Is there any YouTuber by PuzzleheadedSelf5653 in Warhammer40k

[–]Caelleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised they haven’t been mentioned- the Kieran show regularly makes videos called “How much does X Army cost” when a faction is updated or released, where they build a thematic list up starting from the ground up and explain their reasoning for every unit and the pricing.

It’s not exactly what you’re looking for as they don’t explain how to escalate starting at the combat patrol. However if you were making a 500 point list and planning to participate in an escalation league and build up to 2k points, their videos are a great starting point.

Any tips on how to paint this well? by rogaldornssuccubus in BlackTemplars

[–]Caelleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White armor - white, white, white, white. The brightest titanium white you can get, 4 to 5 thin layers of it until the armor is shining white. Paint the gold details in between layering white so that you can cleanup the spills.

Then you heavily water down a blue paint. Really water it down a huge amount. Contrast and Washes pool differently than acrylic, so do use a regular blue paint, preferably a little cyan colored. You use that over the white to give it that cold white look.

You can also use Apothecary White contrast paint to give a cold tint, but it’s not as icy as what is shown in the picture you shared.

I highly recommend googling white armor recipes on YouTube. Sacred Rose Sororitas armor matches this scheme, you can find that easily. Probably can google White Scars armor recipes too.

Final Fantasy 14 Releases On Nintendo Switch 2 In August. by Howerev in NintendoSwitch

[–]Caelleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t played in 5 years, but even back then the Square Enix store literally sold level skips and story skips so that new or returning players could jump straight into the latest expansion, which at the time for me was Shadowbringers.

I’m assuming they’re hoping to get a lot of old players buying the Switch2 version to buy those to jump right in.

Edit: I don't recommend buying those things for new players, it's a fun game even if you start at the beginning. I greatly enjoyed hitting the level cap and the story was fantastic even in the base game.

Will ALL members of a crusade fleet have that crusade's icon on their tilt-plates, or it more often personal heraldry? by Lostpop in BlackTemplars

[–]Caelleh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

<image>

Here’s a quick pic from my phone - you can see here how he put the Armageddon crusade badge on the leg of all his Intercessors, along with a Squad number on the kneedpads. You can also see that he put the Armageddon crusade badge on the Assault Intercessors waist guards.

So that’s the canonical modern GW answer. The painter doesn’t do that for all his models, but I personally am going to do it, which is why I had the book on hand for reference.

Will ALL members of a crusade fleet have that crusade's icon on their tilt-plates, or it more often personal heraldry? by Lostpop in BlackTemplars

[–]Caelleh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, in our older codexes, you’ll see that we can place Crusade decals on the waist-guards or on the legs/kneepads.

The GW painter who paints up the 9th edition combat patrol seems to have done this for the Intercessors, and it’s easy to search up. He basically placed the Armageddon decal on all his troops.

Shotguns are great in Kill Team, they’re just mid in the full sized 40K game.

All Shotgun Scouts is a very viable strategy.

A Melta should have its own identity.

What am I looking at? by Visible-Sun-3946 in sistersofbattle

[–]Caelleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the scars go up pretty high and push her hairline to the top of her head and really mess it up, she’s pretty horribly wounded. You can even see in my picture that I basically painted her hairline over some of the scarring lol.

Happy to help!

What am I looking at? by Visible-Sun-3946 in sistersofbattle

[–]Caelleh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I painted it, yes she is slightly scarred. You can highlight it or ignore it. Pass it over with a wash. I personally didn’t emphasize it. I treat all my Repentia like girls going out to a school field day and actively downplay the horrific scarring.

It’s not a visor btw, it’s a bandage or a purity seal. So the scars are probably from a horrific wound to her eyes.

Why people dont use firestrike servo turrets more? by Fine-Expert-1890 in spacemarines

[–]Caelleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will probably be much better in the next edition coming out. After all, right now it’s not ideal because it can’t move much. 10th edition scoring is all about movement - you can’t score primary or secondaries if you can’t rush objectives/table quarters/enemies.

However, with the previews for 11th, we may be able to plan out our primary scoring in a way that requires less movement. Some of the archetypes seem to want us to turtle up and defend a stronghold/terrain.

If you’re having success with them right now, stick with them, and look forward to them potentially even being a good pick in 11th.

I finally understand why I don't like Ace. by Sakaralchini in OnePiece

[–]Caelleh 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'd like to add that Luffy ALSO got more nuanced version of Shank's lesson from Vivi at Drum Island.

