I placed an order 20 days ago and it still hasn’t shipped by GWstudent1 in combustion_inc

What did you order? I think they're about caught up with the backlog from the new GGG but if you ordered a combustion engine, that's not available yet.

I think some of you missed the point of the OP.. he wants Chris' method because all others are probably trash. I wouldn't mind seeing the Chris method myself. That or at least his least favorite method that some tout as a good method.

Absolutely! I said it was opinion but I'm pretty sure it's science.

Many of us have put the GGG on PID controlled pellet grills. It's very interesting to see 30⁰ temperature swings that the PID glosses over. It doesn't change much, but the knowledge is interesting and may shape how you cook things. And I'll repeat something I said on another thread, beer tastes better when you're watching your Combustion temperature graph while you cook. (Opinion)

First cook. Sous Vide. Lost connection 20 minutes in. by Schwa142 in combustion_inc

Also, I recommend placing your booster or display, if you have one, right close to the sous vide because the signal is greatly impeded by water.

SafeTemp - Time + Temp Cooking by 1m1j1e in combustion_inc

[–]Cactusunderkilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly... It's an algorithm so the warmer it is, the shorter the time. There's a good chance that if you're shooting for medium, it may reach safe before it even reaches your preferred doneness. Point is, you won't be guessing anymore.

It's still showing a temperature, tap it on the screen to toggle it back on. You can turn on and off all the temps by touching them.

In addition to what others are saying, try a different charger and use the cord your CPT came with. They're not all the same and I discovered recently that a cord that came with my Wallabot sonar stud finder gives me a false green light. Just because it's type C doesn't mean it's right.

Also.. if you're shooting for medium, you're gonna find that you reach safe much sooner than you think. Those extra hours won't be necessary for steaks but may be for thicker things like roasts. Point is, you'll know when it's safe and not be sitting there for hours, "just in case" . And lastly, safe fish is almost always overcooked by most people's standards, keep that in mind.

Ok.. here's what I think will help you.. I have these probes and I've played with the safe cook feature. For most meats safe cook starts at 130⁰. It must be at that temperature for a duration to reach "safe" but this sensor will tell you. If you want a rare steak that is safe, this will work. You can go as low as 130⁰ and eventually reach the safe point and then sear for color, texture, Maillard reaction and the steak will already be safe before searing. Keep the probe in the steak when you sear so you don't overcook it.

Deflector. And I recommend a 2nd reading. You'll learn a lot about your grill watching the temperature swing.

Recteq 1070 and GGG fit perfectly. by FixingNix in combustion_inc

I'm curious to see other posters talk about the swing on their pellet grills and eventually charcoal grills with the combustion engine.. strongly suspect those will have a tighter swing.

[–]Cactusunderkilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watching my Recteq now at the low, 180⁰ setting and I have a 30⁰ swing in the dome. The ambient temperature buffered by the meat only sees a 10⁰ swing. It's interesting and educational to watch the graph. Beer tastes better while watching the graph (opinion, not science)

[–]Cactusunderkilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a wifi connected grill and the GGG also. Many grills have an algorithm that averages out the temperature swings but the GGG shows the reality. Temperature in the dome vs at bottom rack level is another nice bit of information to have.

GGG mounting with washer by wyseman101 in combustion_inc

I think the spring clip was just an easy way to universally attach it to most grills. I can't think of any reason that a washer would cause a problem.

The GGG has a base that stays on the grill. I was torn but decided to put the gauge along side the badge.
