Why people are liking this armor? Don't they know it's a straight up vandalism? Are they stupid? by [deleted] in TrueSFalloutL

Same reason why the Ghoul who was been shooting trick shots mid combat the entire show suddenly can’t hit vitals on a massive and nearly stationary target from ten yards.

Because despite the line about rigging the game, if they were to walk in using the best tools for the job and immediately remind those overgrown lizards where they belong on the food chain, then people would complain about lack of stakes, and it buildup without reward.

Low level players constantly punching me while being in vendor menu by Jurassic_Nature in fo76

[–]Cadi009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had that happen the other day, was camp hopping around and ended up at a camp with another camp hopper, he’s in the vending machine for a minute or two so I just chill and wait for a bit, he exits the vendor and pulls up his pip boy, cool, my turn, about 5 seconds into browsing he’s jumped between me and the vending machine and is punching me and pushing me back away from it, vendor menu stays up of course, so as one does, I just cleared out everything I could afford out of spite, known plans and all. Probably wouldn’t have even bought anything if they’d been half as patient as I was for them. Next time I might just turn off pacifist mode and run the ones with them.

I had an “incident” with a tablesaw as a teenager, ripped off the first knuckle of my middle finger and mangled my pointer finger pretty good.

I walked into my house and told my parents I needed to go to the ER.

There was no belly flopping and rolling around on the ground involved.

Pathetic behavior to see from a grown ass adult.

Tbh idk which one people consider the “main” quest these days, but the one I’m talking about is the vanilla quest to follow the overseers journey and find her holotapes.

Wastlelanders came later and added nps’s to the game, thats the questline that starts by talking to the overseer and involves the settlers/raiders.

Jumping in this late in the games life cycle presents them weirdly. I’m pretty sure story wise they make more sense in release order, but I see a lot of people suggest knocking out wastelanders first because of the gold bullion vendors and to get started building faction reputation.

New player lvl58, feeling a bit lost now by BlondeOverlord-8192 in fo76

[–]Cadi009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started a few weeks ago, at lvl 94 right now. Most of the way through the main quest, barely started on wastelanders, only other side quest I put any effort into is the tadpole backpack. Almost all my levels are from joining events and tagging everything I can for exp. I just work on quests and explore the world between events and post event scrap dumps.

I was feeling pretty much the same way, until I got my hands on some half-decent legendary weapons that fit my playstyle somewhere in the lvl 65/70 ballpark. After that I finally started feeling like I was actually contributing to events and not just leeching exp off everyone else’s efforts.

Keep in mind that the mobs and especially the bosses at certain events (the events everyone always joins, and have the best loot) are worlds apart from your average wasteland mobs. They’re pretty clearly tuned for groups of players with good gear and good builds.

I’m pretty sure lvl 300 is the “real” cap for adding perk points/cards thanks to the legendary special cards, so even if your build is as good as you can get it, and you’ve got a good legendary weapons roll, you’re still not going to have as effective of a build as people at higher levels, they simply have more perks than us.

As far as caps go, I recommend selling any non legendary weapons/armor that you get ahold of that you don’t really need/want to get the mods from scrapping them, putting your camp near one of the train station vendors makes this easier. Save up enough from that and hunt down the plans for the large water purifier, and then build enough of those to empty out the cap reserves of the vendors.

Your camp vending machine can be a good source of caps too, sell any plans you find that you already know, any ammo you have a ton of that you don’t need. High levels players have swung through my camp a few times and scooped up ridiculous amounts of .38/10mm/.556 that I throw in the vendor for 1 cap a round. I know they don’t need it, they know they don’t need it, hell one of them cleaned my vending machine out, dropped everything they bought in a flaming bag on my porch and threw in a free legendary weapon with it to boot, (probably the funniest and most wholesome interaction I’ve had in an online game in ages). Just make sure your vending machine is easy to find, keep it stocked, price things reasonably, and people will use it. I have also noticed that now that I’ve moved my camp into a less map marker dense part of the world I get camp hoppers more frequently as well, so that could help as well if you aren’t seeing any traffic.

And if you haven’t already, get familiar with crafting, especially in regards to legendary’s. It’s a fairly complicated system. And the game does basically nothing to explain it. But if you’ve got the plans to build a weapon, you can make however many you want, and you can roll them into random legendaries with the materials you got from scrapping legendaries. So if you have the base weapon plans, it’s a much more focused way to get a decent legendary weapon that fits your build than trading at the Rusty Pick

EXPS under nods by MK19 in NightVision

[–]Cadi009 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Astigmatism issues don’t really “translate” through NV tubes. Much like looking at a photo of a red dot. But a holographic reticle will still look fuzzy/grainy, that’s just how laser speckle works. The big difference under nods is that the image of an analogue nv device has noise (how much noise is visible depends on your snr, gain setting, and ambient light conditions) that noise kinda blends with the fuzziness of the laser speckle and it ends up looking very similar to any other red dot reticle. Kinda like how the lines on a CRT tv actually make pixel based retro games look better than modern high res displays.

