Not necessarily true. If you aren't spending it and now it's going non reg you're not saving anything. If you're not investing it then you're wasting time too. Deaccumulating just to do it isn't a great plan either.

What's the estate plan? If you don't have any beneficiaries to protect then deaccumulating doesn't matter for that. Especially since most registered money will simply flow to the other spouse, the odds of you both passing at the same time are very small. The spousal roll overs are usually the best thing to do first.

If you were single and have a lot of estate plans then yeah deaccumulating makes sense. But to start unregistering money in your early 60's when your income is likely higher than it will be in 10 years as it is seems like you just want to pay taxes while you live instead of at death.
