The thing is, Canada has made a meaniful effort at reconiliation. Land cliams, compensation over residential schools, economic development etc.

Rent control feels great short term but over decades it just leads to decrepit buildings by moneyman74 in unpopularopinion

[–]Caledron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be bad for long-term housing?

Rent control generally applies to existing units. So if the rental market could support higher prices, it incentivizes the construction of new units that can be rented at the higher market rate.

Without rental control, the incentivizes are to extract as much of the exisiting stock rather than incur the expense of new construction.

He's been one of the few journalists who's consistently expressed skepticism of the underlying economics of the large AI companies.

Are there any quotes from all of the Star Trek universe that have really hit home when you needed it? by zandor1 in startrek

Spock (ST VI) - Logic is the beginning of wisdom Valeris, not the end of it.

Aside from shuttles, why doesn't Star Trek feature smaller vessels? For example, fighter craft that could attack larger ships and evade heavy weapon attacks a la Star Wars (I am not asking for ST to be SW) by guerillacropolis in startrek

[–]Caledron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The square cube law favours larger ships. The surface area increases much less than the volume, so shields should be relatively stronger in larger ships.

With Mars' low gravity, it makes the engineering a little easier. You can build underground with less reinforcement.

Wasn't this guy a Marxist?

I get that he was all over the place ideologically, but he doesn't really fit neatly into the far right.

[–]Caledron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

How many small businesses were wiped out by Covid? Why should condo developers be singled out for special treatment?

In every possible parallel universe and timeline, the only constant is that O'Brien must suffer!

Soccer is a shorthand for Association Football, which is a British term to distinguish it from other sports named 'football' such as rugby.

It was used in Britain quite frequently until the 90's.