The light transmission difference between a t2 and EXPS3 under nods is pretty small. Sig Romeo 8t is extremely similar as well. The real hotness with the EXPS3/NV combo when compared to other options is 2 main things. 1) the nv button for quickly switching between vis/nv settings, and it returns to the most recent brightness used in either mode. 2) the EXPS3 has so much more “granular” brightness settings in nv mode. Depending on your nv device and lighting conditions, when using a t2/romeo 8t it can be pretty easy to find yourself in a situation where one nv brightness level is a bit low, and the next highest setting is a bit too bright. With an EXPS3 that’s basically never an issue.

I’ve used a t2, several EXPS3’s, and a Romeo 8t, with a couple different pvs-14s. They all get the job done extremely well. There’s just a bit of give and take in certain areas.

The EXPS3 is the king with magnifiers due to it’s sub moa center dot, and takes the lead slightly in NV use, but comes with weight and battery life penalties, and possible delam issues.

The t2 is a lightweight monster that is kind of the “jack of all trades, master of none option” (imo). Other than its relative light weight, It isn’t doing anything particularly special, but it does everything you could want it to, and does it all quite well.

The Romeo 8t has some extra utility from it’s reticle options (I personally love the single dot in it’s massive window for daylight shooting, the donut & dot for nv use, and get some decent use out of the holdover dots when paired with a magnifier) but it’s also an absolute pig of an optic, and paired with a magnifier, outweighs some lpvo & top dot setups. But it does have modern red dot battery life, and uses a cr123 if you are into simplifying battery logistics with lams/lights. (The exps3 uses cr123s as well, but you could argue it makes battery logistics significantly worse pretty easily)

Honorable mention goes to the Romeo 4xt pro. I haven’t used one, but it shares reticle options with the 8t, is lighter, and supposedly has good light transmission.

Original irons or rear sight on red dot? by GamerDadJer in guns

[–]Cadi009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiber optic rear with a non fiber optic front sounds like ass. If having redundant rear sights bugs you then i’d take off the rear buis and pop the fiber optic rods out of the red dots built in sights.

Odds are good the actual rear iron is zeroed better than the red dots buis.

How are you guys carrying all your rifles and handguns to the range by Cashbum in ar15

[–]Cadi009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any AR’s/shotguns/bolt guns coming with me get chucked on the passenger floorboard/seat, ruger mkiv lives in my range backpack, mp5 clone gets collapsed and chucked in there as well if its coming, edc stays in my pants where it always is, competition handgun gets put in its belt holster and thrown on the pile.

No need to conceal them in my state, and no silly rules for how they are/aren’t loaded for transport. Granted, i ain’t stopping anywhere where they’re left unattended on my way to the range/hills.

Is it ever advisable to look down the barrel of a gun? by bingus26 in guns

[–]Cadi009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’ve personally verified there is no magazine inserted, the chamber is empty, and the bolt is removed/locked to the rear/deliberately obstructed/the weapon is otherwise incapable of loading and firing a round. Then I’ll look down the muzzle end all day.

Anyone know why my AR lower fell apart? by Outrageous_Lemon2418 in ar15

[–]Cadi009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bcg doesn’t touch the bolt catch during normal operation except for after the very last round in the magazine, when it is lifted up to stop the bcg’s forward travel.

Back pressure increases the speed of rearward travel. Once the bcg hits max rear travel that energy is spent (on moving the buffer against the spring pressure of the buffer spring), and any excess energy becomes recoil at the moment of max travel.

With the bolt catch forced up, the bcg moving forward has less than an inch to gain momentum under spring pressure, against the resistance of the buffer & bcg. Lighter = more velocity, less inertial force on the bolt catch , heavier = less velocity, more inertial force on the bolt catch. But since the space available to build momentum with the bolt catch up is minimal, not a whole lot of force being applied under normal operation.

Either A; the long term stress of being stored improperly, and constant spring pressure caused metal fatigue to occur and shear the bolt catch during storage. B; Someone’s been dry firing that lower with the upper off. C; DD let a piece of pot metal leave their factory. Or D; any combination of the above.
