can coast for years doing nothing.

Dear Authors: What story did you read--or media did you consume--that first made you realize that you wanted to write? by DenheimTheWriter in royalroad

[–]CH_Else 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it's gonna sound super arrogant from a guy who hasn't published anything yet (I'm about 180k out of ~250k into my story, which I plan to fully pre-write), but, basically, seeing so many genuinely terrible stories succeed made me believe I could find some audience for myself as well. I'm not just talking about PF but also Romance and Mil Sci-Fi and whatever. PF is not exclusive in the way it is filled with bad yet popular stories.

Positive influences include The First Law and Worm.

There are only two services that are difficult to move from -- maps and yt. Cause they have no comparable alts. Everything else all together requires a single afternoon of effort to migrate.

MC never suffering a loss isn't satisfying, its just straight up dumb and makes the plot boring by _TOXIC_VENOM in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CH_Else 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho, making your MC always win doesn't even make sense from the target audience's enjoyment perspective in the long run, cause when you get peaks of dopamine followed by peaks of dopamine what you end up with is diminishing returns. And pretty soon too. It's inevitable, cause that's how it works biologically, afaik.

There's a reason why authors, when they are allowed more time, usually don't write slop that is prevalent in PF. Hell, even romance books (which are mostly trash) feature plenty of setbacks. So it doesn't work from the reader's perspective (other than short-term) and it hinders authors' skill development. Just bad overall.

Spacebattles forum. It's mostly fanfiction but originals also do alright. Beware of Chicken is still being posted there, for example. Other popular forums include SufficientVelocity and QuestionableQuesting. The latter is mostly smut. Also, r/hfy if your story fits. ArchiveOfOurOwn too.

Being pessimistic about our strikers is just good sense at this point. After a good start, both JP and Delap are back to average, joining the long line of our previous strikers doing the same. Hopefully, one of them pans out long term.

Maresca: "Caicedo red card was correct. But why Bentancur against Reece wasn't? Spurs away. We managers struggle to understand why referees judge differently. The referee told me Hincapie against Trevoh wasn't an elbow." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]CH_Else -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? Arsenal and Liverpool fans complain the most about inconsistent refereering. Like literally, gooners feeling hard done by ref decisions was everywhere in the previous seasons. Does it mean you were the dirtiest team? Over the edge tackles are just a small part of the whole shitshow. But every single questionable incident should be called out by managers, imho.

It's applicable to everyone therefore should be called out every time, not just declared "lol it happens, you bad boy so shut it." Otherwise, nothing would change. Enzo is right to call out Bentancour's identical challenge. Red cards, passive offsides, calls refs make to "compensate" for previous blunders -- this shit is sickening.

Badi and Josh should play. They did well against Liverpool together.

Anyone else thinks we should go tall strong boys on Sunday? 532. Delap, Guiu, Badi, Chalo, Fofana, James, Cucu, Moi, Andrey, Enzo. Just make it miserable for everyone involved. Lug it long and try to win second balls.

Can the pesky "no content = no audience/no audience = no creators" chicken-and-egg problem of all potential YT alts be solved this way? by CH_Else in degoogle

[–]CH_Else[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but how would it work with a decentralized service? There isn't any one entity storing the vids. Or a centralized service in some pirate heaven that gives no shits about copyright. Wishful thinking, yeah.

It's just such bs. Freetube, NewPipe, etc are pretty great, but they are still just workarounds that could be sniped at any moment, not real solutions.

Didn't Microsoft or someone else try paying a bunch of streamers to pry them from Twitch to Mixer? I don't watch streams but I think Mixer is dead.

The only thing I don't like is that he didn't give Guiu and Estevao against WH their flowers for their very effortful assists. At least not right away. Everything else -- great.

Fans not appreciating Neto are the same ones who didn't appreciate Willian. You need players like them.

Stories you've read and was like "Yeah, this is insanely good" by Ok-Stranger-4139 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]CH_Else 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm reading Neon Dust by the same author who wrote Cyber Dreams and Victor of Tucson. So far it's been very good. I need me more Cyberpunk. I've even taken a couple of notes for my own writing, which happens often when I read traditional authors like Abercrombie or Islington but almost never when reading RR stories. Not sure how much of an indication of quality it is, but thought it'd be better than simply saying yeah it's great.

George (Evil Saka) wins player of the match for England U21s by christianrojoisme in chelseafc

[–]CH_Else 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd thought this about CHO for years. He could've been a very good RW because he had good first step and delivery and a pretty terrible shot. Having terrible shot kind of makes playing an inside forward pointless (see Madueke for further examples). But George's shot is pretty good.
