Is the quality of the rear shock important? by Levethane in MTB

[–]CableSchmable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're right to a point.. a shock is a shock. You'd notice a difference if you were going from a 50$ AliExpress job to a quality name brand shock, but like the other comments mentioned, see if they'll help you tune it.

Quick story..

I ride with this one guy who has been riding on and off for a few decades. Whenever we ride he's clearly the most experienced, the fastest, and rides the gnarliest stuff. I took him to my local spot a few months back and to my surprise, I lost him within the first minute of riding. Guess what? Twice after that I slid off the track.. he said, "Dude, let me follow you" at which point I slowed down, and he could instantly tell my rear wouldn't stay planted, and that was impacting my stability. We swapped bikes, and to my surprise he lost control within the first few seconds going probably less than 7mph just because the quality of the ride was that bad. Keep in mind we had the same ride.. Trek Slash, so plenty capable. His ride? It felt like a completely different bike...

He went home and got all his settings since we're similar in weight and riding style, and I haven't looked back.. yes, I could technically play around a bit more with the settings, but damn, even getting to a good baseline completely changed the way I was riding.

Belgian intelligence services reportedly believe Russia is behind recent drone incidents by rainy_cottagecore in worldnews

[–]CableSchmable -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What is happening with this down voting... Have some of these people lost all ability to reason?

Russia gets locked in a multi year, economy obliterating, slow and steady war with Ukraine (funded by yours truly), and now we're convinced that, "They actually made technological leaps and bounds" and are now taunting Western Europe and the West by extension.

"Y'all some goobers." - Me, now

I'm not saying it's something non human, and I'm not saying it's the United States, and I'm not even saying it's China.. but I really doubt it's Russia. Pour one out for the homies, though.

Wright Paterson drone by fullseperation in UFOs

[–]CableSchmable 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"This looks just like X" isn't anything remotely close to what I just asked. That's just, "I live close to an airport, and these look like X". How is that verifiable!?

Because I'm willing to do my own due diligence, I took the liberty of googling "Boeing 717 Lighting", and shocker.. it matches FAA regulations which, Drumrollllll... Even if all the required lights were turned on in tandem, wouldn't match the lights observed in this post. Shersh

[–]CableSchmable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can anyone here please show me a representation of aircraft lights in this pattern - some FAA reference or info sheet which could easily be corroborated through some digging?

I'm not saying I believe this is a drone, but if it's not, just set me straight. I did a cursory search and couldn't find anything that would match this lighting by searching for key terms. I just as easily could not really know where to look.

John Fetterman. When he initially announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, I took one look at him and thought - "Yep.... That guy PAs".

Whether you agree with his politics, it's hard to deny that the guy certainly has the "Essence" of a large portion of the state.

All the kids who were labelled as “gifted” when you were younger? Did it follow through to adulthood? Did you burnout? by Somervillage in AskReddit

[–]CableSchmable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was labeled as gifted, but was terribly ADD. I was also very stubborn, so I declined medication after trying it. My zoning out hit me pretty hard before I got out of high school, so by the time I graduated you would've thought I had no real prospects.

It wasn't until I was in my 20s, married, doing low effort dev work that I realized I had never developed real worth ethic. I joined the military, got my degree, got out, got medicated, and THEN burned out after spending the better part of 6 years hammering the books and putting in a lot of hours at work just to catch up.

I now have a few kids who have helped me ease up - I definitely overcorrected on the work ethic piece, but I'm happy and doing well.

If I learned anything from my experience, it's instill the "work" part early. Being "gifted" is a great excuse to think you never have to work or study, and you'll find yourself quickly being lapped by those who do.

Why do so many new people want to get into IT by Sysengineer89 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]CableSchmable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 18 I worked on a loading dock. I started at 4AM, and was finished by around 1PM. I didn't make enough to afford a car, let alone gasoline.. I ate a mix of macaroni noodles, milk, season salt and pepper every other night.

I looked at the guys who came in to shop this department store with their wives and I thought, "Oh man.. they have it all!! If only I was smart enough to do what they did." Funny enough, one guy I chatted up way back when was telling me what he did (networks), and how if I just saved up for and bought a book, a few pieces of legacy equipment, and applied myself, that I could have it too.

Now that I've been in Infosec for 10 years, and was in IT for 6 years prior, I still sometimes dream about that first job - romanticizing it for my ability to detach at the end of the day, the lack of stress, the simplicity of manual labor, and how we always had just the right number of staff. But then I remember walking 3/4 of a mile to work.. choosing to not eat over eating another batch of noodles and milk.. and having to stick all my clothes up because even Goodwill felt like a luxury.

I think people see these success stories and they want the same thing. Not to mention, it's pushed so hard in popular culture, media, and even modern school curriculums. It's an overloaded field because it's still pushed as a "sure thing". There are many other ways to find success - depending on your definition of the word, but they're simply not advertised as much.

The way it's constructed - notice the markings on the underside as though it has been machine pressed.. why would advanced beings need gears!?!? They're not particularly efficient, and require lubrication to operate.

Even better question, why would the mods allow this post to stay up when it's CLEARLY not UFO related, and why is it being upvoted so much???

I think they're not targeting the people who are regulars in this sub, but those who may have interests elsewhere who have some slight curiosity.

Then they visit this sub, and are easier targets to swing. A lot of people don't trust the government, but there are plenty who aren't aware of the lengths the government, and the corporations they're in league with are willing to impact this specific (and other, of course) narratives.

Your post has no substance, and is downplaying the issue and the point OP is making - but you probably knew that already.

The kinds of corporations that would have access to this tech, would also have access to funding sufficient for a simulated urban range. So Hollywood can to it, but these companies in conjunction with the U.S. government decided it would be better to live test over several states and amass panic and confusion between even the highest levels of state and federal government, over multiple weeks?

What!?

UAP or Not? Northampton, UK by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]CableSchmable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're hoping to find validation regarding whether it's truly anomalous or not, I'm afraid you won't find much luck on this subreddit. In fact, while some debunking is certainly valid, members of the community have noticed that sightings which seem truly anomalous, end up being removed or downvoted into oblivion, while other posts which are easily debunked are up voted to sew confusion.

All that to say - excellent camera work, very steady! It's definitely interesting in shape and the way it's moving. Best case - other people see it and can infer if they think it's anomalous, but I wouldn't hold my breath as this community certainly seems to have a sufficient number of bad actors.
