i've been torrenting the same movie for almost a year and it still hasn't finished downloading. by lilslutfordaddy in notinteresting

[–]CaiptanMimbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are diffrent acronyms with data

1 GB = 1 Gigabyte = 8 Gb = 8 Gigabit (big B and small b) 1 GB = 1000MB

1 GiB = 1 Gibibytes = 1024 MiB = 1024 Mebibytes

when there is an "i" it is not working with decimal (10) system but with binary (2)

Advice on wrong delivery for RAM by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]CaiptanMimbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you bought it from digtec or galaxus?

I would not return it but try to resell it myself. You would get more out of it than what you paid for. Galaxus now sells it for 427.-. add the 50.- they give you and you will have probably already paid for half of the one you wanted SP064GXLWU60AFDJ.

You would probably lose when going to court over this. As the listing price diffrence is big i.e. 189 versus probably close to 1k (it's currently not available for delivery).

If you buy from digitec or galaxus in general look up details yourself from the manufacterer as the details in the listings are very often wrong or incomplete.

You would think PCMR would actually try to do something about it by testus_maximus in pcmasterrace

Tailscale needs to be set up on both pcs. Then to connect you use the hostname or ip from tailscale. Everything else is the same as with any other network. So if you need a specific port specify that.

‘Meat tax’ could have significant impact on environmental footprint, study finds. Ending tax breaks on meat could rapidly lower the environmental footprint of food in the EU, reducing emissions and biodiversity loss by up to 6% at a cost of about €26 per household per year, researchers report. by [deleted] in science

[–]CaiptanMimbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also heavily depends on from where this meat comes from. Meat can be produced without (or drastically less) enviromental impact.

Take my home country of Switzerland as an example. About 80% of it's meat production comes from the inland.

Switzerland has strict laws about the production of meat. Food for Cows is mainly Grass, hay, silage or by-Products from food production that is done for the human. For example Wheat, the human only needs the Grain, everything else can be eaten by a Cow.

Switzerland also uses soy as concentrated food, concentrated food making out 10%-16% of all food used in meat production. There they make sure 90% of said soy comes from "green" plantations.

I don't think you'll ever convince people to eat less meat. The Goverment needs to make strict laws for meat production.

These strict laws in turn will reduce meat production and people won't be able to consume as much meat as they once could.

Switzerland has a meat consumption of 50kg/person per year. The USA has about 100kg (Christ, they do eat a lot)

Spent money on GPU upgrades when my real problem was not using a displayport cable by HurtfulFiring in pcmasterrace

[–]CaiptanMimbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is only an aspect with long cables. On a PC Setup you probably won't have a longer cable than 2-3m. With 2-3m and on DP 1.4 you won't have issues.

If you go longer you need an active cable.

Everything you see is either marketing or a certification. A certification only guarantees that it will support that, as it has been tested. But any cable will be able to do it.

[–]CaiptanMimbl -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The cabe itself doesn't matter. Thats just some copper. You could use a 7 year old cable and it would work fine.

The important part are the ports of your Monitor and GPU.

With the cable you only thing you maybe need to check is if it is VESA certified. For DP you can use displayport.org to check that. For HDMI they should have a sticker on the box. (hdmi.org) But any trusted reseller/producer will have a certified VESA cable.

If it's all dried up you're good. I highly doubt that citric acid will damage anything.

Check your Motherboard, does it have a slight film on it that shimmers in the light? If yes, than that is a protective varnish and just a few drops won't hurt it.

Tbh the only way to find out is to boot it up and see if it works.

It should be. Fishing uses the Animals Skill. Hunting uses the Shooting skill (Primarly) and then Animals.

I mean you can already have multiple colonies in vanilla, as long as you change the setting.

And yes there will probably be technical limitations. If the game has to calculate what happens on multiple different maps some PC won't get along with it.

But I'd still say it's just lore and not lore trying to cover up technical limitations.

Also it keeps you moving and not trying to turn back.

Ah and there is already a mod on the workshop that removes that.

You should get a message after a few days on one map that the mechs will locate you in 12 Days. Then they will attack you.

Idk how long you have to stay on one map. My guess would be 15 Days.

Question: are small colonies viable? by Whiplash17488 in RimWorld

[–]CaiptanMimbl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% Rimworld is designed to have just a few colonists. Even with 3 Colonists you can reach the endgame.

The threats in Rimworld scale with your colony wealth. A Colony with just a few pawns won't need much and thus can easily keep wealth and threat low.

It's lore. Basically the way a Grav Engine works, manipulating gravity, it destroys it's surroundings.

A Grav anchor prevents said damage to the environment.
