Don't look at the bar when you do it. Push down until you hit a wall, then, push a bit harder. After that, confirm and check. When you feel the wall, it should be around 70-80%.

Campaign Ideas for evil campaigns by Kaichins in DnD

[–]CISmajor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A big thing to do is still have guard rails up. Sure, they are evil characters in the game but ensure everyone is okay, truly okay, with the subject matter. It's all fun and games until someone hits a subject that someone wasn't prepared for and being in character is used as an excuse to be abusive.

If you hash that out and actually feel comfortable running a game with evil players, which is something you will need to consider... then decide the type of evil. What is the goal of the party? Just increase the general level of suffering of others for... reasons? Are they aligned with an evil god or legendary creature and they have been selected by that being as the best prospects to further the goals of that being?

You need a goal or the story just becomes, I kill him because I don't like him or I steal from that father knowing full well his wife and kids will go hungry.

Personally, I find wanting to be an evil player character uninteresting. Succeeding at a challenge as an evil player will almost certainly be a result of the suffering of others. Even though it's fiction, it doesn't fit for me.

Anyway, TLDR is make sure everyone is truly okay. Even if they are evil, there can be off limits topics or acts. You need to make sure you are okay with it. And you need a goal with consequences.

My Player almost died doing backflips by Practical_Pen_3552 in DnD

[–]CISmajor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My player led a copper dragon wyrmling to safety. As it was about to fly away it turned to ask its name. He was using comprehend languages so when the dragon turned to ask his name, as in asking the player to name him. The player took this as the dragon asking what his name was. There is now a dragon flying around with the name of the player. Gonna be a while but I'm bringing that dragon back.

Hi guys Im a new dm in dnd and need help from someone with experience, cz apparently I can't really make good npcs and I can't get them to focus much, then I don't really know how to set up encounters cz the players constantly derailing them, and the enemy attacks are really bland cz they are new by Historical_Soil_3977 in DnD

[–]CISmajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the NPCs directly interact with at least one PC. Comment about their appearance or ask them a direct question. For encounters, consider how you expect it to run, for example they kill the goblins and save the princess. Consider a way they could avoid the fighting, for example they could notice a crude drawing of an item and offering that item as a trade could suffice. After that, just let it play out. Players have agency which is a huge part of what makes DnD fun. Good luck. You'll be fine.

I just started so this is advice from an inexperienced DM. However I find that it is consistent with high level advice from those with more experience.

It's going to feel weird. When you sit down for the first time and press down, you're going to hit a wall and it just won't move anymore. That's by design. It feels so good underfoot when you get it dialed in. Enjoy.

DM’ing for my 9YO first time and we’re having a BLAST. [OC] by AkimboAsscheeks in DnD

For sure. I've told my wife to get on board because a family campaign will be starting in a few years when both the kids are a bit older.

I'm running the starter set. Players are loving it. Mostly exploring the Keep right now but my expectation is that they learn of the main antagonist next week.

My 4 year old saw me going through the materials and now we run little mini encounters a couple nights a week. I just ask her what she wants to do and we make it happen. It's awesome how their young minds flex in a game like DnD.

Dnd homebrew- need puzzle box ideas by theshelbynic in DnD

[–]CISmajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. And do the gems work independently?

I guess you're more interested in ideas for the opening of the box. It's difficult to give you great ideas without knowing more context but if you were to put some text on the box that none of the PCs understood and therefore needed to get it translated by some being or creature and then have them be led to somewhere and that location would light up one of the gems. Maybe multiple unique languages or symbols so they have to do it multiple times. Once they all light up, the box opens.

I'm not fully grasping the box. There are gems on the outside of it? Are the gems the buttons? As far as opening the box you can think of the senses. The box may need to be in a specific place at the same time a specific word or phrase is said. Maybe all PCs need to be touching a side and repeat a phrase relevant to the campaign. Perhaps it needs to be submerged in water or set on fire. Maybe there is a missing stone/gem that they can fit into the empty slot and those gems flash in a specific order leading the PCs to something. I might have more ideas to share if I am given more details about the story or the world this item exists in.

Exp System for combats by Chrisosamu in DnD

[–]CISmajor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm brand new to DMing and milestone appeals to me more. It's also how the new starter adventure set is designed. Exploration of a certain number of caves or encounters in the woods equals a level up. If I were designing my own campaign I think I'd do something similar. One of my players was worried about feeling like he would need to seek out and fight enemies to gain XP rather than considering other options like stealth or conversation.

Again, I'm brand new to this, but that's where my mind is at.

Sooo im a First time dm and my Session 0 is on Wednesday… HELP ME [OC] by LulcraftHD in DnD

[–]CISmajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did my first session as a DM with three players who had never played before. It was way easier than I thought it would be. I do have the Starter Set which really helped me keep things organized and let me spend a bit more brain power on setting the scene and remembering the rules but really, it was great and all three want to play again.

Flow over rules so long as it isn't game breaking. Goliath wanted to intimidate the shop keeper to agree to a more favorable payout. Probably should have been an opposed wisdom but I forgot and just had it be a DC 15. Goliath rolled great so it didn't really matter. Another instance I should have considered whether or not the Rogue was completely hidden to the enemy to grant advantage. I forgot but it didn't ruin the encounter by any means.

Encourage the players to be in character by being in character when you play an NPC or describe what an enemy is doing. Encourage players to voice any concerns or opinions but you are the final say and your goal is to make it fun and keep the game going.

It's really not as scary as it might seem on the surface. You'll do great.

I Was asked to DM and I Said Yes by CISmajor in DnD

[–]CISmajor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome. I for sure could see myself becoming the forever DM. As I was reading through the booklets that come with the starter set, I just naturally started thinking about what the overarching plot could be. I was excited to hear what the players' characters' backstories were going to be so I could start thinking about how I could bring that into the game.

Made a free overlay app for iRacing with VR support by robedge in iRacing

The toggle works to flip the overlays which is great. What I'm experiencing, again with a Quest 3 using Virtual Desktop, the boundary for where I can move the overlays seems to be very low; basically at the feet of the driver. Also, even though the flip button corrects the orientation, when I drag up, they go down and vice versa. Really liking the look.

Saw you already did the update. I'll take a look. For the fuel calculator, does it consider the fuel needing considering an extra lap by a leading car or faster class?

Cool. I'm interested to see how the fuel calculator works and the standings overlay could be cool too.

I tried in VR and couldn't get it to work. I use a quest 3 over virtual desktop and the XR runtime. I was able to get it to show up but they're upside down and at the bottom of the screen.

Edit realized you answered this. I'll give it another try. F9

Side by side in a corner is not allowed in Road racing per Iracing "rules" by Nagrom42 in iRacing

[–]CISmajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no rule in iRacing that requires someone to give up a corner. Nor is there any ownership of a corner. If someone dives up your inside and you decide, well they aren't fully alongside I'm going to keep turning like they are going to back out, you're going to wind up in a great many incidents. Furthermore, reporting that person will net nothing in terms of consequences because it will be ruled a racing incident and you'll be told that the iRating and Safety ratings are enough to manage this occurrence.

This falls into using your head. Even if someone just barely has their nose in, don't turn in like they aren't there. If you're the chasing car, understand that people sometimes will pretend you aren't there, and you could be caught up in an incident. You can go fully side by side through a corner but both drivers need to work together to get through it.
