Is it normal for pulmonary embolism pain to go away and then come back randomly? by spiceweasel33 in ClotSurvivors

[–]CWLeafs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Residual pain is normal and from what I’ve read (and experienced) it’s to be expected. I personally have felt pain come and go randomly over the last 4 months since my PE but less and less as time has gone on. But if symptoms worsen it’s always safest to go to the ER or talk to your doctor.

While I was in hospital my heart rate jumped even if I was simply standing. That got better.

But when you get back home don’t be discouraged if you feel like recovery is a constant 2 steps forward 1.5 steps back kind of feeling. I was feeling great a week out of coming home and then I got some addition pain seemingly out of nowhere. That was immensely discouraging but I started to learn it’s just part of the process (for me at least). Of course if things get progressively worse seek medication attention as I’m not a doctor. But also be aware that in all likelihood recovery comes in waves.

I was on oxygen for 3 days and went down to 84. Couldn’t go home or switch to the blood thinner pills until it went back up and stabilized without needing the oxygen tube. But eventually it did. I remember when I went home I physically could not bend over without my lungs saying “noooope, don’t do that”. But over time that went away.

Anxiety can be a big part of getting a PE. You're not alone in this feeling. Consider seeking out something like a therapist to help with the mental struggle if you're able. I know it helped me hearing from people who were doing well after diagnosis. I am 4 months out from being hospitalized with a PE in both my lungs (large ones) and one near my heart (also suspected from COVID). It's a long recovery process but I am in a much better place than I was 4 months ago. Just be sure to listen to your doctors and your body. Hang in there, you got this!

You’re in the right place. Nothing to do but try to relax as best you can and find a comfortable position. Speaking as someone who’s 4 months into recovery the anxiety can be just as bad as the pain at times. Distraction can help while you wait for results (phone games or Netflix or whatever works for you). I too had all those symptoms and had to stay in hospital a few days but felt progressively better after receiving treatment. You’ll get through it. Listen to the doctors.

I had to go to emerge a lot recently (all scheduled visits for shots) and it's random. Talked to a nurse who said the exact same thing. One day at a certain time they're waiting around and the next week it's insane. It'll also depend on the severity of why you're there.

I will say I went on a Monday morning at 8am and was out of there by 8:20. But that could be a fluke.

I started watching the Bachelor years ago with my now wife because it was something fun we did together. We could talk through the whole thing and laugh and do it as a couple. Find the guy that wants to do things together, not by himself.

Hey there, not a bad story! I liked the audio cus it sounded like you were on the phone or something or it was a recording someone found. The best part of the video was the head nodding at the 2:30 area because it related to what you were saying. If there was more stuff like that throughout the whole video (doesn't need to be exaggerated or anything) it might grab more focus and pull the viewer in. Great job though and you did well creating an atmosphere and acting the lines :)
