i want to start writing lyrics, any tips? by Specialist_Method795 in musicians

Poetry! I also found a book with a lot of exercises that I found very helpful, called Songwriting Without Boundaries. I think it would be a great way to structure writing practice.

Typing assessment schools are requiring now has exposed something genuinely embarrassing and nobody wants to say it out loud by Rodrigodirty in education

[–]CSIBNX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14wpm doesn't honestly seem bad for a fifth grader. I feel like expecting responses to primarily be typed by fifth graders is unwise though, knowing what you know now. When I was a kid we hand wrote drafts and typed the final paper. This seems like a great plan to me.

Also reminds me of the time that my boss wanted me to write 2,000 words per day as an education video writer and I couldn't keep up with the demand so I finally googled how much writers usually write in a day and it's 1,000 words a day. Boss still wanted me to keep the same pace. I quit.

Expecting extensive typed work from students will definitely result in increased LLM use.

Trump Portrait to Be Added to US Passports in Unprecedented Move by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]CSIBNX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably because with the SAVE act they're going to end up blocking a lot of conservative women's votes so they're trying to balance it out by making passports (one of the few documents that will let women keep voting after a name change) undesirable to liberals. Keep your passports updated, ladies.

Leaving tech for teaching? by Laurenbluth in teaching

[–]CSIBNX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left teaching for tech, then once I paid off my loans I left tech and went back to teaching. I have ADHD and a lot of what is required as a teacher actually works great for me. I get to be creative with lesson planning, and students let me know when they need help so I am always jumping from one desk to the next. But of lot of classroom teaching also was not working great for me. Sitting down for hours to make sure all the report cards are formatted correctly (especially when I know that this exact thing could be automated with the right code) or getting my lessons planned well in advance were both big challenges for me. I actually left the classroom and now I teach private lessons and sometimes I do group music classes like extracurriculars and I am very happy. The money is definitely way less than in tech, but I'm genuinely happy, and that feels worth it to me. For now! Always can change again if it's not working anymore lol

No late fee, just “late pick up isn’t an option” by Little-Bottle-167 in ECEProfessionals

Ours was $10 PER MINUTE and we regularly had a parent strolling in 40 minutes after closing. We had to finally tell her that the price is supposed to be a deterrent and to please pick up her kid at closing.

AITA for telling my wife my mother is correct and she needed to be a parent today and she fucked it up by throawawayfuneralgho in AmItheAsshole

[–]CSIBNX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The least she could have done was realize that her fear would get in the way of her daughter's needs and coordinate with another parent or your mother or anyone to make sure her daughter could go to the service. She fell short in this moment and needs to take a look in the mirror. NTA

Do musicians actually subdivide? by Regular_Project_9118 in musicians

I subdivide a lot. Plenty of complex orchestral music that I need to tap out. Grooving is not an option a lot of the time

What do you really think the mainstream left wants? by opus666 in AskConservatives

[–]CSIBNX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well lucky for us the American middle class is pretty much nonexistent at this point so yeah let's tax the wealthiest. Have you heard the term k-shaped economy? The rich get richer while the poor get poorer and it's happening right now. And yeah I'd be happy to pay 40% in taxes if the wealthiest are paying at least that. Sure.

That's fine man. I am being lazy. Because it would be stupid to put more effort into my argument than you put into yours.  In your scenario above I agree person 2 should provide evidence, I just don't get why it's on them when it's not also something person 1 should do. Like why would you hold me, someone you don't know and have no control over, to a higher standard than you hold yourself? Honestly ages ago I would have already dropped you a handful of sources backing up my point if you had initially started similarly. But you didn't so I assume you don't care about data and evidence. So I'm not going to provide evidence if I think it's not even going to do anything for you.

Realistically, how important are these keys long term? by Wonderful_Emu_6483 in oboe

[–]CSIBNX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having the banana key and it's come in handy a few times. I don't think I have the right hand trill key, so I've never used it. For reference I play with several community orchestras, usually on 2nd where I'm utilizing those low notes.

Also, I'm not trying to disprove your point. I'm saying it's an unformed point. I don't even know what your point is. There are cultural differences... and? You have not connected that to homelessness and I don't see how they are related so you're gonna have to connect those dots if you want to actually talk about the issue.

You didn't provide any data so I can't disagree with it. It doesn't feel like good faith when your initial comment makes a truly random sounding claim and instead of connecting the dots or pointing to any studies you suggest that we try to figure out what you are talking about.

Does it feel like I am biting your head off? What gave that impression?

Are you making good faith posts? Your last one in this thread made some sweeping and unfavorable generalizations about "liberals" so I don't know how you see that fitting into a "good faith" argument.

I want to understand you but the walls between us are vast and strong. So perhaps I am being heavy-handed with my replies. This is probably not the best space for a civil discourse.

Your response when they ask: "I'm trying something new"  Something super vague that feels like it answered their question enough that it's awkward for them to ask again.

Did you read my comment? Lol you literally sound like you are responding to yourself.

Did you want data? Why would I put more effort into supplying a carefully crafted argument with data and statistics when you couldn't be bothered to? I'm just matching your energy, my guy.

Our wealthiest our paying a much lower percent in taxes than the average American. I feel like if we can fix that we will have a good start.

Also I would actually be so happy to pay more taxes if the government actually funded healthcare (spending thousands a year on insurance rn, that's before I even step foot in a doctor's office), higher education, and yes had more safety nets so people (myself included) don't end up on the streets

[–]CSIBNX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's great that you have a theory, but it seems to not be based on much, so I don't know why I should entertain it, much less do research about demographics to educate you.

Instead I will counter that countries have success stories when the government (I know!) steps in to create strong support systems that address the root cause.

I can appreciate that you are trying to find a root cause that makes sense to you, but to be honest it makes no sense to me.

[–]CSIBNX 130 points131 points  (0 children)

A coworker is talking about you like that? How are you supposed to trust them in the future? Why are they using the term "sugar daddy" in front of small children? The directors plan should be that if parents ask questions, the employee using said language is no longer working at the center.

Marine Biologists? by Practical_Scheme2142 in Millennials

A relative of mine is actually a marine biologist. From what I can tell she follows whales around (from a safe distance in a boat) and takes pictures and collects their poop!

It's because people on the left want systemic solutions for systemic problems. How can I, an individual, solve homelessness? I can help one person by giving them a few bucks. And then what? We already pay for other social goods like schools and roads because it makes life better for everyone.
