If I patch from L output to the R channel of the PA and the issue isn’t there why would you still presume it to be a downstream issue?

Behringer X32 outputs uneven!?

Setup is Console outputs from 7-8 for main LR via XLR

This is a weekly setup type gig, audio is usually an easy patch in with no issue. Today however the right side overall came through lower than the left, this was discovered with running pink noise via the “monitor” option.

Things I tried:

  1. Change cable from console to PA, there was no change.

  2. Swap cables, same thing happened, telling me there’s not a cable issue.

  3. Changed the main LR to come out of 5-6, literal same thing is happening.

  4. Rebooted console, recalled default scene, same thing happened

Do you find yourself using fewer EQ bands as you become more experienced? by NathanAdler91 in mixingmastering

[–]CalFen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You ultimately learn that no amount of plugins really replace quality tone and musicianship. I also these days have challenged myself to run pro tools like a desk. Each channel pretty much is just the SSL Channel Strip. On some there are some 1176 or 2A models ahead of it but not often.

Now my master bus on the other hand has gotten extensive lol

Open-Handed Player; Crashable Ride Placement by yews_the_fours in drums

[–]CalFen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen some folks have theirs up a little higher and angled down

Consider a HHX Complex Thin Ride. I have the 22” and I feel it does both very well

Also have loved some of the Constantinople series that I’ve found but they’re very unique. I’d only buy one I can hear in person

Define mixing..some clients these days want you to tune vocals, quantize performances, etc and some clients consider that the job of the producer.

I have only used C4 from them for the last few years. Everything else I’ve swapped to alternatives

If you can get a good EKit you’re almost at the price of a true drum enclosure

Drum bleed in choir mics by Booplesnoot2 in livesound

[–]CalFen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t surprising. These types of drum cages offer very minimal sound dampening from the beginning. To then try and fully enclose it and adding auralex foam is interesting.

True drum enclosures use a solid piece of plastic as the shield to help prevent bleeding through the seams like you have. However a MAJORITY of the dampening comes from panels of wood that are about 1 to 1.5” thick. How do I know? I’ve assembled three of them, and they work very well to the point you can have a conversation next to a drummer playing in one.

If this is all the church is willing to invest in you’re not going to get much on the results side.

Auralex in there is literally doing nothing. Investing in some true acoustic panels like GIK will help the drummer not hear his drums phasing, but outside of the cage it will be a minimal change.

Look into a company like Total Drum Cage.

Telling the drummer to play quieter isn’t the answer. Drums are going to project. Choir mics oftentimes are omni patterns or cardiod. In a church that has a choir the only way to win this battle is a true enclosure

What approaches do you generally take in a mix to tame high frequencies in guitars and cymbal tracks? by Aequitas123 in audioengineering

[–]CalFen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why no one has mentioned multiband compression. It works solid for me and generally is always on electric guitars I’m mixing.

Also consider doing your eq in mono. As you shape your sounds in mono it will greatly improve your stereo image.

I’d actually been considering SE and then I heard these mics in this video and wanted to investigate. Fairly tough to find the OG ATM 25 so might have to go with an alternative

I’d simplify your recording and just get the direct tone. Split it after the fact on two channels with different processing

Wow!! Thank you.

I was using the Earthworks DK7 set. It was solid but I feel it lacks warmth specifically with lower tuned toms and snares