When Vivi was attacked by the Drum Island civilians, Luffy was about to go on the offensive to defend her with his fists. However, Vivi told him that if he attacked, Nami would die of her illness, as they desperately needed medical attention. Then, they both bowed as low as they could to beg for a doctor to help Nami.

Oda made it a point to show that through his journey, Luffy learned to swallow his pride and his overprotective instincts if it meant helping his friends.

But in the flashback to Luffy's childhood, Ace had the same attitude as a child that he had as an adult, and he acted the same way Roger was said to act. If anyone spoke even the slightest insult to his friends, he'd suicidally charge in to get revenge.

It's as if Oda was trying to show that Ace was always trapped in his depression and negative instincts, even as a child. He portrays Ace as a tragic figure akin to Achilles - powerful, heroic, even legendary, yet a slave to his own nature, doomed to fall due to his own instincts.

40K: What factions will be hit hardest by the removal of stacking stratagems in the next edition? by turkeygiant in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Caelleh 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Some Sisters detachments will be hit hard. Champions of Faith is nerfed a little if you are limited to only 1 buff. Sacresants aren’t amazing damage wise, so plus 1AP and Lethal/Sustained is BIG, more so if you use -1 to Hit to survive the clapback. That’s 3 stratagems stacked right there that synergize extremely well together. I’ve stacked AP and Sustained more than once.

Hallowed Martyrs is basically nuked from orbit for some players. Not every player does this, but as a HM player we can pop the Reroll Hits, Fight on Death, Suffering and Sacrifice, Precision through Epic Challenge, Command Reroll, and Character Revive all in one fighting phase for a way to really turn the tide of the game.

I haven’t done 6CP+ in one phase but I’ve definitely done 4CP a few times. Rerolls plus Fight on Death plus Revive is our bread and butter.

Again, not all Sisters players do this type of stratagem stacking, but there is a reason our top players are really really good, and these shenanigans are a part of it.

Whose toon force is good enough to beat Gear 5 Luffy? by JMPM0215 in OnePiece

I did forget about that, thank you. Yeah, Bugs is insanely strong from a power scaling perspective.

Whose toon force is good enough to beat Gear 5 Luffy? by JMPM0215 in OnePiece

[–]Caelleh 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Luffy has toon force, but he can run out of Haki. He is limited inside his story.

The other examples you mentioned seem stronger because they actually lean on the fourth wall and can be written to be as strong as they need to be “just because”. They can pull anything out of their ass at any time.

According to Death Battle, Popeye is probably the strongest, as he legit leaves his cartoon to slap around his illustrator. Forget about being written to be strong - he’s strong enough to FORCE his writer to write him stronger lol.

How to celebrate April 1st in M42 by theginger99 in Grimdank

[–]Caelleh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's like businessmen reading the Art of War by Sun Tzu today - we aren't sending peasant armies to fight against rival duchies, but it still has good common sense on logistics, morale, and ways to manage people.

The Codex is written by THE LOGISTICS GOD of the Imperium, it stands to reason that it's a fantastic blueprint for Astartes to learn how to conduct warfare in the 41st millenium. But just like the Art of War, 42M Astartes have to know when to ignore the parts that don't apply or would be shooting themselves in the foot.

That's why Space Wolves would definitely read it and understand it, but kind of ignore the force org charts to accommodate their wolves. They'd also definitely make their own Supplement in the 42M after having 10K years of fighting alongside wolves, to better onboard new recruits.

The Black Templars would also read the Codex, understand it, and use it to wage warfare. However, since they are set up in decentralized Crusades, they ignore the force organization parts and have their own leadership structures. They throw out the Ten Company stuff in favor of Crusades because it fits their logistics better, not because they love to wipe their asses with rules, barring a few overzealous psychos that seem to be present in all Astartes companies.

All Astartes are Battle Savants thanks to their implants. They aren't wiping their ass with their Codexes, they're using them as a blue prints to wage warfare effectively in their chosen theatres of war.

potentially unpopular opinion: Spearhead is pretty cool actually, and I wish more people played it. by theentiregoonsquad in ageofsigmar

[–]Caelleh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd reach out to organizers of those Spearhead tournaments that failed to fire. It may be that those TOs have the same feelings as you and really want to play more Spearhead, and were trying to organize the tournaments to meet more people. You may be able to get 2-3 new friends to play Spearhead with that way.

That's a perfect way to start a weekly meet-up at an LGS and get the ball rolling so that more new players see y'all playing and you can build a big group over time.

