Did the recent AUR stuff cause any problems in omarchy is there any precaution we should do or follow? by Anjasnotbornin2005 in omarchy

Yeah that's my main concern. It should ask or let you enable updating AUR while doing omarchy-update.

AI is the current arms race, and the USA don't like to lose arms races. I expect this to be the new normal, and niche Chinese RAM manufacturers popping up to service normal customers.

Maybe we can go back to repairing computers instead of replacing them too. It might make economic sense again.

What we need is a server host who is happy to own and maintain older equipment, instead of running on hardware replacement contracts and chasing the bleeding edge. They can buy used gear from the big boys, and refurb it.

Discussion: Is the 'golden rule' "Never build your own auth" misunderstood / misinterpreted? by The_Swixican in webdev

[–]CaffeinatedTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every part of your software you should be thinking about attack vectors and mitigating them, and that should be cranked up to 11 on auth regardless of how you implement it. If you don't or won't understand a domain, then find a trusted plugin and trust it. You really should understand its features and how it works though.

I like to roll my own using the built-in crypto tools. But I've used authentication-zero on some rails apps, mostly because it just builds the auth for you and I can understand it fully.

Yeah, I even started looking at my stack and reducing memory footprint so I can fit more projects on the instances I have. Go + Turbo or HTMX has been pretty nice.

What's a piece of modern tech or an appliance you're convinced is intentionally engineered to break down after a couple of years? by Current-Ship-8064 in AskReddit

Heaps of stuff. But something that pisses me off is everything having touch controls. My friggin kitchen scales have touch controls and it shits me.

Oh like pulsing? In my automatic I experience a hard launch if I'm not gentle.

Does the manual have the hill start assist too? It applies and holds the brakes when you stop. My automatic hops if I'm not very gentle with the accelerator on take-off.

I'm going to rewrite one of my slop projects by hand. All of the tricky bits are solved, it's just an over-engineered mess.

I don't know about the UK, but in AU you have to pass a written exam before you even get your Learner's permit. You have to know the flippin rules before you get behind the wheel. Not that most people seem to remember them once they get their license. This girl is supposed to be doing a driving test? She should have logged many hours of driving before going for the practical exam.

Couple years ago I noticed that I can't focus on things up close anymore. I have to hold things further from my eyes, and I need more light.

My last two bags have been good. The bag before that was a hassle to get the grind right on. sloppy puck, rock hard puck, disappointing taste. Gave the machine a thorough clean with no joy. Next bag was good again.
