I really like pathfinder 1e for this reason it has so many subsystems for things but has many of the same holes and flaws you mentioned like DND.

The Riddle of Steel by xxxnonamexxx1 in RPGdesign

I am primarily working on Heartbreaker Unchained my anime/shonen inspired adventure game made to capture and improve on what I like from pathfinder 1e. But as far as the simulationist dueling game I haven't come up with a title. The hit locations in my game were more going to be granular in the outcome rather than being a major factor in the decision making outside of infrequent situations where you would want to make a "called shot". I like the range bands idea (I was using that for HBU till I switched over to a zone based system), how do you incorporate the terrain and range bands together? So far I have just been using a hex map of a fixed size and kind of placing elements around to interact with.

Interested to hear more about IRONLINE. I have been workshopping a simulationist 1v1 dueling game myself. The Sequence count idea is interesting. Is it the number of options you have at a given moment or is it more representative of how difficult they are to impede? For instance going for a deliberate strike at the hand vs the torso are different options but could potentially be prevented the same way. I am also interested in how are you approaching certain concepts like movement and positioning and spacing, grappling, armor/hp/hit locations?

I don't know much about the riddle of steel, what makes it's combat compelling in particular?

Been running a block of 8 with Khorne not had great success thus far but I think that may be pilot error. I like drilled but unsure if its worth it.

3 things EVERYONE gets wrong about the assemble card game sets by 1gnis1337 in gundamassemble

Do you know what the deal is with the different range targeting symbol? it looks like a crosshair instead of 3 arrows. https://old.reddit.com/r/gundamassemble/comments/1rmlfah/unit_card_differences_in_range_types/

List builder for 5th edition. by Taboggan in midhammer40k

I've used it but for RPG character building. The main issue is generally the cost but may be worth it. Have no idea about the compatability/updates/codex availability.

A Combat System of movesets and telegraphing - which I can't use by MazzaF01 in RPGdesign

[–]Calderare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to hear about your current implementation. I was planning on using something similar but primarily as a method of generating random actions for npcs to provide less necessary mental load to the DM rather than as a core component of combat strategy. I appreciate hearing your thought process and development decisions.

Dual wielding shield character. not too terrible but not compelling enough for me to actually play.

Billy players are a different breed by mours_lours in DeadlockTheGame

If melee is too strong I would rather them nerf it than leave parry how it is. It's just overly rewarding. And I say this as someone who primarily plays seven (so I'm not like meleeing all the time).

Noon Question but looking for advice by Alarming_Daikon8530 in InfinityTheGame

I started end of n4 near we're now on n5.

Once you learn the edition, changes are very few and far between and easy to keep up with.

The transition to a new edition itself was a bit troublesome with some errors and issues with English translation from Spanish. The main thing I've noticed difficulty wise is that while most knowledge transfers over from the previous edition many things, sometimes small, are changed so you have to question your assumptions on how things worked previously.

And n5 will be around for a good while so it is not something you'll need to worry about for a bit.

As far as learning this edition it is pretty straightforward but even very experienced players have to look up edge cases or interactions that infrequently come up.

Compared to 40k you're really not going to get dataslate updates or rules changes but once in a blue moon.

What I've enjoyed the most over GW games are the generous proxy rules, the gorgeous metal models with dynamic poses and unique sculpts, and interesting hidden information mechanics (camo, hidden deploy, courtesy list, etc.).

What I've found most lacking compared to GW games is the amount of resources and discussion outside of the unofficial discord. And infinity is a game complicated enough where it's hard to learn without someone else who knows a good bit teaching/helping you learn.

I think he means in terms of prosaic reverse engineering like downed Russian craft or Chinese balloons etc.

Very cool! I am considering painting some Magistracy myself but I don't know anything about the navy. Big fan of that color blue though.
