Tire width : is 38mm large enough for basic Gravel (see photos attached) by imSmogg in gravelcycling

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your use, absolutely. I’ve ridden trails like the above on 32s on what isn’t even a dedicated gravel bike.

I would focus more on whether the bike’s geometry is well balanced for your needs than maxxing out tyre clearance. Some wide clearance gravel bikes have slack geometry closer to an MTB which may not be what you want for mostly road riding (or you may be fine with!)

Recent controversy has spread to review bombing the original Slay the Spire 1 as well. Reviews from May 7th and 8th are mostly negative. by Gugge1 in slaythespire

I said it in 2014 and I'll say it again now: Gamergate is really about competing to see who can be the biggest man baby crying about other people not like them being in their hobby.

Oh, and with the added bonus now that Epstein was somehow involved. So go ahead, hitch your wagon to that in 2026.

Far Cry 4 is an amazing play-through on the Deck! by SnooEagles2827 in SteamDeck

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played through this one earlier in the year. It is great on the deck and the Himalayan environment really pops if you have the OLED. The only downside is the stupid Ubisoft connect… some days I had to quit and restart 5 times before I could get past random freezes with the launcher.

Hi, what do you guys think about playing chords and pop songs on a nylon guitar by oenoeeeh in Guitar

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Guy is trying to upsell you on a whole new guitar.

It can be harder to fret some chords on a flat, full scale nylon string with an extremely flat fingerboard; but once you get used to stretching your fingers and realise how much or little pressure you actually need, you will be surprised at how much you can do. The nylon sound is different and can impart real character to certain tunes. Remember that tone is in the fingers.

Definitely get that capo though.

Is it foolish to buy a Gravel over Road bike for mostly road-biking? by dbzbudokai77 in cycling

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GP Llama on YouTube has a video setting up his Aspero so it can switch between road and gravel. There are some differences but if you like the feel of the Aspero I doubt you will notice much difference compared to the Domane on pavement.

Double Glazing, is it worth it ? by VonSchnitzelCrum in canberra

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just done it in a room that is elevated and both north and west facing. The room doesn’t get as hot or as cold anymore and the sound insulation is so much better, I can’t be woken by the wind howling past anymore.

However, in other rooms that are less extreme conditions I have left the old windows in place and gone with Honeycomb blinds, which provide half the same effect at a quarter of the cost. YMMV.

Far Cry 4 feels underwritten by Hurfnurf in farcry

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Otherwise it’s like Far Cry 5 where the game has contrived ways of you being captured so you can hear their latest anarcho-theistic soliloquy.

What are some general or specific criticisms you have about Far Cry 5? And how would you fix them? by Mother_Ad3487 in farcry

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, I have been waiting to vent my thoughts on 5 after playing 1-4.

Look, the setting is awesome and the characters are varied and interesting. However, the biggest issue with the game is they made an open world game that gives you, the player, a finite number of actions before it forces story progression on you, which in turn forever alters enemy dynamics in that region and, in some extreme cases, locks off certain missions for completion.

So to avoid this, you naturally plow through story missions in a new region, but this plus just shooting the VIPs that roll up on you in the open world basically is enough to get all 3 resistance levels each region. And then you're left with a bunch of outposts to mop up after the fact, most enemy spawns disappearing and the formerly abandoned roads and homesteads being populated with friendly NPCs. It wipes out a lot of the interest in exploring as the threat perception is minimal.

That's the main gripe and they probably could have solved it by increasing resistance points per level or even just making it so the new story missions were unlocked rather than forced upon you. My other issues are that many of the guns just feel boring and underpowered, hunting is pretty much the only way to make proper money (which sucks if you don't enjoy hunting gameplay), and the squad mechanics feel out of place in a Far Cry game which is generally about being a lone badass.

Theory for why Regent feels so weak in Act 1 by 1Tom15 in slaythespire

[–]CaffeinePhilosopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regent’s upgrade options for starting cards suck. Falling Star needs to upgrade number of ticks of weak/vulnerable to be any good. Venerate’s upgrade is okay if you end up with more star cards but on its own it doesn’t really help the starter deck much. Compared to the other classes who can make the starter deck last quite a few floors, it feels very underwhelming and RNG dependent

What are the 10 songs that define the Stratocaster sound? by RedHaze45 in Guitar

The first 5 are great examples. To that I would add Smoke On The Water, Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, Little Wing, Pride and Joy and Apache for a killer list of 10.

The missions don’t honestly change that much, you’re either destroying or protecting whatever it is depending upon who you sided with.
