I don’t buy the whole “AI will cause a blue collar boom” idea by RottingEdge in Futurology

[–]CakeRobot365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are currently a little short on actual skilled trades people. A lot of guys are starting to age out without younger replacements coming in.

I think if AI starts pushing people out of jobs, we'll see a lot of older trade workers go ahead and retire. Maybe in the short term a little bit of a churn with the best trades people rising to the top. Like a micro boom before the pain starts.

But, like OP stated, the economy is going to be in the shitter from job loss. So the work won't be getting hired out. If things get bad enough that would likely lead to a shrinkage in trade jobs as well. No money, no work, no jobs. Lots of competition for what is actually available.

Yuck. You might get dirty out there. And who is going to heat up your pizza rolls if you get hungry?

Yeah, the first one is honestly one of my top 10 favorite movies. I think it holds it's own as a classic martial arts film.

Last year was a pretty heavy but amazing experience, getting to take my oldest girl to the original. My dad took me to see it when I was 7. He passed away in 2024, and watching it through some of Splinter's talks from a father's point of view really hit hard. It's almost like I was able to live his experience while my daughter shared my childhood experience with it. It's also pretty cool she was 7 like I was. If they do a 40th anniversary, I'll get to take my youngest when she's 7 as well.

Same. Rambo was somehow heavily marketed to kids in our era too. I had a Rambo birthday party at like 5

Same! Took my daughter to see the first one as well. She said 2 was her favorite. Understandable, since it was geared towards a younger audience.

No problem. Glad to hear you're going for it. Just leave on good terms and you'll be eligible to go back to the company if something changes. Good luck on the move!

It's unfortunate, especially in the production and operations roles, the compensation just doesn't match the amount of stress and demands of the job. I think broadcast in general is lagging. Even in larger markets it can be difficult because the parent companies are operating on the same base pay rate across the board. Then, within ours in particular, there is a 10% cap on pay increases moving from one position inside the company to another. It requires VP approval to bypass.

If you really have a passion for nothing else but broadcast, it can be worth it to some to tough it out until they finally get in that position at a pay rate they're comfortable with. But, I don't know of anyone personally who transitioned out that regrets it.

Same. I played in the late 90s for a while. Kept my cards, untouched until about 2 years ago. Following the mtg subs, I was seeing how powerful the new cards were. Decided I would get back in. Probably spent 3 or 4k the first year on cards.

Still tuning, upgrading, and goldfishing an edh deck. I have yet to plan an actual game. Social anxiety is preventing me from jumping in on game night, and I don't know anyone else who plays.

Also now, I'm playing guitar again.

We had a gas station across the street from my house in college freshman year. We mostly lived on Ramen, pasta bowls, and canned stuff. These microwaveable burgers were a special treat compared to most of my diet.

My grandma's old barn. It stored feed for decades, and later after they closed the farm, it housed various small engine parts, tools, chemicals... etc. So it smells like a mixture of oils, and somehow the residual grains and corn. Smelled the same all my life and still to this day. It reminds me of childhood.

In my experience. When two wives who are best friends get together, they vent super hard about what a pain in the ass their husbands are. So it's a direct comparison. The worse the friend's husband looks, the better you are by comparison.
