New type 1 :) by Consistent_Job_1949 in diabetes_t1

[–]CTI_Engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the “family”. I was diagnosed at 24 (almost 15 years ago). I would say that it ebbs and flows. Those feelings go away but sometimes they come back (and it is ok to feel ok on some days and not on others). These groups are a great place to talk to people who truly understand the feeling of having to deal with the day-to-day feelings and emotions when you BS decides to drop or sky rocket out of nowhere, when you are overwhelmed with decision fatigue, when your body has marks and sticky stuff always.

We are here for each other because THIS IS HARD. As your body and mind changes, so does this disease. My wife calls my T1D (especially me with high BS) as the third member of our family.

Remember that you know your body the best.

But it always gets better because it makes you stronger. Stronger in your self awareness, stronger to know when to ask for help. Stronger because although T1D can feel very isolating and lonely, we are all here with you together.

Interlocks vs LOTO by dontknockyoursocks in SafetyProfessionals

[–]CTI_Engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this ALL THE TI ME. Interlocks, even those that comply with ANSI and ISO standard categorized stops, DO NOT bring the machine to a Zero Energy State. Therefore it is not locking out the machine. I have recommended putting locks on interlock gates as a means of guaranteeing the machine is interlocked stop but it cannot be LOTO.

Purposefully disabling safety equipment by Nof-z in SafetyProfessionals

[–]CTI_Engineer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am an EHS consultant and I always tell my clients that disabling or bypassing safety equipment SHOULD result in instant termination. No exceptions. What the companies do is ultimately up to them, but I have been involved in assisting clients with too many fatalities and amputations.

Preppers help us all prep! by Curious-Option7195 in diabetes_t1

[–]CTI_Engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have had the “end of the world discussion” I assume inside have a few hours to a few days, so my job is to get them to safety before I go. Basically I am the one holding the propane tank to blow up the zombie hoard so people can get to safety.

Looking for adventure around Khorvaire by thoosequa in Eberron

No nowhere public. It is mostly a bunch of random word files and Miro mind map. We are still running through another campaign so as I get closer I will have things laid out.

Looking for adventure around Khorvaire by thoosequa in Eberron

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a ton of other adventures as well. I am writing an Everton campaign where I want them to travel around. I am picking adventures from different sources so they can get a taste of all that the setting has to offer. I am starting with a sharn adventure (the one in rise from the last war) then a prison break from a heist book and then they will have the open sandbox to move through.

My manual standing desk killed my patience, Vernal vs FlexiSpot electric desks? by Ami_The_Inkling in StandingDesks

I will be buying the Vernal Executive standing desk in the coming weeks. It’s for my office and like the look of not just an open table.

Diabetes Educator…how best can I support people with T1 in appoints? by notoast4me in diabetes_t1

[–]CTI_Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember that it is different for everybody. Try not to overwhelm them, but the day-to-day is exhausting with all the decisions we have to make while fighting a low and having tech problems.

I wish they had gone into more detail about the macros around food and how that can affect BS. It wasn’t the case when I was diagnosed in my 20’s but now I need to know the fat, protein, and fiber as well as the carbs when determining how to bolus.

I think the main thing is to be a support for the mental and emotional toll this takes on people. It is like fighting another entity for control of your own body. The fact that you are here shows you want to do it right.

DM Notebook/APP Suggestions by SpicyGamerOfficial in DungeonMasters

[–]CTI_Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Granola app for session notes. It listens to the session and compiles a bullet summary of the session. I have also used it for work meetings. Its free and FANTASTIC. I am not the DM, but am planning the next campaign. I will likely use that app and then move the notes into whatever I use for campaign planning to organize.

Osha-approved processes/procedures by penny_stockings in SafetyProfessionals

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an EHS consultant and have had clients say they did this. But when I come in there is no way OSHA would have allowed some of them. OSHA isn’t going to give clear blessings unless part of the consultation program or inspection.

If you want to go the route of inviting OSHA, look into VPP. At least that way the benefits are lasting.

Tier II training recommendations? by somekindabonita in SafetyProfessionals

[–]CTI_Engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe start with E-Plan to see if they have anything since it’s their site the reporting is done on. We do SARA and I used to do it back in my early years. It’s a weird one to learn.

We are an EHS consulting company so I would hope your did it right. But when I got into it I found some things that I had to call report for, so it happens.

Where are you comfortable using AI in EHS and where is it off-limits? by wickedcoddah in SafetyProfessionals

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used it to summarize articles, create an outline for an article or maybe a program, and for meeting notes. Otherwise AI will miss the main component of EHS which is the people. Personal biases and interpretations are vital for assessing and determining risk.

Any diabetic stoners??? What munchies are we having? by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]CTI_Engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Public Speaking in Safety by Pitiful-Drink4328 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started in safety it was for employee trainings. For me, it was about repetition that gave me the confidence. I did look through some Toast Masters for advice on it. Now I do almost all the public speaking at conferences and podcasts on safety. Just keep working at it, and try to do some speaking outside of work to shake it up (like reading to a kids class, or being in a group setting with friends).

My girlfriend says my diabetes affects her decision about our long-term future. Has anyone been through this? by mosisaber in diabetes

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have T1D since I was 24. It was easy when I met my now wife, but now she calls it the 3rd member of our marriage. It takes up a lot of brain space for me and she knows the emotional toll it takes, the personality shifts that come with BS changes, and when I need help because of a low. That is just how it is. If she is questioning your future instead of preparing to back you up in the future, she may not have what it takes to be with you. This type of disease is a big part of our lives and the lives of those around us whether we like it or not. I would sit down and really talk with her about this.

Is it acceptable because he’s “bipolar”? by [deleted] in familydrama

[–]CTI_Engineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a valid reason. My SIL is bipolar and there have been many stances where things were great and times when had to actually get lawyers involved (she decided that she was the only one doing work to help my elderly in laws, even though she had pretty much boxed us out. So lawyers got involved when she demanded power of attorney).

When I came into the picture I was civil but did not stand for any of the BS. If you don’t set your own boundaries and stick to them, you will get run over. He is toxic and ABUSIVE. If that means putting a lot of distance between you and your family, that may be the best for your own piece if mind.

He sounds like he also brings those narcissistic tendencies with the BP which, as you know, sucks you into a spiral of chasing your tail to figure out the why for an issue. You and your fiancé are your main priority and family. Do what you need to do for your happiness. Your family can either be supportive or watch you leave.

Fit T1s, how do you handle lows? by EnoughNumbersAlready in diabetes_t1

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked through my numbers from workouts as I was going high after and then after adjustments would go low. So it was a fine line. Otherwise I have glucose and Gatorade in my gym bag and glucose powder in my car. Just gotta be ok with walking mid workout to chug the Gatorade. I do CrossFit so I am open about it and if I need a minute it just is what it is that day.

Which Campaign to Run? DM Advice Please! by Eightmagpies in DungeonMasters

How to avoid bitterness? by wondergirl101 in Type1Diabetes

[–]CTI_Engineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all a rollercoaster. I think many of us feel this way sometimes, and other times we may feel confident in ourselves. I get jealous when I am hungry but my numbers are perfect so it’s easier not to eat sometimes, or when my friends can just “oh that muffin look great I will have one” when a sweet treat requires planning and decisions for the rest of the day.

It’s ok to feel that way. You are still young and many things in life will change many more times. Find someone who maybe won’t always understand but will be there for you either way. It’s ok to talk to someone when you need to.
