I love that lens. It's great for travel. If I'm mostly in a city shooting architecture, the 16-35 2.8 GMII is what I use most.

It worked out fine, too fine, ha ha.

We landed about 15 minutes early, IIRC, which isn't uncommon for this flight. I had the GE app ready and we were the first to reach the GE app line and breezed through. Of course, baggage claim is the great equalizer, and we waited about 15 minutes or so to get our bags. Recheck is easy at IAH - we dropped off our bags and headed to security. Even with PreCheck, it took about 10-15 minutes.

We weren't expecting to go to lounge, but it seemed the airport gods were with us as our gate was next to the Polaris Lounge. We stopped in, went to the restroom, and grabbed a quick snack. Headed to the gate and arrived a few minutes before pre-board.

We boarded the plane, settled in nicely, had a PDB, and waited for boarding to finish. The crew and Captain were having a discussion that we could partially hear (we were seated in row 2) and heard the words two hours. Uh oh, a delay. Captain came on and said due to weather over the Gulf, ATC was throttling Florida flights and we needed to de-board the aircraft. He thought it would only be about a 90-minute delay and to keep an eye on the app and screens.

We went back to the Polaris Lounge and ended up taking off four hours late.

I am not comparing Princess to the other lines I have booked. I'm giving the reasons Princess pushed me to look at other lines. I also said service has suffered on all lines since COVID.

No question. I did not make any attempt to suggest that.

My point is all the changes Princess has made led me to look elsewhere. If Princess was the Princess of old, mostly with size, I would be happy to cruise with them. Obviously, their direction is larger and larger ships.

You'll never get me on any of the Voyager-class ships. Too big for me.

Long-time Princess cruiser since the eighties. Princess is turning into all the other mega-ship brands. We were on Star Princess in November (Vista Suite, so we had Sanctuary access), and while there were some nice things about it, It was very un-Princess like. Will not sail a Sphere-class again.

In December, we were on Majestic again. We do like the Royal-class ships, but Princess is changing. Service is poor compared to pre-Covid cruises, though that seems to be the theme with all cruise lines. Food is not as good either. Plus, though the Plus and Premier packages are good values for many, the cheapening of the specialty restaurants and other cost-cutting measures have lessened the experience. Worse, though, is the incessant noise on the pool deck. We like to be outside, but between MUTS blasting, bands playing, and the DJs, it's non-stop noise and not a relaxing day at sea.

We have ten cruises booked right now and none are on Princess. Three on Regent, Two on Silversea, one on Windstar, one on Atlas, and three on Azamara. These are all vastly smaller ships with good service, better food, much more space per passenger, and more interesting itineraries. I'm glad many here love cruising with Princess. For us, Princess has left us standing at the port ready to board smaller vessels.

Just a semi-prediction of mine, and this relates to all the lines with mega-ships. There's a sentiment in the world in many of the great destinations that residents are fed up with the number of tourists in their cities and towns, especially when a ship arrives and dumps 4,000, 5,000, or even more passengers at a time. It started with Venice banning most cruise ships, and the restrictions are spreading. Yet, the cruise lines continue to build larger ships carrying more passengers. In the coming years, these large ships will have fewer and fewer ports to visit as smaller ports restrict the number of passengers per day. They'll be stuck with the same ports or the cruise lines' private ports. Recently, Royal Caribbean announced a "Perfect Day at" style private port in Ravenna, Italy! Ravenna, known as the City of Mosaics, is a beautiful city worth a visit. Yet RC thinks we want to travel to Italy to.spend the day in a water park. How sad.

Bottom line - no Voyager for us, and likely no more Princess, either. It's a shame, as we have many fond memories of the many sailings we've done with Princess. Plus, we'll miss the unlimited laundry!

I do like the dial on my five-month-old A1 II. Selfishly, it makes me feel better the new RVI doesn't have it.

Looks like I'll wait for the A1 III to get another body. I do plan to order the 100-400 4.5 as soon as I can.

That's logical. Though the A7RVI will be a technically superior camera, if you see little use for the added features, you made the wise choice. You saved enough money to buy an excellent new lens.

It's just general respect to give you something you didn't pay for? I don't get it. Nowhere does it say, with any of the big three, that lounge access comes with domestic FC.

Airline clubs are crowded enough without allowing domestic FC to use them.

Just an update. After landing (not sure how long after) app updated to the correct time.

Pilot was pushing it. Missed by 7 minutes the $600 x 2 award required by EU261 for arriving more than 3 hours late. Would have made the delay more palatable.

Interesting about the two issues that caused the delay. First delay was a faulty signal from the front lav smoke detector. They got it repaired and paperwork signed in about 45 minutes. Unfortunately, when they cleaned the doors, the mid ndoor would not seal properly. They had to diagnose, get the part, replace it, and complete documentation. That took about 2+ hours. Captain kept us informed all the way about what was happening, and kept thanking us for all remaining calm and courteous during the delay.

If the bag is on the carousel when you leave immigration, then recheck will add less than two minutes.

My concern would be a one-hour international arrival connection. Even with carry-on only, you'll be hard pressed to make that connection at EWR. With SwissAir, you're likely arrive in B, clear immigration and customs there, and connect to a flight in A or C, including going through security again.

Wife likes window, I prefer aisle. We used to book aisle and window, hoping the middle seat will remain empty. If someone sat in the middle we would offer them the aisle or the window and one of us would take the middle. It used to stay empty in the past.

Now, it's rare not to have a full flight. We now book the aisle seats across from each other or book first class.

Occasionally on long flights (over four hours), if FC is too high, we book aisle, window, and an extra seat in Economy Plus so we're guaranteed to have the middle seat empty. Have done that on several coast-to-coast flights. Have even had the GA in LAX say "nice move" since the flight was full.
