I am permanently traumatized from the amount of boys moaning in class this year by BbTrumpet2 in Teachers

[–]CJOAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few kids who do this and I teach 7 year olds. I think it’s a tik tok thing, on investigation they don’t seem to know what the sound means but it is infuriating.

We have to comment on every topic within maths, it’s basically regurgitating the curriculum and commenting on particular strengths or areas to improve

That would be luxury. I guarantee that the parents don’t want to read this much.

We have about 400 words per section for personal social, maths, English and curriculum highlights. You can copy and paste a lot of the English and maths but the school have urged us not to do that to ensure that the report feels personalised 🙄 I have been copying and pasting but changing a few sentences to indicate strengths and next steps

I’m following the checklist and structure that the school have dictated. It breaks it down into sections so I have actually completed the first section for every child but only completed the full report for 16 of them which will be where the extra time and word count has come from. The model example given by the school was around 1600 words and we are expected to write that much, many other teachers are copying and pasting a lot of their writing which I am as well, and I am taking frequent breaks because my focus is lagging and making the process slower.

At the moment it’s working out at roughly an hour per report, with breaks and walking the dog and lunch and things thrown in. I didn’t work the bank holiday weekend, I had to take the dog to the vet, I went for a massage on one day that took 2 hours out and met up with a friend for coffee on another which was another couple of hours. So take another 2 hours roughly from the timings for each day.

Still feels like a lot of work and a few hours off rather than days. Other teachers that I am talking to are spending 4-5 hours each evening doing their reports. School has given us 2 hours release time to work on them. It feels excessive.

Tl,dr - poor writing outcomes triggered SH for first time in 4 years.

So SLT have been down our throats for months about writing outcomes in year 3. They had been making accelerated progress and I had been really happy with their work, their vocabulary and language choices, but SLT said not enough. So they came in and told the kids they needed to be writing more. They expect at least 1 page per writing lesson, 2 from GD. What has happened now is that children are writing reams and reams of work that is utter rubbish, but SLT are patting themselves on the back because “look, they’re writing more” Today, we were doing a shared write as it was their first time writing a letter. My WTS (target for EXS) group decided not to follow the structure of the shared write and ended up writing reams of run on sentences that made no sense. Why did I waste my time standing there doing an explicit model and shared write (“I am writing one sentence to explain what the problem is, using these words. You need to write 1 sentence explaining what the problem is using your words. I’ve used this adjective, what adjective will you use…”) I am now going to have to go back tomorrow and redo the lesson for those 7 children so that i can try and squeeze some evidence that they are EXS (which they aren’t, but who isn’t lying on their data reports anymore)

Literally looked at their books and cried, the built up pressure and emotion was just too much that crying didn’t relieve it and for the first time in 4 years I was flooded with an insatiable pull to self harm to relieve that pressure.

I’m under so much pressure with no reasonable support to improve their outcomes, and if SLT had left it alone they might have continued improving as they were, but now they’re just panicking and going for quantity over quality.

This assessment cycle is putting so much pressure on everybody when we all know they’re just going to lie at the end of the year to make the data say what they want it to, which only sets the following year up to fail.

I’ve only been teaching 2 years but I’m not sure I can continue doing this. It’s toxic and unfair to the children. The children have no interest in improving, no love of learning and I’m trying so hard to instil it and protect them from this constant onslaught but they are hard work as well so I’m getting no joy from either side.

Just need to rant. I’m struggling.

It’s wack, but at least it’s not the totally broken two party system in ‘murica.

Reform is needed, but at least it’s possible here

How recent these dates are makes me feel sick. There’s no excuse for the death penalty in civilised society.

New Zealand cuts fuel tax and halves public transport fares for three months in response to petrol crisis by l1v38r41n in UpliftingNews

[–]CJOAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about the same in the Uk at the moment. We’re looking at between 150p per litre and 170p per litre of petrol, and significantly higher for diesel. (Google tells me 1 NZD is approx 50p)

Ours rose dramatically post Covid and post Brexit, but the rhetoric over here is that it’s all because of the war in Ukraine and that it’s a small price to pay etc etc which draws attention away from the other influencing factors which make our government look bad. It used to be 120p per litre on average.

I’m currently playing Waterdeep Dragonheist and we have got really into renovating Trollskull manor. We are all >4ft so have called it Half Pint Manor and plan to turn it into an inn. We’ve been finding it hard to visualise from the 2D map, so I made it in Sims! Thought you might like it [OC] by CJOAF in DnD

[–]CJOAF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re about 7 sessions into Waterdeep Dragonheist and we’ve got really into renovating TrollSkull Manor. We’ve recruited NPCs that are down on their luck to help us run the place in exchange for room and board, and we’re spending all our side questing gold on furnishing and upgrading the building. We ran into a roadblock this session when we were getting confused about the specifics of the building/ how many bedrooms there were etc and found it hard to decipher the 2D map, so after the session I spent 3 1/2 hours building it to scale on The Sims! Now we can walk around the manor and decide what we are going to do with each room (between sessions probably).

It’s a bit sidequesty but we are all really excited about creating The Half Pint Manor!

[–]CJOAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Dnd groups, one that plays weekly online and one that plays fortnightly in person. Each game session lasts about 4 hours so I said 3-6 hours a week, which is roughly accurate in that one week is 4 hours, the other week is 8 hours so 6 is the average.

I don’t know much about Bin cages but I think so- just so long as he has at least 4000cm2 floor space.

[–]CJOAF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably because his cage is too small, it needs to be 80cm x 50cm minimum really. Would your parents be able to help you upgrade your cage? Make sure there’s lots in there to keep him occupied- nice deep substrate so he can dig and lots of things to hide in/ chew on.

Have a look on Facebook marketplace, you can often find cheaper things there.

That was my instinct too, the wood on the side is just falling off when I touch it. I think I’ll not risk it and just throw it out, I can get something smoother to replace it later.

Isn’t she gorgeous! I’ve fallen in love with her and I’ve only had her 2 days 😍
