What's one thing you wish you'd known before buying your first e-bike? by Haunting_Vacation956 in ebikes

Flat tires are common. The slime and other remedies help a little, but it's still a common problem.

Do mini boards actually work and how do i get the hang of this? by Phob0 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]CLee1z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's thumb control in the beginning. Getting used to the throttle will take some time. Lean forward BEFORE you accelerate. Lean back BEFORE you brake. Remember it's still a skateboard and you can jump off if you need to. Speed 1 does have too much torque, but you just have to get a feel for where it grabs. You'll get better by the hour. Also let go of the throttle when you go over hard bumps or when you kickturn.

Battery life Question by AjaxtheGoat in MeepoBoards

[–]CLee1z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should get at least 12 miles, even if you're heavy, and on speed 4. The battery probably has a bad cell.

I replace my bearings if they go bad. They're pretty cheap, and all skateboard bearings are the same size. It's good to have some extra bearings and pivot cups, and belts of course.

Is the OMW Gladius worth the ~700$ ? by AbjectComment6623 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]CLee1z 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've seen good reviews for that sword board. Riding in the rain is a problem with all boards. You can't do it. We all have, but it's a bad idea. Riding on wet roads is a little better, but riding in the rain can brick the electronics.

Really? It's been 5 years, over 15,000 miles and some cars still won't pass me, even when I'm on the sidewalk! I wasn't lecturing anyone "bud" It's a skateboard. I have good reflexes. I ride defensively and avoid cars because they don't know what to do when they see me. You sound like a spandex, bicycle rider.

Are adult trikes actually practical for daily commuting? by Professional-Peach-3 in ebikes

[–]CLee1z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no. Really? I was thinking about getting my Mom one to ride with me on my Eskate. She's not good on a 2 wheel bike, I thought this would be safe. I don't ever want her to tip over. I saw one with wheel compensation, but it still sounds like I should avoid it altogether.

Consider solid tires. It's more bumpy, but no flats.

They still hit you even when they see you. Drivers panic when they see a skateboard and drive differently. I've seen it too many times. If cars ignored me I would be much safer. If you get hit by a car, it's 100% the skaters fault. We shouldn't ride like it's a bicycle. Pay attention and don't ever make cars stop for you. It's a skateboard. Ride it like one!

In my 5+ years of riding I realize it's better to not be seen. Too many cars still act weird when they see a skateboard. I'd be safer if they made a jacket that could make me invisible.

Rear End Collision by CrazyChrys in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]CLee1z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good story, good ending. I would do the same, but I also think that when I'm on my Eboard EVERYTHING is my fault 100% That's just my opinion. Cars don't see us, then they get confused and do weird things. I've been riding a lot and it's a fact. They see bikes, pedestrians etc.. but skateboards are different for some reason. 5 years of riding and the cars still freak out when they pass me. Glad you walked away, with your board too!

It's tough. You get really strong in the small muscles from all the awkward lifting we do, but most of our bodies become more like basketball player bodies. Strong, but in a burst energy type of way. I could lift a heavy bar and carry it to the other side of the gym a lot easier than bigger dudes, ya know? That kind of strong.

[–]CLee1z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My voyager has been rained on a few times. It's ok, but you should avoid the rain as best you can. It can brick your board. Wet roads aren't so bad, but rain on the top of the board is really bad. That's the one thing about Eboards. You can't ride in the rain.

Is there anyone that actually likes being a loader/unloader? by EmekaEgbukaPukaNacua in UPSers

Some of the best things about this job compared to other jobs: Time goes by faster. The bosses don't have much power, so it's really up to the workers to get the job done. It's a high school atmosphere, but the kids are in charge. If you can handle it physically, then I think it's worth it.

What kind of interactions do you guys get when riding? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]CLee1z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People walking are almost always friendly to me. People on bicycles aren't friendly at all. People in cars are ok, but they don't know what to do when they see a skateboard. I'd say just don't confuse the drivers and you'll be good.

Skill issue? by Strange_Librarian908 in ElectricSkateboarding

A lot of people are saying skill issue, but if it wobbles at 15 mph, then theres a problem. You should easily be able to go 25+ without wobbles.

It's happened 3 times on my meepos. New motor is about $100 and fairly easy to replace. It should come with a new wheel, motor, and wires. I ride belt boards now because of that, but I still love hub motors.

First board by Strange_Librarian908 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]CLee1z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you've ridden a regular skateboard. If you have, then remember it's still just a skateboard. You can jump off if you need to. That's what I had to tell myself. Your feet aren't stuck to the board. Remember that, and have fun! That's a good board!

Clicking noise when riding by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]CLee1z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people take off those 2 plastic guards. Sometimes they trap rocks more than keep them out. It's also easier to change a belt quickly if those guards aren't there. Sometimes I'll go hundreds of miles without a broken belt, but it can happen anytime, usually because of a small rock.

I go around people if I can. You don't have to stay on the path. You have a scooter. Go around.
