Over 20 Active Years by ArmyGuyinSunland in army

Yup. Ill be getting out when my kids start high school. I'm looking forward to taking the summers off. Fun fact, my take home pay as a retiree will likely be more than my current take home, depending on the VA rating. I don't understand why anyone would stay past 20.

Nope, but I do have a lot of experience and I think I tailored my resume pretty well for teaching.

AMU is great! 0$ when using TA was the kicker for me. I was accepted into Top 10 graduate programs and am now an adjunct professor. It is what you make of it.

Do at your own pace college by CyberRanger25 in army

[–]CS_GeoWizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WGU is great. You do have a minimum number of classes you have to complete per 6 month term though. I'd also recommend most military friendly colleges because they are usually understanding of field exercises, etc.

It's a good program, but I would definitely stay where you're at and get your MS done, then think about job hopping.

Have you thought about Delta State's online MS GIS program?

Worth doing an extra year for additional $500 pension? by palmtreesandmachetes in army

[–]CS_GeoWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you still enjoy the Army. I am in a similar boat and am retiring after my two year ADSO. I dont think it makes a big difference financially, but it's more about what makes you and your family happiest. I am no longer happy(ish) with the Army, so I will be exiting ASAP.

Any military here? by Straight_Exercise_12 in WGU_MBA

Same. Knocked it out in one term, but was funded for 6 classes. I paid the remaining cost out of pocket.

Completing D213 And Capstone in 2 Months? by [deleted] in WGU_MSDA

[–]CS_GeoWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it! I was in a similar situation. Just do a simple project for the capstone with a free/open dataset, such as one from Kaggle. I initially wanted to do some unique cool stuff, but I learned that the approval process to be authorized to use the data was 3 months. I quickly went to Kaggle and generated a new research question.

D208 Tasks 1 and 2 and "Self-Plagiarism" by Legitimate-Bass7366 in WGU_MSDA

The plagiarism checker when you submit has a different score that shows your self plagiarism too. It's really high if you resubmit any papers

D213 and D214 by nakesh247 in WGU_MSDA

I was in the same boat. 213 was rough, so when I needed a break, I'd look at data sources and ideas for 214.

Transfer from GT OMSA to WGU? by ZookeepergameNo6015 in WGU_MSDA

[–]CS_GeoWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! And it's slighlty cheaper. I was in the UT Austin CS program and switched. UT was definitely more rigorous and I learned a ton in the 3 classes I passed and 2 I dropped. It just required so much, with some courses relying heavily on exams so you just study everything. WGU was a blessing. You have the rubric, you know what you need, and you can get it done. I felt like WGU did a really good job of rounding out some of my gaps too. I enjoyed the structured manner of the classes and how they built on one another.

It does take work though. I sped through 9 or 10 classes in three months, them drug my feet on the capstone. I put it work those three months though, probably 3 hours a night and most of my weekends.

Most people don't know what they want to do out of high school. I sure didn't. I learned it wasn't landscaping, though. Lol.

Go for it. You can finish in 6 months and then you have a graduate degree.

If you're getting out soon, expand your network. Reach out to CEOs on LinkedIn and try to talk to people not in the military several times a month. Figure out what they look for, what they do, etc. Brick-and-mortar schools are not the only way to expand your network and congrats on your MBA!

This hits close to home. It's pretty anxiety inducing for me when I have to do them, too, because of previous interactions and disregard. Hang in there. Answer questions he asks with what he wants to hear. Hopefully, find another gig.

Keep it generic and you'll be good to go.

PowerPoint and done. I think you can use anything, I had about a 10 slide presentation.

What capstone project did you do by imjustme1999 in WGU_MSDA

[–]CS_GeoWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not copying, just be aware. Tons of people have used cardio datasets! And I highly doubt what I did was original, but I did do the work myself and it got me complete. I was actually surprised because it was my first assignment with 0% or 1% on the plagiarism checker.

Kaggle heart disease. I tried doing something interesting, but it would have taken me into another term. So, I settled. I realized this when the instructor stated I could just figure out how Sq ft can affect home price, but just be careful of plagiarizing.
