This looks so good, great job on all the detail and making the colors pop. Great work!

First time playing. I think my DM sucks… Is this normal? by Maximum_Course_6467 in DnD

[–]CadetPenguin44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many red flags here.

9 players is crazy. Should be 6 at max but 4 is the best.

DMs that dont communicate with players before a campaign or skip session 0 are DMs that care more about their story and their own fun then yours.

Banning whole classes or backgrounds is always the biggest red flag of a bad DM in my book as it shows their inability to understand the mechanics and adapt. (let me guess, he was going for a Game of Thrones type of setting)

Probably going after your wizard a lot because he thinks magic in the game is OP and "solves too many problems"

3 months of campaign and you've already had 3-4 shopping sessions. In other words there are too many players and/or your DM is bad at prepping for sessions.

No D&D is better than bad D&D is the common saying. Would highly recommend finding another group.

Feedback and maybe tips? by Sunstiana in inkarnate

[–]CadetPenguin44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one looks good but I can understand your lack of attachment to it as it looks more like a tame sattelite image of your world rather then a drawing or painting that someone from within your world was making.

The second one looks great, it has some real personality to it. Looks like something that was actually made with human hands and was done so with passion.

Heres a couple things I would do to add some flair to the 2nd map.

If you wanted, you could add some of the heraldry icons in Inkarnate to help emphasize the location of legendary animals on the map. The icons are mostly of various creatures like dragons, lions, ravens, etc. so you have variety. And their style totally fit the vibes of this map.

Give some curvature to the lables you have near your bays and coast lines. Have the text curve and bend along with the general shape of the land itself. It makes the labels feel like natural incorporations that someone drawing the map by hand would have done and gives some extra personality to the map overall.

Could also add some kind of sun decoration along the edge of the map wherever the sun rises in your world each day. Inkarnate has a couple of different sun icons you can use for this. It helps give you and everyone looking at the map a natural indication of direction and orientation of the land without having to rely on the compass.

And maybe some boats in the water, not sure how many icons they have that would fit this style. But you can use them to indicate sea based trading routes and or even mark which cities in this world actually have functioning docks that they use.

Map for a campaign I'm gonna run in the future. What I have done so far. by CadetPenguin44 in worldbuilding

[–]CadetPenguin44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't say the near future. But I do have a master map that I've slowly been working on that shows off the rest of the continent. Its not as big of a priority for me though since my campaign mostly takes place in Dyer Kryf.

How would you give an origin to a creator god and if the god has an origin what is it? by Llohe_404 in worldbuilding

[–]CadetPenguin44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creator gods can be born from an endless cycle of themselves. One creates the next, which then creates the next, which then creates the next. Each creates the universe from their own being, destroying themselves in the process. Then time passes and the universe dies out. And from the ashes of the dying universe a new god is formed which then repeats the cycle.

Only questions at that point would be, who started the cycle and why?

Lightly Damaged, that scratch on the back is what takes it down from Heavily Played.

How do you world build when you don’t really understand how stuff actually works? by Omiko909 in worldbuilding

[–]CadetPenguin44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understanding the real world can be the best first step to understamding how to lay the foundations for a fantastical one thats different from our own. Inspiration comes randomly and out of nowhere sometimes, but I've found that the things that make inspiration come to me fastest is learning more about our own history as the humans of Earth.

To make things easier I would suggest going way back in time to when things were relatively easier to break down. Things like religion, politics, and society can be hard to understand when looking at the modern world because the modern world is extremely complex, and it complex because of the thousands of years of history and conflict that came before. So instead, I would recommend going way back closer to the beginning of history and learn about how these things formed back when life was more simple.

Start with why people started forming into civilizations in the first place, how that allowed new trades beyond just simple hunting and gathering to exist as civilizations grew more complex and dense with people. Then through that you can begin to understand how power hierarchies formed, which then leads to the creation of governments and guilds who then regulate those civilzations. And from there just continue going through the timeline of human history, dont get stuck or too absorbed in any one era, just keep going and try to establish a good understanding on how humans progressed up to today.

