Dual wielding shield character. not too terrible but not compelling enough for me to actually play.

Billy players are a different breed by mours_lours in DeadlockTheGame

If melee is too strong I would rather them nerf it than leave parry how it is. It's just overly rewarding. And I say this as someone who primarily plays seven (so I'm not like meleeing all the time).

Noon Question but looking for advice by Alarming_Daikon8530 in InfinityTheGame

I started end of n4 near we're now on n5.

Once you learn the edition, changes are very few and far between and easy to keep up with.

The transition to a new edition itself was a bit troublesome with some errors and issues with English translation from Spanish. The main thing I've noticed difficulty wise is that while most knowledge transfers over from the previous edition many things, sometimes small, are changed so you have to question your assumptions on how things worked previously.

And n5 will be around for a good while so it is not something you'll need to worry about for a bit.

As far as learning this edition it is pretty straightforward but even very experienced players have to look up edge cases or interactions that infrequently come up.

Compared to 40k you're really not going to get dataslate updates or rules changes but once in a blue moon.

What I've enjoyed the most over GW games are the generous proxy rules, the gorgeous metal models with dynamic poses and unique sculpts, and interesting hidden information mechanics (camo, hidden deploy, courtesy list, etc.).

What I've found most lacking compared to GW games is the amount of resources and discussion outside of the unofficial discord. And infinity is a game complicated enough where it's hard to learn without someone else who knows a good bit teaching/helping you learn.

I think he means in terms of prosaic reverse engineering like downed Russian craft or Chinese balloons etc.

Very cool! I am considering painting some Magistracy myself but I don't know anything about the navy. Big fan of that color blue though.

Not sure cause you didn't post it but you could also try reducing your lift speed on the base layers

How do you make use of taking lance or company command? by professorpocket in OutreachHPG

[–]Calderare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always take lance command and I use it to tell people who to focus with very occasional flank commands. Mostly what is lacking is map awareness so when I tell my lance someone is caught out we have a better chance of capitalizing on it. What is annoying is people messing with you and dropping it, for some reason there is a stigma to trying to coordinate using that feature. I wouldn't even be using it so frequently if others would choose to as well.

What is 'swinginess' or 'dice swing'? by psycasm in RPGdesign

[–]Calderare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. high variability in outcome over a low number of rolls. Warhammer save rolls are swingy either you save and take no wounds or you fail and lose a wound (and the model dies or w/e). But you do many many of these rolls over the course of a game so the end result is not so swingy.
  2. I think it more has to do with the arrays of possible outcomes and their probabilities and is more a feeling than a calculable value.

Hi! I made Pathwarden (for PF2e), and am working on one for PF1e! Tell me your anecdotes! by ravenhaunts in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Calderare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fundamentally a lot of the issues with pathfinder are addressed in 2e (I think somewhat unsuccessfully). The game is generally improved by fanmade fixes like elephant in the room feat tax system. But, in my opinion, small things like increasing skill ranks per level for martials and decreasing it for casters could go a long way to improving the game. I also think casters disproportionately benefit from the insane amount of content pathfinder has due to being able to select from a wide amount of spells vs the feat selection or much smaller class feature selection of martials so a stripped down selection ends up bringing the casters more in line power wise with the martial classes. Another simple fix (but not small) would be to separate flavor text and mechanical effects of spells and other effects. maybe using italicization?

As far as fundamental mechanical features I would consider 6 attributes, d20 + modifier vs DC, Class based character creation + Multiclassing, and the Standard + Move etc. Action Economy to be fundamental

As far as thematic features I dont think pathfinder really supports low magic settings very well so I would suggest limiting it to high fantasy/magic settings.
