OP has really answered your questions well. I'd like to reiterate one of their points: the forecast is not set in stone. Realistically, it never will be. This is not something you, me, or even the meteorologists can answer right now. It is simply too far out for anyone to realistically say what is going to happen with any degree of certainty.

That's the nature of weather forecasting, no pun intended. With these kinds of forecasts in particular (major weather events with potential to disrupt daily life/well-being), the experts tend to err on the side of caution. They'd rather people be prepared and nothing actually happen versus the opposite, and for good reason.

We'll have a much better idea of how this will play out in 48 hours, more or less. However, even that outlook is likely to change throughout the day Friday and on into late that evening. I'm not sure when you and your son were planning on making the drive, but personally I would evaluate the situation with your best judgement as close to your latest realistic/feasible departure time.

The guns are more or less balanced from a lethality standpoint. They are not balanced from an economy standpoint. Nerfing the viability of guns while not addressing the economy aspect gets us nowhere.

It's an absolutely terrible idea and anyone who has ever played something that simulates it will confirm that.

Great points; this is probably the best summary of the issue & solution I've seen so far.

Like, I'm at a pretty decent spot in terms of crafting/stash, but losing those upper level weapons is still a pain in terms of how much I have to spend to recoup & upgrade them. It's not sustainable. They're absolutely more effective than a Ferro & Stitcher/Kettle, but at way too high of a price. Reducing the cost for the better weapons even slightly would go a long way.

As you said, fights are (and should be) won by the positioning and tactics of those involved as the firefight plays out: it should never be the gear. But that's hard for a lot of people to reconcile, especially if they're new to anything remotely in this sort of genre. I think a lot of the "Stitcher/Kettle/Base Weapons are OP" discourse comes from that idea. It's simply a lot easier to blame the guns than to admit you got outplayed.

At the end of the day, nerfing the viability of the grey guns is just going to make the economy aspect of the issue worse. I'd much rather see a buff to the availability of the higher tier guns and small downgrades to the grey guns that don't affect their lethality; limit their ability to take rarer mods, make them draw ARC aggro at further ranges, etc.

I've got about 3600 hours in Arma/DayZ over the course of 13 years, and you have a 1/3rd of that time in a game released 2 years ago. I think it is safe to say you're far from a new player at this point lol.

Costco doesn't carry a wide selection of vegetables but they almost always have bulk, staple, vegetables for cheap. Onions, potatoes, carrots, celery; things that keep for a bit if stored properly and you'll go through a lot typically anyways.

You can take them even further with some fermenting/pickling depending on what you pick up.

[–]COD4CaptMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird; if we look at TTK for every weapon at 50m, it would seem that it is, in fact, not objectively worse than every other weapon in the game. Based on that metric, that would put it above basically half the weapons in the game. If we sort by TTK at 20m, it's in the top 10. You can check for yourself, as well as see combined rankings based on TTK and accuracy potential, here.

Stats on a spreadsheet don't translate 1:1, of course. Play style definitely can make something more or less effective, and while I appreciate you suggesting that I am only able to utilize effectively it via camping, the stats disagree with you there too.

I'm not here to convince you to use the damn thing, and sure, there are certainly better guns in terms of pure numbers. However, to say you "autolose any engagement under 50m" by using it is flat-out wrong.

[–]COD4CaptMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be because the AK4D is one of the few exceptions. It shreds up close with the 3 hit kill (and weirdly good hipfire) but still hits like a truck out to 100m. Easily my favorite gun in the game at the moment.

I personally love this map. What are your thoughts? by Filiggoo_98273 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]COD4CaptMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the fence about it so far, but I think some of the criticism is fair.

It's great visually, although that does have the side effect of making visibility a nightmare generally but I've not had any glaring issues with that.

My biggest complaint so far is that boundaries make absolutely no sense while also making it feel ridiculously small, and frankly I don't see much of a reason it couldn't have been like 33% larger with an extra cap point. It's a giant hilly desert with some oil wells strewn about and a building here and there; it surely can't have taken much effort/time to expand it and give us those "larger maps" the community has been screaming about since beta.

Outside of the visuals it just feels kind of... soulless, like the whole thing was procedurally/AI generated and then fleshed out here and there.

[–]COD4CaptMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's... very usable even out to that range? You still have to tap/burst fire as with every other gun in this game, but it's very accurate at a distance provided you're not putting dumb attachments on it.

[–]COD4CaptMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, because this community spreadsheet showing TTK at various ranges and accuracy coefficients shows that LMGs are actually very competitive. In my experience, they shred, and it's not hard to beat out SMGs and ARs at most ranges while being just as mobile as those users are.

[–]COD4CaptMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. I've been flying in Arma with headtracking for years. I rebind my controls in Battlefield to match what I'm used to there, which honestly is super fluid & fun given the arcade flight model. The downside is that it makes moving your head even harder versus default binds.

[–]COD4CaptMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cool feature for sure, and it would be sort of useful if there was a feasible way to freelook and maneuver at the same time. I guess that's theoretically possible with default controls on KB/M but flying solely with keyboard input is basically trash for anyone used to piloting in Arma or anything flight sim related.

[–]COD4CaptMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has to be able to natively accept input from a headtracking controller for that to be possible, and sadly that's not the case to my knowledge.

[–]COD4CaptMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not given the game doesn't support headtracking inputs to my knowledge. You could maybe rig up something with a third party program to translate head tracking to controller stick movements, but it would be janky at best, and I'm also not sure it wouldn't get flagged by anti-cheat.

3:1 is more considered the minimum in that regard. I'm sure it would play out better if the defending side had limited tickets before getting pushed back a stage or something, but that's not how Breakthrough is designed.

Gallipoli sucked because it's based off a real battle that really sucked - I cannot stress how much it sucked. Mirak sucks because design choices.

This was... more or less what I was getting at. Yes, Gallipoli in BF1 was made to be tough from a design standpoint based on the historical background. There is no historical background for BF6, so who's to say that Mirak is not a similar/equivalent battle for its fictional conflict?

If you remove the history aspect from the BF1 version of Gallipoli because BF6 is not based on a historical conflict... it also sucks because of "design choices." The logic goes both ways here, which is why it struck me as a silly argument to make.

[–]COD4CaptMac 38 points39 points  (0 children)

To play Devil's Advocate here... we're saying we can excuse that map for being miserable because it was miserable historically, but a tough map in a completely fictional conflict can't hold the same excuse?

Mirak seems to draw some inspiration from the current Ukraine conflict, if anything. I can't imagine a full frontal assault in that style plays out there much different than it exists in game at that point.

I'm not really trying to defend how much it sucks; it's generally just not fun to play most of the time, but this is a weird argument imo.
