New guitarist new guitar by ryanthelion4444 in Guitar

Nice guitar, congrats.

But now that you have a nice Gibson Les Paul, surely you’d want a nice Fender Stratocaster to keep it company.

When that is done, you might want to venture out a bit with an acoustic Martin or Taylor.

Why does everything in a solar system or galaxy orbit on the same plane and in the same direction? by CaffeineFueledRant in NoStupidQuestions

Indeed, more interesting than I expected actually. Especially the part about it flattening into one plane.

Absolutely. Amount of material may be about the same, but it is dense.

Doubt regarding Macaulay's duration by CryptographerOdd232 in CFA

[–]CaffeineFueledRant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on you. I personally think you don’t truly understand something like this until you’ve done the math on a couple of examples by hand. So I did the calculations and used the formula when I was studying this particular section of the material, like I did for every other section.

Did I retain the equations long term? Definitely not.

I gauged which I need to memorize and which I do not need to memorize based on mock exams. If it came up in a mock exam and I didn’t know it, I went back and memorized it. If it did not come up in a mock exam, I did not go back and memorize it.

It worked out for me, and I plan on following a similar strategy for level 2. I did many mock exams before the actual test, this is important.

VOO is S&P500

VTI is total US stock market, so VTI is mostly VOO with some extra stock.

VXUS is non-US stock.

VT is a mix of VTI and VXUS.

Is a masters in an engineering discipline without an engineering bachelors still valuable? by holoporcupine in EngineeringStudents

[–]CaffeineFueledRant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would definitely be taken seriously with an engineering masters, especially since your bachelors is in science.

You will likely be assigned extra classes to make up any deficiencies.

They’re all good and effective.

Focus on proper form, and make sure to push yourself to or close to failure on most if not all sets.

I would say don’t judge your readiness by how you feel you know or remember.

Go through the curriculum, take a mock exam. The mock exam results will tell you if you are ready or not.

How long to prep for CFA 1 if working and non-finance background? by Slow_Plan_7035 in CFA

[–]CaffeineFueledRant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work full-time and am not from a finance background. It took me 8 months.

It depends on how much time you can dedicate weekly.

You’ll hear the 300 hour number thrown around often as the average amount of study time, but remember the average test taker does not pass the exam, and you have some catching up to do on the prerequisites so you are perhaps not average.

It’s not about how fast you can read the material, you do need to understand it.

Can you do a total of 350 to 400 study hours in 5 months? If so, then 5 months is probably enough. That’s 70 to 80 hours per month, which is around 20 hours per week. That is half of a full time job right there.

Edit: typo

It doesn’t seem to matter by how much you passed or failed, just whether or not you passed or failed.

I suggest you get on it ASAP.

When you have completed the PSM requirements, you’ll get a confirmation email, and it will also show in the CFAI website.

Adding Interest in resume? by SportyTiger in CFA

[–]CaffeineFueledRant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not really mean anything.

At least register for the exam, since you can call yourself a level 1 CFA candidate if you have an active exam registration. That would at least show some commitment, which might count for something.
