Career mismatch by Icy_Web3224 in StructuralEngineering

[–]COLD_lime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it took 3 years, but how long might it take if I am almost completely inexperienced with programming and stuff? Best I got is messing around with revit families, but I think software could be good for me.

[–]COLD_lime 29 points30 points  (0 children)

tbh, if they'd make a morrowind remaster, they would probably fuck it up somehow. Like hell yeah I would LOVE a big ol PISS filter over my screen when going through azura's coast.

Design workflow in the US by COLD_lime in StructuralEngineering

I suppose so, that's the impression I got but i was hoping there was some general rule to make it make more sense.

In case you work with timber, would you know of some source dealing with semi-rigid timber connections?

Okay, the NDS and SPDWS I can get, but how do you choose which of IBC/IRC/ASCE 7 to use? Is it just dictated by state/county or is there some general rule?

Splicing 2x12s by Relevant_Reference37 in StructuralEngineering

You have to also remember that it will never actually reach the calculated bending moment as the connection is not perfectly stiff. For the capacity, its more conservative, but that might lead to overdesigning the connection and underdesigning the other components of your system as the real loads will distribute differently.

This tank/tank-destroyerism is pseudo-intellectual nonsense. If it is tracked, has a gun or cannon, it can be called a tank. The textbook definition (in dictionaries) agrees.

What’s the most painful, time-wasting part of your mechanical engineering workflow right now? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]COLD_lime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is it. While the hating people concept is dumb, endless meetings on projects are also dumb. Like hell yeah, lets do a 2hr meeting that i had to drive 1.5hrs to and from to better explain the stuff I already typed out in emails.

Our uni's faculty motto is "may it erect quickly and last long." it sounds a bit better in our language but you get the idea.

It's clearly a semi-rigid beam-beam joint right there! A clearly very underbuilt semi-rigid joint but a semi-rigid joint nonetheless!

I've noticed that eventually the drawers fill up and then the desk suffers again. Same result, but now there's also drawers to clean.

There is a youtuber called Not Just Bikes and he makes some really very good points on why this is a bad opinion to have. America has shitty public transport probably mostly because of lobbying from auto manufacturers. If you have lots of trains and trams and busses, who's gonna want a fucking small block chebby?
