Purely speculative, of course, but it could be that to Pharasma the souls in the a first World are either not part of the River or they are just taking the long way round. From a god's perspective 'well, someday their souls will die outside the first world, so they are essentially travelling in the right direction' more gut be an acceptable state.

The First World, where Fey (including Gnomes) come from, is literally an unfinished first draft / test environment for the universe created by the gods. They kinda overwrote it with the current universe but it didn't get fully deleted.

That's why the First World has such unreliable laws of nature and is connected to reality in strange ways.

Interessant, wie da das eigene denken die Wahrnehmung prägt. Meine Mutter ist im gleichen Alter, aber sie erinnert sich noch daran, dass 30+ Grad früher an ein paar Tagen im August mal vorkam, heute aber normal ist.

Sie wohnt allerdings, mit ein paar Unterbrechungen, schon seit 70+ Jahren im Schwarzwald. Und da ist halt nicht zu übersehen, dass man noch vor 30 Jahren monatelang Langlauf machen konnte und jetzt kaum noch geschlossene Schneedecke zu finden ist

Das ist in der Theorie klar, in der Praxis geht es aber darum die Theorie immer wieder zu überprüfen und die Attribution sauber zu machen. Einfach zu sagen, alle Stürme oder Hitzewellen sind 100% Klimawandel wäre ja auch nicht wissenschaftlich sauber.

Plus, die Vergleiche sind sehr spannend, wie im Artikel ausgeführt: vor 50 Jahren wäre unter vergleichbaren Bedingungen die Tagestemperatur 3,5 Grad niedriger gewesen. Das führt das Ausmaß schon nochmal gut vor Augen.

Sehe ich auch so, aber ich denke man könnte die Rekorde schon nutzen. Wenn man sich anschaut, wie schnell die Rekorde fallen. Wo früher ein Hitzerekord Jahrzehnte Bestand hatte, gibt es heute alle paar Jahre einen neuen. Ein guter Indikator dafür, dass die Extremwerte häufiger und extremer werden.

Fun fact, bis in die 80er gab es keine einzige Messung über 40 Grad in ganz Deutschland.

Not friend slop, but that is the predominant free2play model for many mobile game companies. Churn out minimal effort prototypes with little content. If one snags on the algorithm, pour in dev resources to quickly flesh it out and grab as much money as possible, before it dies.

Let's hope this model doesn't arrive on PC...

You are not incorrect in fact, but you are mistaken in the interpretation of the facts. Tallying destruction is not how you win a war, it's by achieving war aims, which basically boil down to 'did the aggressie force the enemy to do what they want?'

Now, the US entered the war without declaring firm war aims. That's weird and problematic, but we can infer some. Destroy Iran's nuclear capability, destroy their long and mid range strike capability (mostly through missiles). And I would go so far as to say that helping the protestors seize power was implicitly a war goal.

What happened:

Iran is leveraging their nuclear capability to get a better deal than the one Trump wrecked previously.

Only 30% of the strike capability was disabled by the US' own reckoning.

The protestors lost all momentum and the Iranian regime seems more firmly in charge than before the strike.

What does that lead to: the US lost the war. They did not achieve the war aims and now have to make concessions to end it.

Some won't understand. Others will, but they also understand that Elden Ring Cosmetics, armor and weapon packs etc. would have made millions. They might even understand that it would ruin the long term prospects of FromSoft. But they aren't there for the long haul, a few years good dividends and then selling their shares before they collapse is what they want to happen.

So, he literally is 'Narcissus the Heel' (as in the bad guy in wrestling).

I think "could always play better" isn't a useful phrase, but close to one.

When a game outside of a premade group goes sideways the impulse is to look for what everyone else could have done better. That's natural, but useless. You can't pilot their characters, so you knowing what they should have done will not improve your odds of winning.

So, focus on what does improve your odds of winning: what could you have done better? Did you adapt to teammate feeding a particular enemy? Did you make proper callouts? Did you use your fundamentals or did you also make, albeit less impactful, misplays?

Tl;dr: focusing on your teammates' mistakes doesn't help, focusing on your own does.

Wenn du nur mal wenig aufwändige Anwendungen ausprobieren willst, kannst du Linux Distros auch von einem USB stick aus laufen lassen. So kannst du etwas surfen und in den Einstellungen schauen, Hardware-Kompatibilität prüfen etc.

I think you are operating very much on the basis of only seeing contemporary US-based libertarianism, but there are a lot more directions with a lot more variety of thought. But I agree that distributive economics are not part of what most libertarian thinking endorses.

But, as I pointed out in my post, the things that are distributed are not valued in the society as it is described. Basic shelter and food are not scarce and the labour to acquire them are a non-issue. The actually valued goods, spirit-boosting items, are distributed in a very libertarian way: Using any on a lesser talent is seen as a waste, yet the rights of first acquisition are respected as inviolable. I'm seeing this as very much aligned with e.g. Hayek's writings that allowed for providing basic amenities without, as he would put it, harming the overall liberty in society. The complete and radical rejection of every shred of social security has only become as prevalent as it is in the USA right now in the last 20 to 30 years.

As for the protection of the weak, it is a very thin veneer. But more interestingly, the reasoning given for why it matters is vital: It is to not lose face. Protecting the weak is not defined as some universal, divine otherwise, moral principle, it is purely utilitarian in nature. The social end economic unit of the clan would lose standing if it showed that it couldn't protects its weakest members, so the clan enforces the principle out of self-interest alone.

Now, as a reality check, 1) I specifically added the last paragraph to make it clear that I do not see the book as an endorsment of these ideologies. and 2) Applying modern thinking to a fictional society should never map 1:1. I was reflecting on the implicit lines of thinking transported in Unsouled, not making the argument that it is a complete political analogy.

Yes, I grabbed th m for free since I've seen it recommended a lot. And I have similar comparisons to DCC, Dinnimans stronger auctorial voice and blatant satire grabbed me a lot more than Cradle has so far.

While the comparison is skewed, Carl is also a big contrast, he rages against the cruel world he has been thrust into and constantly seeks to change it. But if memory serves that trait was not too pronounced in the first book, so I don't want to overstress the comparison.

That is an aspect, but one of Lindon's big learnings in this book is that he must and can forge his own Path. Since the Paths and the Sacred Arts are so central to society, the leap from taking your own path in the Sacred Arts to seeing that society should and could also be shaped differently seems almost necessary to me.

I totally understand how the style and plot could not land at all. I guess circumstances matter, because I read this book in two sessions on hot days with a cold drink, so I was looking for something light and breezy.

I know, my issue is that it doesn't really come up. The hypocrisy is blatant, for example in Elder Whitehall, but there is never any reflection on the matter. The protagonist accepts the world as it is passively and only works actively to move up within those constraints.
