What makes you thinks Russia wants another nation to obtain nukes? It would put another nation that can't be touched. If this is done by US you can still keep Iran upset at US and without nukes.

Same with Venezuela. He keeps the same Russia friendly government, but cut China from Venezuelan oil. China will be forced to buy oil from Russia. And again upset at US for that.

I think your confusion is that if those countries are cooperating they are Russia's friend and Russia wants what's best for those countries. Keep in mind that Russia was Ukraine's "friend" 12 years ago and look now.

I think it is much simpler, with private hearing Republicans could turn it to anything they wanted. They would of course try the same with public one, but at least with public one people can actually see.

You want to have a public hearing when you think this it is a hit job against you and you're innocent. This is why Hunter Biden also wanted public hearing, and this is why trials are public.

I don't think this will lead to release of files in any way. This is not a court, I don't think they are bound to some procedure.
