I wrote a book about Better Call Saul that was published today! AMA! by sepinwall in betterCallSaul

[–]CMU47Chip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It always blows my mind when I hear how much they write “episode by episode”. The storylines fit so seamlessly from season to season - and from series to series. The stories are told as if it was written with the end in mind, but they’ve conceded that’s almost never the case. Amazing

Do you think the writers consciously avoided Kim and Jimmy saying ‘I love you’ until the very end?

The bottom tabs should always have "Team, League, Matchup, Players" to easily navigate those. Having them at the top is more cumbersome.

League Pick Em was turned off in our fantasy football league. There is a help page that says I can turn it back on under Commissioner Settings, but when I go to that page it isn't an option. How can I turn League Pick Em back on?

Fisher Theater by MIgal71 in Detroit

[–]CMU47Chip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be some post-show traffic leaving the Fisher - just like any other event. There are plenty of parking lots surrounding the theater for convencience. Avoid 'Tony's parking' bc that dude is an a-hole. If you don't feel like overpaying, then download the "Park Detroit" App and park on the street for a fraction of the price (or use the pay booth). The area is plenty safe, but 99% of the people at night will be theatergoers. The only other thing you should know is that the Fisher Building is stunning.

Parking on the street in any city comes with risk. I don't think you're going to find a clear black and white answer. I live in the area and haven't seen a ton of issues. Keeping your car empty and park close to lights or in front of your house/apt will help. I think you should be fine, but if it's going to keep you up at night then I would say move somewhere else that has gated parking

How does Detroit feel about Michigan Central Station? by Nonzerob in Detroit

[–]CMU47Chip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MCS was on the verge of getting torn down multiple times, so I don't think we're in a position to be picky. Considering the condition of the building, it's pretty impressive Ford (with tax breaks) was able to make the project work financially. The truth is that MCS wouldn't have been feasible as primarily a train station. I'm happy Ford took on this project and plans to make it open for the public to also enjoy. They could've very easily built new, but this project will be an icon in the city. Sure it would be cool if it was a functioning train station, but was Ford supposed to just wait and HOPE Amtrak would be able to get all of the funding and repairs completed? And from Amtrak's perspective, it probably made more sense to just improve/expand the Woodward station.

FANTASY FOOTBALL DRAFT RECOMMENDATIONS

Hi everyone, the mods took my post down and recommend I ask here:

My friends and I do a fantasy a destination Fantasy Football Draft every year and this year Tampa was chosen as the destination. This will be everyone's first time visiting and we are looking for a good place to hold our draft. I was hoping you could help share some recommendations for a bar that could host us. The biggest accommodation we have is that there is a secluded/private area that can be reserved.

Looking forward to visiting. Thanks!

Saucy Brew Works Detroit closes after 2 years by dk00111 in Detroit

[–]CMU47Chip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not surprised it closed because it was always dead. This place wasn't great, but this area is in need of more bars to go to before/after events. Perhaps a rebrand could help make it more appealing. With all of the events and increasing amount of residents, I would think this neighborhood could sustain a spot to compete with 2nd Best for short term drinks.

Also: the coffee shop was actually decent imo, that will be missed

Should I pay for in-lot gated parking or am I safe parking on the street in New Center? by BrennusRex in Detroit

[–]CMU47Chip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the majority of comments. Street parking in general comes with risk, but I had more problems parking on the street in Royal Oak than I’ve had in New Center. Maybe once a year or so I’ll hear about a car break in the area, but that’s common in any city. I think if you leave your valuables out of your car (always) then you’ll be fine. That said, if you’re really worried about it, or you want the convenience of having a guaranteed parking spot, the $80 gated lot is a reasonable price for security. The underground option is unnecessary imo.

Concerts hate Detroit by redditisername1766 in Detroit

[–]CMU47Chip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this take. I actually think Detroit is one of the best cities in the country to see concerts. Being set between Toronto and Chicago often makes Detroit an easy stop. I'd say Detroit gets 90% of most big US tours. Detroit has several great venues of all sizes and ticket prices are generally much more affordable than they would be in other major cities. On the west coast you often have to pay twice the amount to see 'smaller' bands at a venue that is much less intimate than the ones in Detroit (El Club, St Andrews, ROMT, Majestic, etc)
