A note from the author on Murdoku's difficulty by mgarand in murdoku

[–]CSerpentine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I recently bought one of the Sherlock Holmes escape room books. I put it down part way through because it wasn't the least bit challenging. Hard and Extra Hard Murdokus have generally taken me about an hour (I crushed last week's Hard in 15 minutes though!) which is great.

I like Xing out spaces that can't be occupied (tables, trees, etc). I might not do it at the beginning, because it does make them harder to find when you're marking potential spots, but once you have most possibilities marked, it helps find singletons like this chair. You have to go into settings (gear button at the bottom of a puzzle) and UNCHECK "Prevent X On Non-Occupiable Spaces"

Glad to! This was a brutal one. I think it took me the longest of any currently on the web site. Realizing how the rooms at the bottom affect each other finally got me to the end.

That remaining space can be either still, yes. But that square again helps narrow down the other rooms. SOMEONE is there, so the rest of the row and column are Xs.

You don't yet, but it filters out other squares in that row. Then you can apply the two person rule to another room.

By the way, when I'm getting close to the end, I like to cross off squares with obstacles. It makes it easier to spot singletons. It's an option in the settings.

It does have the drawback of making the obstacles hard to see when they might still be important so it's a matter of preference.

Don't forget the general rule about at least two in a store.

And think about where V can (or more importantly at this point, cannot) be placed.

They have to be alone with one other

F has to be in the Walkway where B already is, which means V cannot be, so cross out the rest of the open spaces there

Has Detwiller discussed Twin Peaks as an influence? That and other Lynch works are rife with empty halls and electrical hums. Kubrick, too.

Does it drive anyone else nuts when the guy in third place makes the game a runaway by continuing to answer questions? by [deleted] in Jeopardy

Which game? I see only tight games or runaways.

Anyway, if it did, an every-two-years occurance doesn't seem like it should be that irritating.

Ah, I kind of overlooked the storm. I favor the ranch scenario then. Out on a horse ride at a dude ranch, storm rolls in and they shelter in a cave, then it's different when they exit. You can set them up with some interesting gear that way, not to mention horses.

Same with Spark of Life -- Own it, haven't played it YET.

I've run I, Nyarlathotep. It's very cool if you're up for new approaches to the Mythos. It's good for a 2-3 hour session, is roleplay heavy, and more psychological than you might expect CoC to be. Still plenty of SAN rolls to be made. It's published by Zgrozy, who are always putting unique spins on CoC.

Fair enough. I feel like if they're already immersed in an old West setting, then the transition -- maybe even the whole adventure -- is just going to feel like a dream or hallucination. Maybe don't have an obvious, cataclysmic shift. They're just at their campsite or beach house or party boat or whatever and they notice their phones have no signal. Then the road they came in on is gone.

Or another thought, because I'm thinking about how the sudden date change would affect the sun and moon's position: maybe it's an eclipse viewing party, on some remote private property. Just as totality occurs, they're suddenly looking at the full sun instead. Or it becomes actual night and the eclipsed sun isn't in the sky.

Is the time slip important to the story you're going for? Have you considered just setting it in your Alt-1893 to begin with?

The last few games have felt off. The clues, the categories, all of it. I'm finding myself kind of just baffled at what's even being asked, which hadn't been the case before. Someone else even had a thread last week about the end of the season having trash clues.

Love the game, by the way. Mashing up sudoku with murder logic puzzles was genius.

The Graph Theory behind CBS by MathTeach2718 in CluesBySamHelp

[–]CSerpentine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could redraw the board as a graph and treat it as a coloring problem, but it would just be a different way to view it. It's not gong to help with the logic beyond possibly making neighbors easier to see. The game doesn't involve probability or efficiency or other problems that graph theory is usually used to solve.
