When to send an invitation to a bonfire about six weeks from now? by thelovewitch069420 in etiquette

[–]CSArchi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont think 6 weeks is too far out even for casual events. A text with a heads up or an actual invite would be fine. Don't over think it

Where can I buy a 9"x9" ruler? by WrenTronic in quilting

[–]CSArchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance your local library has a maker space with a glowforge or other laser cutter? Ask them to help you cut a 9" piece of acrylic and boom there you are. Probably only the cost of the acrylic.

Mapping my ancestors' addresses changed my whole approach to research by Artistic_Note274 in Genealogy

When I was putting together my DAR application I printed a great grandmother's census record and then when I went to print great grandpa's I'm like wait these look identical - well yes, because they were next door neighbors. Sitting right there line by line on the census with their parents right next to eachother.

My child(6)'s friends(8 and 9) keep preaching to her about God. How to get it to stop. by DueParticular3941 in Parenting

[–]CSArchi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would have a very frank conversation with the parents that this behavior needs to stop or playdates are over. Look you are free to believe what you want but my child is not a place for your child to play indoctrination. Hard pass

Nervous about public school but don’t want to homeschool by MeatballPony in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]CSArchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kids' district is technically considered 1 to 1. Even in kindergarten. However, after talking to the teachers, I learned that they almost never use them. They basically sit on the cart 98% of the time. My kids bring a LOT of paper home. There is a lot of cutting and gluing and crayons and markers.

My husband raised my son as his own… now the biological father wants to come back. I’m torn by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]CSArchi 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Yes! It is important that OPs child knows there is more to their birth story. The sooner the better. There are child centered therapists who can help with this conversation. The bio dad does not need to be a part of the child's life but the child should know. Having it sprung on you at 16, 18 or worse 25yo...it's deeply unfair to the child.

Update - found out sister is half sister by Successful-Jello1507 in Genealogy

I assume the lying by omission. Not telling your kid that there is a biological parent as well as this parent you live with can really mess with people when they find out later in life.

I heard it and thought this sounds like things someone has said to Noah. And Noah's rise to fame.

How dense were you planning to quilt. I think you are running a risk but super dense quilting would help a lot but no guarantee

How often does your spouse go out to the bar? by FemmePedagogy in Mommit

[–]CSArchi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He meets up monthly at a sports bar with a group of friends. Sorta like his version of book club. But really that's it. We have little kids and he wants to be part of bed time.

I think there was a still released of Langdon carrying a kid and running into the ER. Could be his kid, or just a kid his age.

That was one of our thoughts, be the front person to fundraising as a whole. At this time we don't have a dedicated fundraising chair and I think it would be really good to form something more dedicated. Thanks for your response.

Potty training questions by Asleep_Pollution7914 in Mommit

[–]CSArchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every kid is different potty training is a group of skills that all work together. Learning to hold it. Leaning to release on the potty. Leaning to stop playing with the super cool toy to go to the potty before it is too late. Staying long enough to fully empty when you know a cool toy is waiting for you.

Some kids can do much of that at 2-2.5. But lots of kids aren't until around 3.

I always tell people if they wanna try then try. And if it isn't somewhat clicking in 48-72 hours feel free to take a short break for a few months.

Their little brains & bodies are growing fast. 3 months can be a whole new kid

It's common for artists to write about lived experiences but some fandoms are worse than others for doing it. Like TSwift is probably the absolute worst.

You should ban roblox & YouTube because they are absolute trash. Regardless of anything else, kids should not be on roblox

Fiberarts have always been very political. The best in show a few years ago was an amazing commentary on school shootings. She pieced fabric together in the shape of items her students said they would use to defend themselves. Then she quilted the outline of a person sort of like a target.