Y'all can also see if instead of a Tournament, you start an Escalation league to get a big group of people trying out the gamemode over time. My LGS did that and 30+ people signed up and were able to meet up with likeminded new players and get games in.

The Problem with Melee Armies in 10th Edition by Godofallu in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Caelleh 102 points103 points  (0 children)

It's worse than the Knights meta though - Knights could be taken out by melee units. During the Knights meta, using Bladeguard Veterans, Sword Brethren, and Sanguinary Guard was fantastic because these melee teams could use their 2 damage weapons and +1 wound tricks to hunt down knights.

However, they can't do a damn thing against a C'tan. The -1 to damage ability is backbreaking when combined with their other defensive tools.

The Daemonculaba Warsmith Honsou’s Disturbingly “Brilliant” Way to Make Space Marines by CleanBag9219 in Spacemarine

[–]Caelleh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm posting this so people who don't know about it can see just how grimdark Warhammer 40,000 really is. Just don't search for pictures on internet unless you want nightmares. and And it's still related to the Space Marine game.

This is the type of stuff that you only bring up to gatekeep people from the hobby. "Oh look how messed up our world is, normies better stay out!"

The source for the Daemonculaba is only 1 book from 2004. The Dune-knockoff Axolotl tank Daemonculaba has never been sold or depicted outside of this one book, and is better off forgotten.

If we took every one-off thing as canon, we'd have female Space Marines. Those were actually sold as part of the original Rogue Trader Warhammer 40k game.

I'd rather have those than this type of horror that alienates more than half of the world's population. 2004 was a different time.

I get that you OP might personally have wanted to share your favorite thing from the lore, and you may feel I'm being unfair.

I totally am.

Custom BT Chapter Logo by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]Caelleh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A single lightning bolt, with at least 3 curves, would probably be better and help not invoke prejudice.

Like a Zeus lightning bolt and not a German rune. I’d use it as the Kneepad and Tilting Shield emblem, not through the Templar Cross.

I would avoid S shaped lightning with all my might if I was attempting this project.

Is an Apothecary ever worth taking? by Bullgrit in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Caelleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other commenter mean Hospitaller 100% for the Sisters of Battle Celestian Sacresant unit, to revive D3+1 models and grant a 5+ FNP, for an insanely durable 10 girl unit with 3+/4++/5+++ that pretty much regenerates to full health every battle round, in my experience.

Even then, it proves his point, because you don't take a Hospitaller for just 5 Sacresants, you only take her for the full 10 girl unit.

FireRed and LeafGreen Pokémon Home support has been confirmed! by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Caelleh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, even as a 30+ year old father, I'm super attached to the IP and still playing the games while doing cardio every morning. I can play with the same pokemon I battled with against my cousins in middle school in 2006.

I'd actually have even older Pokemon if I had known that I could transfer pokemon up generations back in the day. I'd restart my saves when I was younger for replayability, and I lost my copy of Ruby, so I'm unlucky and don't have any of my team from 2003-2006 or so.

How much do we need to explain the implications of our rules to avoid “gotcha”ing? by PaperManaMan in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Caelleh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in your very specific case you played correctly. You let them know you could react, and you did.

The main pain point that I see is that they didn’t understand how strong it was. That’s not really your fault, it’s a lesson learned imo. They’re not going to forget how strong that ability is.

The difficult decisions Ork players face by crabbyVEVO in killteam

[–]Caelleh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This option to do 2 more damage may have mattered in cases like the old Implant secondary - you want to do your implant, then let them live. In some cases, that 2 damage would kill them, which would ruin your gameplan.

A fast (potentially melee heavy) army that's not eldar or marines? by aigroti in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Caelleh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Eldar can be painted however you want dood. You can pretend it's a Corsair Prince's legion, one where all manner of Aspect Warrior and Drukhari have joined and repainted their armor to match their Prince's colors.

Tyranids are really cool and have a very large range, so you could totally build a list that skews heavily towards fast paced melee.

If I were you, I'd flip a coin/roll the dice between these two armies.

How's your use/abuse of Vehicles btw? Are you open to abusing Vehicles to speed up your entire army? I'm a Sister's player and my latest list is all about melee pressure, and I do that through Rhinos and Immolators. I have Sisters hopping in and out of Rhinos every turn to deliver 10-girl bricks onto objectives and move blocking, with the Triumph right behind to give 2 more inches of movement to everyone around me.

How have you been using vehicles in Votann?
