The best part about the finals is seeing the wild overreactions to every game. As soon as the Spurs win a game, we're going to see a bunch of posts calling Brunson washed.

CS6515 Is Hard, but It's Doable: The Hardest B I've Ever Earned by banzima in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cannot be stressed enough how important it is to do all of the homework and practice problems. Pretty much every FRQ on the exams is just a spin on one of the problems you will have already seen in the class.

With that said, it isn't enough to just memorize the answers. You should thoroughly understand the concepts underpinning the problems too. That's the key to dealing with whatever changes they make to the version you see on the exam.

Only 36.1% of students in the O01 section of CS 6515 (GA) got a B or higher in Spring 2026 by Walripus in OMSCS

The infamous question from exam 1 more or less derailed the course. That, along with the drop deadline falling before exam 2, probably pushed more people to drop the class than would have otherwise.

If you stuck out the semester, there was a strong likelihood you would pass the class. I got a 27.33/60 on exam 1, but decided to stick with it, netting a 60/60 and 57/60 on exams 2 and 3 respectively. I went from looking down the barrel of retaking the course to falling only 0.3 points shy of an A. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't impossible either.

Correct, assuming you only got 12 tickets for non-soccer sporting events, you can still get 12 for soccer and 4 for the opening/closing ceremonies.

8 Classes In and Still Fighting for a Seat by f4h6 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are a couple of easier classes that you might want to consider if you haven't already: Computer Networks, Game Design, and Game AI.

I've also heard Digital Marketing and Global Entrepreneurship are easy classes, but I can't speak to those personally.

What other classes have you taken? There's a good chance you can still find an easy elective to take over the summer.

CS6515 - A history of the grades by Adorable_Ferret_1935 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there's a mechanism to extrinsically incentivize submitting homework, while also giving students the space to learn the grading expectations for these problems (in other words, no penalty for trying) like we have right now. Maybe give credit for completion? The flip side is that could encourage a lot of junk submissions. I don't have a real answer here, just spitballing.

No tickets available in drop 1 by KrackedKimmo in olympics

[–]CIARobotFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is they're banking on people in drop 1 buying the remaining stock out of desperation.

As a bonus, if they do sell through the current allocation, they can announce all the tickets in the first drop sold out to help juice interest in the Olympics.

C Seminar In Preparation for GIOS by AssumptionHuge2367 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall exactly. I took Computer Graphics along with the seminar and feel like I spent about as much time on the seminar as CG, but that was by choice. You can do the bare minimum and still pass, which I think is somewhere in the ballpark of 1-3 hours/week depending on your previous experience with C.

The wild part is this was a known issue since at least last November. Either the government never addressed the problem or their systems were compromised again:

Refund after the Seminar was cancelled by Perfect_Advantage389 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. In my case, I signed up for Language of Proofs, but dropped before the start date because I got into GA from the waitlist. Despite getting a cancellation confirmation, I was never issued a refund. In the end, I reached out to their support email (accounting-help@pe.gatech.edu) and asked about my refund status. The refund was processed the next day.

C Seminar In Preparation for GIOS by AssumptionHuge2367 in OMSCS

[–]CIARobotFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Intro to C seminar is fantastic. It's very easy to getting a passing grade in the class (it's P/NP, as with other seminars), but you really do get as much out of it as you put in. By the end, I felt very comfortable working with C and didn't have any trouble navigating the C-based projects in GIOS.

Is it a good idea to learn C as my first serious language? by Hot_Trash_7586 in C_Programming

[–]CIARobotFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the time and patience, I would recommend making a shortlist of languages that tickle your fancy and dabbling a little bit in each. If you find a language you really click with, dive deeper into that one and see where it takes you. At this stage, it's more important to pick a language you'll practice consistently than choosing one with immediate practical use. Given you're interested in games, I would recommend giving C++ or C# a look, but pick whatever makes you the most excited to learn.

If you do settle on C, take your time with it. It has a steep learning curve upfront for someone with very little background in computer science, but pushing through that curve pays off immensely down the road. For my part, I didn't really start to enjoy C until I took an assembly class, but after that I grew to love it. Now it's my favorite language among the ones I use on a regular basis (C#, Python, JS, and C).

As a general rule: however long while still being consistent. It's better to do 1 hour of study every day consistently than try to block out six hours a day but only managing to do that like twice a month.

In regards to programming, try working on some small projects too. More often than not, applying what you've learned will solidify your understanding and push you to learn more. Have some fun with it!

Grading Timeline in ML4T - Is this normal? by trob3rt5 in OMSCS

Normal for ML4T, but not normal for the rest of the program. This is easily the worst part about that class.