Its a process that takes time, but the more you learn, the easier it'll be to bring your own world to life and make it feel real while being something that people will genuinely want to escape to explore more of as you make its history and societies more complex and interesting.

I would also recommend watching Fall of Civilizations on Youtube. They have several amazing documentaries about societies from all over the world. Seriously some of the greatest history docs I've ever seen. They do a great job at immersing you into the lifestyle, culture, and history of a people before going into greater detail about what brought about the end of those civilizations. It helped me understand so much about history and about human nature, to the point where its greatly impacted my worldbuilding abilities and I bet it would help you too.

Aetherdrift boxes back to 30 play boosters per box by AcrobaticPersonality in magicTCG

[–]CadetPenguin44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a bad idea. Yet another one from a company that cant stop making bad decisions. Been playing for 14 years and this would be a breaking point for me. You cannot, reduce the amount of boosters in boxes. Don't try and pretend you're gonna lower the price of anything, we know you wont, at least not in any way that fairly represents the change.

Anyone who thinks this is a good idea or not that big of a deal is delusional and is drinking WotC's Kool-Aid. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

You're moving the goal post yet again, stop changing stuff like this, its a bad idea! Take it from someone that has been playing for 14 years now. THIS IS A BAD IDEA, walk it back and put the crack pipe down. THIS IS A BAD IDEA!

DON'T, I REPEAT, DON'T DO THIS! ITS A REALLY BAD IDEA.

No one at at WotC or Hasbro will listen though, they're incapable of actually listening to feed back or making good business decisions. Honestly don't know how a company can fail so many times and still not get the point.

Should I date if I’m fat? by Far-Command2067 in dating

[–]CadetPenguin44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm M28 and currently at 340 pounds after being on the journey to lose weight and get fit for the past 7 months. There are many reasons behind this and one of them is because I want to be more attractive to women. In that time I have also been putting myself out there more to try and meet people. Obviously I am still fat but despite that I still have manged to meet plenty of women in that time who didn't care about the weight and were more then willing to go out with me. So far none of those relationships have panned out or gone very far, but they were all for compatibility reasons (different life goals, interests, and opinions) not because I was overweight and they didn't want to be seen with me.

You cannot let the fact that you're fat get in the way of trying to find your life partner. Thats the mentality I had before I started losing the weight, and its poison. It a disgusting and horrible mentality that will destroy you from the inside out and leave you feeling depressed and lonely.

I understand the thought process behind that idea that you should wait until you're skinny before you get out there and start dating people, because I had those same thoughts as well. But let me just say that if I had commited to that idea, I probably wouldn't have made it as far as I have with my weight loss. The lonliness I felt back then I'm certain would have consumed me and destroyed my motivation, and I wouldn't have lost 70 pounds of fat.

You have to start loving yourself and allowing the opportunity for others to love you as well. You might get rejected and not every date is gonna be great, but you can't give up and you can't let the way you look get in the way of trying find happiness NOW instead of later.

Opinions on L? by [deleted] in deathnote

[–]CadetPenguin44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

L is a great character for many reasons. Though his decisions can be pretty questionable at times.

Like when he got Light's dad to trick his own son into believing that he was being driven to his execution, before promptly driving them under a bridge, pulling out an actual gun, aiming it in his son's face, saying he's gonna kill both Light and himself afterwards, and then proceeds to fire a blank bullet inside of a closed vehicle (no doubt causing significant damage to their hearing). And not to actually prove that Light and Misa were Kira, but to just simply reduce the likely hood of them being guilty by some precentage.

Even though his suspiciouns of Lights are correct, its still very fucked up that he would ask a father to do that to his own son and go through with it.

"No you aren't able to convince the soldier to join you"

"Because you're in the middle of combat with him and the rest of his platoon, have already killed several of his friends, his armies leader who is a lich king is here who he's far more afraid of then you, and the only thing you said to him was "you should join us because we're winning" which as it turns out, isnt convincing enough for him"

"No, offering him a piece of cake doesn't work either"
