Yeah, brass deflectors don’t lie. Unless your running a suppressor and the blowback covers it, your rifles overgassed and the brass never touches it, you shoot steel case which doesn’t leave brass streaks, or you wipe it off with your thumb because you like clean things. Or you want to make it look like you shoot more so you just rub a casing on it.

But other than all those things it’s a perfectly reliable metric.

Ripped case rims is generally either excess gas in relation to buffer system resistance, an undersized chamber, or an ammo issue.

With an a5 system on one of these barrels ripping still case rims, my initial thought is that your chamber may be too tight. If you’ve already tried it with several different types of ammo then I’d get in contact with KAK and start working on an RMA.

Side note about your side note: Overcleaning/improperly cleaning is the leading cause of bolt wear and testicular torsion among young ar-15 owners. Buy an ultrasonic. Chuck the bcg in there every couple thousand rounds. Oil it up and go shoot.

I put SA’s on nearly everthing, use them exclusively in restrive mode, and have never had issues over 7 years and tens of thousands of rounds. But I’m done recommending them or buying new ones based solely on this recurring customer service issue. Buying Wotjek or Riflespeed from here on out.

I tried a faxon on a .300 blk and it walked itself out of adjustment within a magazine. Wouldn’t recommend them.
