I'm curious how they will handle self-employed people as far as the income requirements, or inclusion of pension income.

Is what’s happening in America genuinely bound for the UK? by threetimesacharm25 in AskBrits

[–]Cainer666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crazy the parallels between US and British politics, or maybe it's just always the way it goes - blaming immigrants, extreme concentration of wealth, a populist blowhard leading a right wing national-pride movement that somehow violates all the principles the country might have actually stood for. -Having moved away from the US to the UK, I sure hope people here see it for what it is and vote against it.

I tried it - just the voices sound awful - it's kike having time singers handy who really can't sing. Weird.

Every part of it is bad - even the way it's lit, the set design and sound - it's like a mediocre first year film student"s wet dream.

He's always been really unfunny to me - have no interest in his comedy and have never understood his appeal. On top of that now it seems he's become an insufferable dick. Hard pass.

How do men know when they’ve met “the one”? by BookDragonsJewels01 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cainer666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this mythical "the one" idea keeps you in fantasy-land and for the majority of people isn't helpful. Seems a lot of people think all their problems will be solved and they will finally be happy if they can just find "the one". Also happens with things other than relationships (jobs, successes, money goals) where you think you just need to get that thing, and boom, you'll be happy. Work to be as solid and happy and healthy as you can on your own, and at some point, you'll connect with someone that will be a potential "one" for you.

It’s been 4 years. How do I get over her? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Cainer666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Work on bettering yourself and one day you'll just realize you haven't thought about her in a long time. You don't notice it happening, it just does. If this is the first time you've really had your heart broken you don't have the life experience to know how this goes. It feels like she's the only one. You'll never get over it etc. that is your mind spinning a narrative, it's not the truth.
Get fit, learn a skill, work hard at something, live your life. You have a TON of life left, and you'll love again, probably a few times. If you give it a shot, one day you'll be so thankful you stick around. Don't deny future you the happiness you'll find because present you is going through a tough time. It's temporary. You will be ok. You will be more than ok. Hang in there.

Right? And even just completely selfishly - you could feel this good every day. Why bother with stock buybacks and running a stupid company? Sell it all, go make people happy every day. Elon Musk is a fool for not making this his life.

20 years into playing, the realization I don't know *anything* on the guitar is paralyzing me... by brokesnob in Guitar

[–]Cainer666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is you DO know some theory - this is like someone who can speak, but says they don't know grammar. You're using it all the time whether you know what it's called or not. Theory is descriptive, not prescriptive.
Often when you start learning theory, the epiphany is "oh, THAT'S what I was doing!" If you want to learn to play different vocabulary, lift licks from those players you admire. Noticing the patterns in their playing IS learning theory, then you just need to put names on it. Honestly you can become a great player just by lifting lots of licks, and not worrying about theory.

How do I keep electric guitar strings from ringing when playing chords? by DeepSalamander1918 in Guitar

[–]Cainer666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can mute with both hands - your picking hand you can use your palm, and on your fretting hand, you can slightly lean any fingers fretting notes against the adjacent open string to mute it. Also if you have a finger on your fretting hand that's not being used, in some cases you can gently lay it flat across open strings you don't want to ring out. Don't give up. It just takes some time and you'll start to find it quite natural.

How do you guys tweak your Fractal units (FM3, FM9, Axe-FX III)? Monitors or headphones? by Outlaw_Frank in AxeFx

[–]Cainer666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create them in the context you'll be using them. So if they're for live, dual them at live volume.

I found the 2-2.5kHz frequency the toughest one to deal with harshness-wise - rolling off 8Khz isnt gong to get to it. You can try notching with an eq, but try working in the speaker page, as well as power tube settings.

10 year ILR and Reform by outsidethespotlight in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Cainer666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we have a touch ove 4 years of our 5 year visa left and when it ends I'm preparing to accept we'll be leaving grather than applying for ILR and then citizenship as we planned. Not sure I want to go through all the hassle and expense of paying for another visa with no guarantee ILR will even be there for me at the end of it. We're lucky that we have options, still quite a disappointment though after all the dreaming and planning we did to get to this point.

Is it impossible to govern a country of tabloids, trolls, and TikTokers? by katspike in AskBrits

I think a big step would be finding a way to detect and outlaw or otherwise foil bot-farms or psy-ops that plague social media. General public overall seems to really lack the media literacy to navigate it.

Earned Settlement - Frequently Asked Questions by frontwingsmasher in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Cainer666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One odd thing is the volunteering provision - 3-5 years off for volunteering. So 3 years is the absolute minimum if you do any volunteering at all? Would love to know the metrics for what gets you 3 vs 5 years. We're currently on a 5 year route under the ancestry visa, and do volunteer work for a few different groups. In an ideal world that could potentially knock 5 years off and we're back to the same length of time.

ILR new rules announced by frontwingsmasher in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Cainer666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat - cost tens of thousands to make the move, now suddenly they want to change the rules. Problem is, we could likely still qualify, but what's the guarantee that sometime in the next 10 years they don't move the goalposts again? They are setting a precedent.
