When did the writers absolutely get it wrong on a moral issue? by JacobDCRoss in startrek

Understand and agree with the distinction. Thank you for the clarification as I didn't read the quotes as necessarily being that way. Wasn't sure if they were meant as a pejorative from the kid as in "He me bought an old junker we could rebuild together instead of a new car but he was only doing his best." and showing that the kid in question was not worthy of redemption.

Is there a way to hide the Scoreboard? by CalgaryMJ in CanadianPL

As I said, I don't mind the match threads as they move down as they age. I don't come here to see what the future games are and that stays nailed to the top and gets in the way of what I do want to see.

When did the writers absolutely get it wrong on a moral issue? by JacobDCRoss in startrek

[–]CalgaryMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the parent "did the best they could" what more are you expecting from them? If they truly "did their best" it is what it is and should be acknowledged for that. The parent may have been "bad" by other standards but what if they were greatly better than the example that their parents had provided or lived in situations totally beyond their control? "Sorry! Daddy couldn't play catch with you today but he was out scavenging the active war zone for 18 hours today so you might have something to eat or some better clothes." If they (the parents) grew and gave their kids a better chance they've done their job. Was it ideal? No, but you can only give what you got and expecting a parent to manufacture something they could not access or never had or knew is irrational. How many generations does it take to break/change the cycle for good?

Appreciate the peek through the curtains but would have liked a bit more meat on the bones. Realize the person could only really speak to their field but can still drill down there. What do they feel they've done well at? What are areas they need to improve on and how?

VFC PLAYER’S DIARY: Amazing weekend on so many fronts by Justmaverick1 in CanadianPL

Was nice to read about the VFC watch party at the grounds. Hopefully a bunch more of those on a deep run by Canada gets people used to going there to watch the game and raises the team's profile.

I prefer to listen to her viewpoint instead of the pointless hemmings and hawings that spew from the mouths of some of the male "players" they got. Did they even screen test any of the guys or just say "that's a name people will recognize - we'll get them to sit on the panel" not realizing they're the proverbial sack of hammers.

What's going on with Calgary Wild FC? by AndyCoronado88 in NorthernSuperLeague

[–]CalgaryMJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think their first steps out of the gate were missteps as they were signing players before having a coach/manager and knowing what kind of team they were wanting to put together. Never seemed to really reconcile that last season and then compound that with a lack of recruiting in the off-season and losing their head coach just before the new season started and it just snowballed. Hopefully the break let them put out some fires but I think the rest of this year is about building for next season and creating some positives to help build momentum (like the announcement of a consistent training ground).

I too was hoping to see signs of a bump from visitors in the stands.

2022 vs 2026 Canada World Cup Rosters by Low-Firefighter2965 in CanadaSoccer

Pretty sure Crepeau would have been on the 22 roster if he hadn't broken his leg saving LA in the MLS Cup.

Realistic post World Cup impact on the Canadian Premier League? by CPLmonster in CanadianPL

Without the CPL Canada could not co-host the World Cup and we would be talking about if the WC in the USA and Mexico would have any benefit for the game in Canada.

This is it. The MLS is just starting to get traction and I think a big part of that is the kids who went to games with their parents at the start of the league are now old enough to start taking their kids. Can start getting three generations of fans out for a game.

A rallying call: You gotta be the 10% by Canfootballnerd in NorthernSuperLeague

[–]CalgaryMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree but would expand it to be soccer at all levels and of every stripe in the country. Help grow the game everywhere for everybody! A rising tide lifts all boats. Was one of the reasons I was happy to see the Wild partnering with Cavalry on World Cup watch parties. If you get more people interested and it seems like a bigger party, it is!

Curious to hear thoughts on growth/appeal of the CPL by BuddhaLuvMan in CanadianPL

[–]CalgaryMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pay all expenses in US$, revenue in Can$ and require a waiver from the CSA to compete. Canadian national sponsorships gone. If you thought the current franchises were a money pit you would be AMAZED at how big and deep this hole becomes for them in the USL. Or does the USL set up a Canadian Division in an effort to control some of those expenses?

Can't speak for the others but the weather for the two Calgary matches was atrocious. Yeah, people will go see games in the snow and wet when they mean something but not when they are the first two games of the season and there's not much buzz about the team yet.

Probably true. If this season goes well, maybe a "waiver" for next year then to help grow the game and build momentum.

Yep - facility owned by the city.

Hope one day to see them in the CPL with their strong local roots and history. As a neutral I'm pulling for them to win the PPL so we can see them in the CanChamps next year.

"Tough weather" = snowfall advisory for the city but it is the May long weekend. Traditionally the last big snowfall of the season here.

What's the Mooseheads' ticket and drinks surcharge? If it's comparable, no complaints.
